PCE 2.4g 8bitdo Controller on Duo

PCE 2.4g 8bitdo Controller on Duo

I saw some posts from years ago about analogue specific firmware for the controller but I can’t find that file anywhere. I updated the Duo and 8bitdo controller to latest official firmware but it won’t pair directly with the console and I can’t map buttons or use the home button to open the menu when connected using the dongle. This is maddening. Please help.

Update: I swapped the dongle to the other USB port and it is letting me power the system on with the controller now but I have to press Select + Down to open the in game menu as opposed to using the home button. When I select the USB wired controller in the settings it blinks like it wants to open another menu but goes right back to the controller selection/pairing menu. I have access to everything I need now but if I can optimize how this is supposed to be working I would feel much better (direct connection with no dongle, use the home button as a menu shortcut, and no menu freak outs)

Update 2: YouTube to the rescue! https://youtu.be/HcYLyRPPB9Q?si=LDTS_c9FPIlfh9gF

I completely overlooked the link in the Duo manual. Will test this out tomorrow.

Final Update: Got it sorted using the proper firmware. Everything works great except still no way to remap buttons.

Down the Analogue Rabbit Hole I Go

I've developed a bit of a "problem" that started with the A3D where I now have a Mega SG, Super NT, Duo, and NT Mini Noir in my possession and have been playing stuff across all of them. I have the Pocket on order for fulfilment next month but I missed out on the Dock restock. I'm REALLY hoping they drop another restock once they start shipping in June because the secondhand markups are getting insane and seem to be going up as the days go by. Alternatively, I'm banking on the secondhand prices going down a bit once they ship out more of them soon and resellers start flooding the market and competing on pricing.

After having tinkered with all the current offerings, with the exception of the Pocket my favorite is still by and far the A3D with Mega SG and Super NT tied for second. Only improvements I'd like to see there would be 4K support and ability to power on with a wireless controller. The Duo was just a FOMO buy for me while they are still around at MSRP as I didn't own a single TG-16/PCE/CD game and never played any in the past. It's neat, but probably my least favorite. The NT Mini Noir sits in a weird spot of its own because it is an exceptionally nice piece of hardware but feels WAY too overengineered for my purposes. I would have liked to own one that's more similar to the Mega SG/Super NT with a plastic shell, HDMI output only, and a considerably lower sticker price.

8bitdo N64 C-Button Trades?

I see the 8bitdo sub doesn't allow buy/sell/trade posts. Are we allowed to start a megathread here to trade for missing C-buttons from the button replacement kits that have duplicates?

N64 Replacement Buttons

Two out of four sets have duplicate C-buttons. Absolutely ridiculous that this issue is so widespread. Hopefully they can just send me the two missing buttons so I can finish this project.

The entire collection should be up on Reddit now. If I missed any titles, please let me know and I'll double check. Decided to do two versions of this one because I liked how the blue Chromatic text looked but I know some people will want to have the consistency of the rainbow one across all three of the 90s Rewind titles. Hope this helps some folks out and look forward to seeing any edits and additional customs that come from this. Enjoy!

I just received a copy of Smash Remix from Aliexpress and it doesn’t appear to work on the A3D. Anybody have one working with the latest firmware?

Gonna hook up the OG N64 tomorrow and see if it even works at all.

Speed run on my midlife crisis completed. 296 NTSC-U loose game cartridges acquired, cleaned, tested, cased, some reshelled with fresh labels, and shelved. I skipped F1 Racing Championship because it wasn't sold at retail in the US, but I broke down and got the Blitz Special Edition even though it teeters on the fine line of official release and variant. Not included in the 296 count, but also in the collection: 40 Winks, SummerCart64, Everdrive 64 x7. Also ordered Smash Remix just for funsies. Took a little longer than originally expected because I had 4 or 5 eBay sellers decide to ghost me so I had to wait to file claims on those and order different copies of a few games. I am going to settle into Ocarina of Time and then probably start up 40 Winks, then work my way through the list of stuff I haven't ever played before. Juggling a sidequest of collecting Pokemon games CIB and playing the gen 2 through current Switch 2 Pokemon titles that I never experienced (OG Red version is my jam and I played a ton of it growing up but never had my own copy of any Pokemon title).

The DIAA-1 has me concerned it might be fake. I think everything else checks out, but I'm really new to this and hoping I didn't get screwed over.

Is there a ROM patch that I need to get Final Fantasy VI to quit freaking out and going all static and loud noises before freezing up on the EZ-Flash Omega Definitive Edition? I am able to make it past the introduction scene but the minute I open the in-game menu is craps up.
