can i get some feedback on some custom enchantment ideas?

these are custom enchantments im planning on making a mod around for my server! its meant to work with a second mod that modifies the enchanting system so that each item has an enchantment power cap, essentially making it so you can only have so many enchantments on a single item. with that change, mutually exclusive enchantments are removed, and curses can increase the cap; adding curses essentially gives you more room to add new enchantments. the actual numbers arent super important lols:p

Melee

- Brutality V: deals the same damage as Smite against all mobs, but also deals magic damage to the player.

- Affliction: Transfers negative status effects you have to enemies you hit (melee)

- Discord III: Applies random status effects to enemies. The higher the level, the longer the effect, and the more likely for it to be negative.

General

- Curse of Atrophy V: opposite of unbreaking.

- Curse of Obliteration IV: As the tool is used, random enchantment levels can get removed (for example, using a Sharpness V sword with Obliteration might randomly decrease the sword’s Sharpness to IV).

- Soulbound: Item is preserved in inventory upon death

Tool

- Frenzy III: both mining speed and attack speed quicken as the tool’s durability lowers (tools and melee).

- Curse of Dual Wielding: requires melee weapons and tools to be held without anything else in the offhand.

- Prospecting III: A rare chance to get nuggets and emerals when mining regular stone and deepslate.

- Momentum III: Speeds up mining as you continuously mine the same block, resets when you mine a different block

Armor

- Adrenaline III: when you take damage for the first time after not being damaged for 5 minutes, you get temporary buffs such as Resistance and Absorption (armor)

- Curse of Burdening IV: slows down the player when armor is equipped.

- Bounding II: Increases jump height (boots)

- Equestrian III: Increases horse speed

Other

- Hurricane III: Summons wind bursts where Tridents are thrown

- Parachute: Grants slow falling upon Elytra breaking

- Velocity III: Increases the speed of arrows show by a crossbow.

who's your dream unlikely jltg guest? not impossible, just unlikely

for me its got to be annie rauwerda (depthsofwikipedia). shes hilarious and seems like a great fit personality wise, and has actually been mentioned on the show before (one of the women named in the "name 100 women" section of schengen showdown!). i doubt she'd ever be on though, since shes not a long-form video creator.

what about you?

My theory on how nerfing the Elytra and buffing minecarts could benefit Minecraft servers

To preface, I don't think this is something that vanilla should necessarily change. This is something I want to change for *my personal server*. Please still give your feedback!!!

Something I've had an issue with in the past on servers is that people tend to like spreading out and building bases far apart. This leads to less collaboration, as players are less likely to naturally build together due to increased distance; players have to actively go out of their way to collaborate. I really want to naturally encourage this, and I believe changing the transportation meta could fix this.

Thesis: Increasing friction in point-to-point transportation will encourage players to live closer to one another and build infrastructure to overcome that friction; players will also naturally build near infrastructure, making a network; when players are physically more restricted, spontaneous collaboration is more likely, making servers more lively.

I think most forms of transportation are already decently balanced (such as horses, boats, and walking), but Elytra and minecarts stand out as being extremely unbalanced. Elytras are cheap to use, fast, point-to-point, and ignore local geography; minecarts are expensive to build, very restrictive, and extremely slow.

The way I'm planning on buffing minecarts is by making them travel faster when on rails on certain blocks. That way the existing slow minecart speed is still usable for redstone contraptions, but high-speed rail can exist to fill the niche of extremely fast predetermined routes. I want minecarts to be faster than ice boats as ice boats are more maneuverable since the player is directly controlling them (maybe ~100 b/s?).

I think I want to nerf the Elytra by making rockets more expensive. I know most of my friends would be disappointed if I drastically nerfed the Elytra, so what I think I'm gonna do is use Green_Jab's idea of making rocket boosting not work unless you craft custom Dragon fireworks using Dragon's Breath. That makes Elytra travel vastly more expensive to use while not mechanically changing anything, keeping the fun while encouraging players to use other forms of transportation more regularly that might be cheaper. It might also encourage players to build rocketless Elytra infrastructure such as launchers, which would fulfill my goal of having players build infrastructure. Dragon rockets could make the Elytra more useful for exploration than for commutes.

What do you think?

Rocketless long-distance Elytra flight concept!

For a server I want to make I want to rebalance transport to make it more varied and to encourage players to build infrastructure for transport. Because of this, I want to heavily nerf rocket boosting, but I don't actually want to nerf the Elytra itself. This is one of my ideas for rocketless Elytra infrastructure, with the niche being very long-distance journeys that don't warrant building high-speed rail. I can't see it being all that useful in vanilla (since it costs a ton of Wind Charges) but I thought it was a fun concept!

chorus fruits always teleport you to the ground, but they don't affect your vertical velocity!

i noticed this when playing around with my wind charge elytra launcher thingy. i cant think of any uses for this LOL

A little wind charge player cannon I made!

I'm planning on making a server where rocket boosting is significantly more expensive (requires Dragon's Breath), but you can still glide with the Elytra! So I wanted to make a little wind charge cannon as an alternative to firework boosting (as a side note the goal of removing rocket boosting is to encourage players to build infrastructure, including Elytra infrastructure). 64 wind charges can get you to ~2200 blocks! Also, because of how wind charges work, you take zero fall damage

I didn’t design the wind charge stasis mechanism; I found it online, but I couldnt find the original creator. I designed everything else though! I made it so you can load up the dispenser with as many charges as you want :p

Can someone Explain it Peter about John Green not supporting Hank Green’s new endeavors?

This is about the Hank Green AI scandal.

The tag highlighted in yellow on this tumblr post. The original user has comments, asks, and direct messages disabled, so I couldn’t directly ask them without reblogging and tbh I just didn’t feel like doing that. I tried searching on DDG, but I didn’t get any results about this. I don’t want to comb through years of vlogbrothers videos for this either. Does anyone know what exactly this was referring to? Explain it Peter

Minecarts should travel at different speeds depending on what block is beneath their rails

One problem with buffing minecart speed as-is is breaking existing redstone contraptions that rely on rail's 8 block/sec speed for consistency and timing. Instead of adding alternate rails (copper rails?) like a lot of people suggest, what if the blocks below the rails affected the speed of minecarts?

In this example, rails on stone (or any other block) go at the default 8 b/s speed, dirt (and sand) go at 16 b/s speed, cobblestones go at 32 b/s speed, and gravel goes at 64 b/s speed (though I'd prefer it to be more like 80b/s at max). The idea for the block choices is that rail in real life is built on gravel to keep it stable, so the closer something is to gravel the faster the cart should go! I also added dirt and sand because I thought it would be useful for the base ground block to get a speed boost if someone's being really lazy with their railroads

This change has a few benefits. First of all, it buffs rail without changing minecarts for redstoners. Second of all, it allows for a wide breadth of minecart speeds without adding a bunch of different rail types. Thirdly, due to the fastest block being a gravity block, there's a minor architectural challenge for building with the highest-speed rail as you need a block below

EDIT: forgot to link to it earlier, but this was inspired by this older suggestion!

Bane of Arthropods should also work on any mobs that currently have the Weaving status effect

BoA is famously one of the worst enchantments due to its extremely limited use case. It just doesn’t have a lot of mobs it would be useful against, despite dealing more damage than Sharpness. So why not give it a wider application?

It should still deal extra damage to natural arthropods, but it should also deal extra damage to any mob with the Weaving status effect. That way, if you splash a mob with Weaving, they take more damage than they would from Sharpness from every hit. It’s still a very niche application, but you could use it situationally against tough enemies like Piglin Brutes or even in PVP. One benefit to Weaving over other potions in this instance is it wouldn’t matter if you also splashed yourself with Weaving; the negative effects from Weaving only get triggered by having a BoA weapon

Songs that sound like Orbit by Alice Phoebe Lou

It’s been my absolute favorite song as of late, but I’m having a hard time finding anything else like it. I’ve listened to the Orbit album and while I like the other songs, they don’t scratch the same itch Orbit the song does. I haven’t listened to all of Alice Phoebe Lou’s music so maybe I’m missing something else that scratches that itch, but do you have any other recs?

G6 should have had a mix of adapted ponies across generations instead of being G4 2.0

G4’s cast wasn’t handed down from the heavens to be the perfect Mane 6. They were all inspired by previous generations, but adapted and modified to be something new.

Twilight Sparkle came from Twilight (G1), Fluttershy came from Posey (G1), Rainbow Dash was the personality of Firefly (G1) but with Rainbow Dash (G3)’s design, etc. G6 should have done this as well!

G6 being a copy and paste of the Mane 6 but leaving out two characters just feels weird, like an incomplete set that we *know* is incomplete. G5 being entirely new ponies led to characters who didn’t really fit with previous generations all that well. This problem would have been avoided by just doing what G4 did, and having an original cast inspired by old cast.

Also, G6 having the same characters as G4 is going to inherently make it live in the shadow of G4. In 2027 you won’t be able to look up the characters without seeing results for their more popular iterations (similar to what happened with G3’s Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie).

I understand the marketing appeal of having G4 ponies, who are the most popular of the entire franchise. But taking ponies from previous generations doesn’t have to inherently be unpopular! You can adapt some G4 characters but also adapt some G3 and G1 characters—you’d draw in a whole new nostalgic audience by bringing back G3 Minty. Hell, bring back a G5 character too! Just change them enough to be unique and cohesive, rather than being copy and pastes across generations.

I don’t think G6 looks bad, but I was way more excited for the potential of a new world with new yet familiar characters than a copy and paste

The way they’re hyping up this next season makes me super excited

I’ve only been a fan of JLTG for half a year now, and my first new season was S16 Hide+Seek UK. Out of the three seasons I’ve been here for their release, I feel like they hyped up S17 Taiwan the most. And boy did that season deliver. The fact that it genuinely does feel like they hype up seasons differently depending on how good they think the seasons are is making me super excited for S19!!!

For any JLTG fans who have been around longer, have you noticed this in the past?

A proof-of-concept datapack to make the entire world generate as a single large continent in an infinite ocean

Basically what it says on the tin! A proof-of-concept to make the world generate as one large continent.

This datapack only modifies the "continentalness" noise value, which is the noise that controls where ocean and land generate. The way it works is by flattening the continentalness value as you get further from spawn—this keeps all biomes near spawn in the exact same spot as they would be in vanilla, including vanilla oceans (as you can see with the few inland seas on this map). The noise system is a little imperfect, which leads to outlying islands in "ring" shapes around the continent, but IMO that adds to the aesthetic a bit.

I'm probably not going to publish this, as the mechanism behind this is an adaptation of a similar technique I saw used in Stardust Labs' "Continents" datapack

[/uj] instead of saying afab/amab, use the full phrase

im gonna preface this by saying i do not like agab language. that being said, a lot of people do, and i understand why they do.

on the agab language debate: i think an interesting middle ground is to not say “afab” or “amab”, but if needed say “assigned (fe)male at birth”.

a problem with amab/afab is that they’ve turned into words in their own right due to their shortness and pronounceability—and as all words do when left unchecked, their meanings have begun to drift. amab/afab no longer means “assigned X at birth” in the most literal sense, but has drifted to something akin to “biological (fe)male”. a good example of this is that people don’t say they were afab/amab, but that they are afab/amab (which is incorrect for the full phrase, as the act of being assigned is inherently past tense).

using the full phrase “assigned X at birth” does two key things in my opinion. first of all, it keeps the focus on the acrual meaning of the phrase: you WERE assigned X at birth, as in the act of being assigned was the doctor writing down an F or M on your birth certificate; this happened at birth, and does not necessarily have ongoing implications for your life.

secondly, saying the phrase over the acronym/word is inherently clunkier and less convenient, which can discourage its use: people might subconsciously be more likely to type out a more specific thing influencing their life experience rather than defaulting to afab/amab. as an example, rather than defaulting to afab, someone might just say “since i have a period” instead of typing out “assigned female at birth” (because having a period is the more relevant thing here, moreso than the letter on their original birth certificate).

i do not like agab language, but i do understand how it can be useful. i think this is a decent middle ground. pls give ur thoughts!
