Why is this game so cheap?

I’m coming from Magic. There it’s not irregular to have multiple cards at rare or uncommon cost a few dollars, some value pulls being in double digits, and some cards being able to refund the box.

That doesn’t seem to exist with Rifbound. Don’t get me wrong, ecstatic about that. But I’m just curious as to why? Like why don’t any of the rare cards hold value and the only valuable cards are specialty cards like alt arts and overnumbers?

Yall missing the point. This isn't play to win

To all the people saying you needed to participate to earn the supply frv, if that was true it would be a defensible opinion. However, it isn't true. I got the supply frv, want to take a guess what my participation was? One day, during the middle of the second MO, I went to see what the new campaign menu looked like. I signed on, saw it, said "huh that's neat" and logged back off. I did not play a mission. I did not contribute to the MO. This isn't a participation reward, this isn't a badge for being there. This is a way to boost engagement/sign on numbers. That is it. If it was actually play to win and told to us ahead of time, like the cape rewards, then I'd be okay with it. But it's not. I shouldn't have the frv right now, but I do. Because all AH is doing this for is metrics farming.

Where to start?

I’ve circled around Warhammer in general for a while. Mainly following lore, a couple content creators, and have a few necrons that are in varying stages of hobbying. Overall the hobby just felt like such a huge time and money investment I haven’t really jumped in and just kept moving around it. Then I heard AoS is cheaper (comparatively) and looked about at Nighthaunt. I don’t really have anyone else I know to play with, the closest I’d get is one buddy who hates spending money so the time and money investment would be me getting a second army which I’m not against but kinda eh. Given all this I’m looking at two entry points and want your guys’ opinion. I like the pyregheist war cry box, they look like really cool models. But I’ve also heard they’re not worth that many points if used for mainline AoS so they’re kinda expensive in that sense. Alternatively I’m looking at the Spearhead. The models look good as well and it would be a better start to a full army but it’s a higher upfront cost and the more models does end up creating more of a pile of shame if I don’t get them done. So which should I pick?

The lore of this game is so good

I picked this game up just a few weeks ahead of Monument of Triumph. At the request of my duo prior to entering the Final Shape campaign I’ve been rewatching all the lore content from the seasons between Lightfall and Final Shape. Just, man. The lore is so good. It seems so fun and each of these seasons feel like full campaigns on their own. But damn that just makes me more annoyed that I can’t play them. Like according to my duo Amanda’s death was actually a big moment for people. I didn’t really care because I had yet to interact with her in game. Then I watch over the Season of the Witch and with Hive being my favorite faction I do wish I could have actually played through that. All the vaulted content is so terrible for the game and especially the lore because I’m looking at maybe half the story that I can actually play through.

So what’s the alternative?

Modrinth went and screwed themselves. Curseforge is still back. So what’s the next best thing? Because this sucks.

Feeling “off” is such an underrated tool

I’ve played a fair share of factory builders and a consistent theme that has helped greatly is a feeling that something is off, not right, inefficient, or dumb. To take from the first factory game that really “clicked” with me, in Atrio: the Dark Wild I was struggling to figure out automation because splitters are late in the game and each building had one input you had to drive a belt into. Or at least that was what I thought. Turns out the buildings would pull from adjacent belts even if the belts were not pointed directly into the machine. Or take for example the entire start of Satisfactory. It is kinda miserable. You’re hand mining, hand crafting, making a mess of your inventory to keep up biomass generators. It sucks, it’s dumb and bad. But that’s to encourage you to utilize the machines. My first playthrough I only used smelters once I had constructors and could make whole lines. You bet that changed on future playthroughs, once they unlocked they were going down. It feels like such a great learning tool to have our own sense of efficiency guide us to finding improvements or push us towards the automation.

Holy shit this is what good updates are like

Not the latest patch notes, who gives a shit about those. I’m talking Destiny 2. Another game made by a Sony owned company, but D2 is getting its live service cut out. Their final update dropped yesterday and just, what the hell. I’ve had so much fun before and then we got a good update. A reason to grind, new gamemodes, new fun combo options. I’ve played this with my old HD2 duo and he’s noticed the difference as I get to be positive again. I still love HD2 and want it to succeed. But now getting to feel what a good update feels like, I’m not coming back till I see the same from HD2. If they can keep their promises HD2 can have really cool and good updates like this. Ships could be fun. I just hope that AH actually pulls it off. Because having a pve game that is balanced like it’s a pve game with fun at the focus has been absolutely wonderful.

I'm so tired of playing second fiddle

I get it, Dino was a broken character. I will not deny that fact. But let's look at the efficiency. Dino is a fun but broken tank, nerfed in one season. Supports have Gambit and Luna both op and only Gambit gets nerfed this season. But hey, at least they've tried to nerf Gambit earlier. DPS don't get nerfed. Phoenix, oppressive since launch got a buff in 8.0. Daredevil, insta ban since release. Elsa, so overtuned she got nerfed and still was in high A to S tier seasons later. Black Cat got 6 additional team up like abilities and is the most overstuffed and broken kit, still got a full season of clearance before nerfs. But when it's a tank, that can't stand. Half a season with Dino and then nerf him out. Don't raise the other tanks up, nerf him. And to beat the other claims from this patch, Rogue is a side grade because of the nerf to the team up, Angela is just reverting her from the garbage state they put her in with the nerfs a few season ago, and Mag is a legit buff because the w key shield tank needs to be at the top of tank lists forever.

I'm pretty proud of this

I know I know. The base is bad. But I've been really bad about sticking to factory builders. That combined with the fear instilled in me from the biter attacks in my first attempted playthrough and I didn't know if I was going to actually get anywhere on this playthrough. But after who knows how many hours, I finally have blue science going. I hadn't even really automated engines well before this point. I know there's still a lot left, but it feels like a big milestone to finally get to laser turrets and have roboports on the horizon.

Ship sinking information

I’m trying to make ship combat rules for a SoT themed campaign. However I can’t find any info on the wiki and I’m turning to you guys instead. Mainly I’m looking for how many levels/necessary buckets for each type of ship and what the fill rate per level for each type of hole. Any other information is also welcome.

Fac and location claiming issues

This is a bit of a vent and a bit of looking for insight. I’m a solo making a fac for some 20mm in a not well defended area a few hexes from the frontline. I’ve started to get things going and another player told me I should stop trying to make the ammo fac because it’s not well defended and I should either go further back in the hex or swap to just making msupps. Trying to be a good team player I check around just to find the other resources in hex have all been claimed by regis. I don’t want to just make msupps, I’ve done that before and it’s boring as hell. I’d like to just build up the fac how I wanted but I don’t have the time or energy to upkeep defenses around the fac and overall this kinda just demoralized me. I was having fun planning and setting up this fac then I run into all this and I’m not sure what to do about it.

Asymmetry is a great addition to the game

I’ve seen numerous posts talking about how much better the game was before asymmetry, but I wanted to offer my perspective as someone who never saw that version of the game. It is much more interesting to see the differences between the different vehicles makes each side look really interesting. It also gives twice the amount of content as you get to try out each different vehicle.

The problem is the dev’s inability to balance the game which is only exasperated by the asymmetry. There still would be plenty of imbalance even if both sides had the same kits. But because the asymmetry is there, the noticed balance differences are stuck between the sides. I don’t want them to remove the asymmetry from the game because it’s cool. But the imbalance has to be addressed, even if that means losing the asymmetry for a bit.

Help a Foxhole player understand

I enjoy Foxhole, specifically I will usually be in the back on a field or at a fac. So when I got access to the playtest, I went ahead and started looking into a homestead. Figured I'd just make food, because why not. I get resources collected, but as I'm going through all this, I find out that silver can only be gained from towns. So my homestead which needs silver to run and is build a good distance away from the city, now needs me to transport my stuff and do quests to upkeep my homestead that's way far away. Which just seems way too tedious to me. Like in Foxhole, you've got msupps which are a grind, but they just need the resources to make them in a Materials Factory. It feels like silver is supposed to be the equivalent for homesteads, but is so much more tedious. The equivalent being needing to bring the scrap to a refinery and using the bmat recipe to get msupps. Am I missing some way to make this nicer, or are homesteads just this messy?

This post is the reason why everyone is so scared of Vanguard

I hope Riot takes this as a learning opportunity, because I think right now, there's just a pr problem (see this entire sub just complaining about Vanguard crashes). This post was scary. Whether cheater or not, a company bragging about turning tech into paper weights should be concerning to you. Because being called a paperweight is very common of bricked tech. That then brought on the question of issues people were having with Vanguard and fears that it was actually bricking their devices.

Now since Riot has explained (although it seems like they're not giving a full clear answer to keep from letting the cheaters know everything), it's been made known that Vanguard isn't bricking devices, just removing their utility, as it should. This really was a PR issue and I wish people would understand that, because the more people spread that "it can brick pcs" the less likely people are to want to play the games.

Another Steamy type issue here

So in the last patch notes they changed a few titles. Here's the list:

Blackout Drinker (Normal, store) -> Bottomless Pit

Pyromaniac (Prime, level 100 fire) -> Angry Toaster

Dynamo (Prime, level 100 elec) -> Discounted Roomba

Shaman (Prime, level 100 voodoo) -> Socially Inept

Botanist (Prime, level 100 cactus) -> Dehydrated Weed

Gambling Ace (Mythic, gamble 100 times) -> Gambling Addit

Now I have my issues with these, mostly because they went from proud titles to like insulting and the only one I'd keep around would be Gambling Addict. But besides my personal preference, Discounted Roomba needs to get changed again. Setting aside that it feels more belonging to a wind element displacement spell set than the current one. Roomba is a trademarked item, you can't just use the name in a commercial product. Please devs, change this before it becomes a problem for you.

AH just learns all the wrong lessons

I'm marking this as a vent but it's not a rant. I'm not mad, just sad at this outcome.

We had a chance at good, clear communication. The AMA dropped here and every one of us took it. We were as respectful as we could be, while still being passionate about this game, and we asked the questions that we felt needed to be answered. Then, when given the answers, we tore into them. Johan saying things were years away got noticed, down prioed, sweet summer child. They all got picked up on. None of which are bad things, but I think they showed AH something different than what we saw. We see it as observing and critiquing what they're saying the same we do everything about this game and their words. I think AH learned that the more they give, the "worse" it gets for them. I think this is the same reason why we have gotten vague messages and no more comments about the community since the Coyote nerf video and response. From the 60-day patch they learned that we will make a fuss about nerfs, so they start hiding nerfs. Now, after Johan's AMA we see them responding in vague terms on a platform we can't really interact well on, that being steam news.

I'm disappointed. This studio was loved and just at every chance fails to learn the lesson we would like them to. I don't believe we'll see another actual personal response like we saw with the AMA. Because they learned that was a threat, even when it was some of the best communication we've gotten from them. I wish following the Coyote live stream they learned that we appreciate apologies. I wonder if the "sweet summer child" message could have been cleared up with a simple apology and clarification. I wish they would have learned from the comments on the One True Flag that fun shouldn't be down prioed. I wish they would have learned that we who are here, shouting at them, ranting about them, all still care for this game. I wish they would see we're not just a vocal minority demanding change, but a large part of the community asking for better progression to keep the game going and give them more opportunities to sell us more stuff in a game we like.

But unfortunately, at every turn AH has learned the wrong lessons. I uninstalled the game a few weeks back and haven't considered reinstalling it. Even the CGW can't bring me back because at the end of the day, I'd have to become a metric of someone playing the game and I just don't feel like that's something I want to partake in anymore. But I guess I was holding onto some bit of hope. I kept my eye on their announcements, kept an eye here, and waited. I wanted an AMA 2 or some real communication. I guess even with how poorly the statements in the AMA were I still got some hope that it might be salvageable after a while. Baskinator making it clear the vague steam announcement was the follow up to the AMA snuffed out that last bit of hope. If AH could learn the right lessons, they could make the most fun game I've played. But they do not. And they will not. Because they will always learn the wrong lesson.

How do I use the grapple?

Sorry, I’ve just been trying to figure Peni out and probably one of my biggest issues has been the amount of jank. Try to set down a nest a little ways away, nope invalid placement and auto breaks. Climb a wall, only on the second try.

But the most frustrating has been the grapple. Out of spawn, works like a charm. In the match however, try to get up for an escape, go nowhere and be tethered in place. Fine I have to shoot it farther, doesn’t connect and I get shredded. Ok, so let’s just try level and a little ways away, nope still going no where and being tethered so I can’t leave. How the hell am I supposed to use this ability effectively?

I love how this game allows for specialization

For context, this is my boy. I love him, I was immediately hooked once I found out the support potential of the Voodoo magic. Grabbed the doctor skin and said this is what we're doing, healing and supporting. Sure playing solo or trying to contribute with bosses can suck, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm just here to keep myself and everyone else alive.

Meanwhile, you've got the crack addicts combining every bit of lightning gear to have the uber service ready whenever you need. The combo junkies ready with acid and some other mixture to make over there not exist anymore. And the people who decide they'd rather watch the work be done than do it themselves bringing cactus. This game allows for so many different playstyles and all of them feel fun. It's something so many other games struggle with, but feels so natural. Drop your builds below if you feel like sharing, but mainly I just want to congratulate the team on making such a fun system.

Hate to be that guy, but why?

I'm kinda sick of the team-up anchor bonus. It feels bad to just be given a health up as the defined thing. Because then they can take it away whenever they please to just disable the team-up. It's even more frustrating because they had a unique feature they talked about in the dev vision and could have just kept Dino at the high health, apparently healing is shared between Punisher and Dino while the team up is active. That's a cooler feature anyways, why are we stuck with just getting a health increase so they can claim some benefit?

Also, kinda wild Punisher keeps his team up with DD and then picks this one up as well.
