I Listen to the Top Comment (and give it a short review) Day 13

Rules: Must be an Album or EP, only one album per comment, must be already released

Day 1: Kate Bush - The Dreaming

Well this one is wild, I really like the manic energy Kate Bush brings to this one. Surreal is the best way to describe it, I can understand why it was mixed reception at the time but I think it aged like wine. The Dreaming holds its name well, you feel like your fever dreaming while listening to it go from odd scene to odd scene. However... It just doesn't reach the peaks that some of Kate Bush's other albums does in my opinion and not all the songs are memorable. But overall its great and I recomend it.

Fav Songs: Sat in Your Lap, Night of the Swallow, Houdini, Get Out of My House

Least Fav Songs: There Goes a Tenner, Leave It Open, All the Love

17/20

Day 2: Depeche Mode - Violator

Some of the best sythpop you can get. I really like how alt-dance music is incorperated throughout this album. This album sounds like a dark dancefloor, perfect for a late night drive or a pitch black listening session. Some of these tracks are borderline darkwave which is great. The middle starting with Personal Jesus all the way to Policy of Truth is flawless. While blue dress is a bit of low point this is still a super easy rec. I HIGHLY recomend listening to this at night.

Fav Songs: World in My Eyes, Personal Jesus, Halo, Waiting for the Night, Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, Clean

Least Fav Songs: Blue Dress

19/20

Day 3: Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space

This one is so close to perfection. The first half is perfect, the six first songs are great, with I think Im In Love as a standout. The ending 4 songs are great too, which featrures Cop Shoot Cop... THAT SONG IS AMAZING. Cop Shoot Cop... is the standout song of an already amazing album. What could possibly be holding it back from a perfect score? Home of the Brave and The Individual, that's what. The Individual in particular is a raodblock preventing me from giving Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space a perfect 20. I HIGHLY recomend this stellar album.

Fav Songs: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, Come Together, I Think I'm in Love, Stay With Me, Electricity, Broken Heart, No God Only Religion, Cool Waves, Cop Shoot Cop...

Least Fav Songs: Home of the Brave, The Individual
19/20

Day 4: Comus - First Utterance

First one of these albums which I haven't heard before. the opening Diana was certainly odd and off putting ill give it that, but I much prefer the next two tracks which are less weird. Overall i think its good, its not my usual cup of tea and socks are not blown off but I undertand why so many like it. But to me The Herald and Drip Drip are way better than the rest which both are right at the begining of an 11 song album over 1 hour long which made me loose a little interest around the end which isn't as good as the begining. Although I did like Winter Is A Coloured Bird and I think it would've made a better ender than the actual final song. Overall I'd only recomend it to folkheads because as someone who is not, this didn't do it for me, however I do recognize its quality.

Fav Songs: The Herald, Drip Drip,

Least Fav Songs: Bitten, All the Colours of Darkness

14/20

Day 5: Hawkwind - Space Ritual

Wow this a long one, 2h12 to be exact. I wasn't super familiar with space rock, other than early Pink Floyd, so I was looking forward to this one. I also love that y'al picked a live album that's really cool. Anyways this one has a lot of strong points but also a few noticable weaknesses. Intrumentally it's really strong and has excellent riffs and it's just cool af. However the vocals are not great and the lyrics are ok. Although i like how its broken up by the smaller tracks they are really not that great and I could've done without em, especially Electronic No. 1. For some reason there are 3 repeats at the end but they are different enough to justify their existence, and Time We Left This World Today's repeat is way better than the first time, but their placement makes em feel tacked on. Overall high highs and low lows. I do recomend it if the length doesn't scare you.

Fav Songs: Lord of Light, Brainstorm, Master of the Universe, You Shouldn't do That (1), Time We Left This World Today (2)

Least Fav Songs: Electronic No. 1, Time We Left This World Today (1), Welcome to the Future,, those weird poestry interludes

14/20

Day 6: Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time

A shoegaze classic. This is definately on the more psychadelic edge of shoegaze, this album makes me feel like im having a trip on tropical summer adventure. I love it when it has this aquatic almost underwater fuzzy sound to it. Fantastic concept even if the lyrics are a little hard to understand at points. Despite how electric this is it feels very of nature and twinkling at a lot of points. It's Lo-Fi fuzziness puts you in trance and makes for a great etheral experience. I don't think the second half is as strong as the first but it's still very consistent throughout. Candy Claws best album. I do solidly recomend this album

Fav Songs: White Seal (Shell & Spine), Fell in Love (At the Water), Pangaea Girls (Magic Feeling), New Forest (Five Heads of the Sun), Transitional Bird (Clever Girl), Fallen Tree Bridge (Brave Rainbow), Where I Found You (One Star)

Least Fav Songs: Night Ela (Mystic Thing)

18/20

Day 7: Glenn Branca - The Ascension

The birth of Post-Rock, the doesn't sound like post-rock. Hailing from the No Wave scene Glenn Branca delivers a contemporary classical album which is a classic in the experimental/noise/post rock scenes. This is Totalism and some pretty good one at that. Not only is this album super influencial but it holds up quite well today. I feel like fans of Swans would love this. I also recomend the Third Ascension by Glenn Branca which is also great.

Fav Songs: Lesson No. 2, The Spectacular Commodity, The Ascension

Least Fav Songs: Structure

18/20

Day 8: Coil - The Ape of Naples

The marimba of death. A very good Coil album and one with a legenary reputation. Coil will always be masters of Industrial Darkwave which is one of the most underapreciated genres out there. I think this album has very strong start, even if im not as in love with Tatooed Man as most Coil fans are. The best song is the last, Going Up, an absolute masterpeice of a closer. However the middle doesn't impress in the context of Coil's discography as a whole. Overall i do recomend this for sure.

Fav Songs: Fire of the Mind, The Last Amethyst Deceiver, Triple Sun, Teenage Lightning 2005, Going Up

Least Fav Songs: It's in My Blood, I Don't Get It, Cold Cell

17/20

Day 9: Czarface - Every Hero Needs a Villain

Ok there was a three way tie so i went with the only one I haven't listened already. I was only familliar with Czarface from the MF DOOM collabs. I actually think this was better than those. Love how quirky it is, it's genuinly funny at points which I like. Although its a little hit or miss the begining is really solid and Nightcrawler is sooo good. The energy throughout the album is infectious and I had fun throughout. Unfortunately not all the songs are as good or memorable as its peaks. I do recomend it.

Fav Songs: Czartacus, Lumberjack Match, Nightcrawler (feat. Method Man), When Gods Go Mad (feat. GZA), Ka-Bang! (feat. MF Doom), Escape From Czarkham Asylum, Good Villains Go Last (feat. R.A. The Rugged Man)

Least Fav Songs: Red Alert, Junkyard Dogs (feat. Juju of the Beatnuts), Sgt. Slaughter, Sinister

16/20

Day 10: Alvin Lucier - I Am Sitting In A Room

I am sitting in a room, listening to the same words being repeated over and over again in an excercise of fusion between man and location. Day 11: きのこ帝国 - ロンググッドバイ(Kinoko Teikoku - Long Goodbye)

Another tie, uhhhh lets go with the EP plus language variety. きのこ帝国 my beloved mushroom band. An extremely consistent 20min EP that is a perfect add on to their great first two albums. While Eureka is more Shoegaze and 渦になる more Indie J-Rock in style, ロンググッドバイis きのこ帝国 at their most dream pop. A short collection of tracks that are all mostly some of their best work, especially パラノイドパレード which is the standout song. Only Make L isn't one their best which is just a short 1min ender. The only thing is that i doesn't reach the absolute peak of their catalogue and if that is the only flaw then you know its good. An easy reccomendation and great start to get into きのこ帝国, which you should do.

Fav Songs: ロンググッドバイ, 海と花束, パラノイドパレード, Flower Girl

Least Fav Songs: Make L

19/20

Day 12: Gustavo Cerati - Bocanada

Ok so there was a SEVEN way tie so I just radomized it. Gustavo Cerati's Bocanada is a certified south american classic. Rock Sónico just wouldn't be the same without Gustavo and I think this is his best work, solo or otherwise. Psychadelic, atmospheric, electronic, poetic, lush(ic), and even a little aquatic. What's not to love. When I hear about a blend of rock and electronic I think of this, not because it's the most rock-like or electronic-like but because it's such a perfect fusion that while listening it almost feels like their is no difference. Picking a favourite song is particularlly difficult and there are zero songs that are not great. i 100% recomend it, it is flawless

Fav Songs: Tabú, Engaña, Bocanada, Río Babel, Beautiful, Raíz, Paseo inmoral, Aquí & ahora (Los primeros tres minutos), Aquí & ahora (Y después), Alma

Least Fav Songs: none lol
