Okay, here's the deal

Im 22 and ive never sailed anything, im a scuba diver and strong swimmer, spending so much time in my local lakes has made me want a sailboat.

Ive got a somewhat decent concept of the basic mechanics of how a sailboat works but no practical experience, ive been keeping an eye out on marketplace and craigslist, other local boards for boats and it seems like I can get outdoor storage for a pretty minimal fee, and there's a good number of 14ft day sailors in the 0-$1000 range

I have a sedan which can be fitted with a trailer hitch rated at 2,000lbs which is another point for a 14ft as most estimates ive seen put the trailer weight around 1000lbs

I work 3 days a week, so plenty of time to do work myself, im a machinist and industrial repair and maintenance tech so I think ill be up to most of the repair tasks

Im only looking for something that can handle day sailing on local lakes, and at most carry 2 people at a time

Here's the things I want advice on

Is a 14ft too small to learn on? Ive heard small boats have a sharper learning curve and are less forgiving.

How much money should I realistically expect to spend a year excluding storage costs on maintaining a 14ft sailboat?

Do i need an outboard motor or can i get by with oars and sails?

Where do I actually start with learning to sail? Are there classes? Do I read some books, watch some instructional videos and give it a shot on a nice day?

What should I look for when buying a boat this size?

What equipment will I need *other* then a boat?

Hi everyone, i had some questions about the process because im considering submitting a request.

First off, how much do these things usually cost you? The answers im getting are pretty vague and I understand that as it depends on search time amd number of documents ect, but if you guys can give me a ballpark, id really appreciate it.

2nd, do I have to request a certain type of record or can I request a piece of information, IE do I have to request "records related to acquisition and maintenance cost of xyz" or can I just request "acquisition and maintenance cost of" and then get sent an answer instead of actual records

If i do need to request records in specific how can I make sure im getting everything relevant to my request if I dont necessarily know what they'll have to ask for each thing I want in specific

So ill preface this by saying that while ive been on a few boats ive never been in command of one or responsible for actually sailing anything, I think ive got a solid grasp of how it works in basic principles though.

So, my question, ive seen a good number of posts about single hand sailing and a lot of them have something to the effect of "its irresponsible not to keep a regular watch while sleeping because the boat is going to sail xyz distance in xyz amount of time, you need to wake up on this schedule and check to make sure you aren't about to run into anything" as well as conversations about how some boats move too fast to be safe because of the distance they cover while someone is sleeping, ect ect.

Why don't you just...not move?

Obviously a boat wont remain perfectly still at sea, but you can lower and furl the sails and you'll be adrift for an hour or two at much lower then sailing speed. I understand in previous days this might hinder navigating greatly, but with sat nav and such other modern equipment?

If the water is shallow enough you could drop anchor, yes?

Or if you must keep moving couldn't you throw a sea anchor astern to slow your pace while you sleep?

Someone please fill me in on why you'd stay under sail instead of simply staying put to sleep a few hours and go on in the morning

So, I got a pinhole in the sidewall of my tire, the area has a small scuff maybe the size of a nickel and leaks very slowly, took about 10 minutes to get a low pressure warning after the leak started, this is from hitting a curb

Is there any way to patch?or is any side wall leak game over?

It seems like so many games have been "in development" for 10 or 15 years now when the previous games in the series took 3-5, most notably gta 6 and elder scrolls 6 but several others as well.

Why has game development slowed down so much from big studios?
