Most popular rock music occurs either with a singular guitar "hero", or in the rhythm/lead binary. Everyone knows this, right? Rhythm and lead. Lead and rhythm. One player does one thing, the second does another... there are songs about it:

"Mind he’s strictly rhythm he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing..."

Even relatively well-known guitar "heroes" admit that they can be somewhat lacking in certain areas:

"What do you think are your biggest weaknesses as a guitarist?"

You see posts searching for one or the other quite consistently, but that's really not what we do. Guitar is a means to an end, a mid-frequency tool that adds many layers to a delicious ensemble of sound. Sure, sometimes the breakdown is rhythm, noise, lead... sometimes it's rhythm, rhythm, noise... sometimes it's rhythm, lead, lead... or sometimes, in the words of Thom Yorke:

“Sometimes the nicest thing to do with a guitar is just look at it.”

So, knowing there are already two of us looking for a third guitarist...

... if you can do that lead stuff without always resorting to a major pentatonic scale - Adrian Belew's solo approach in "Thela Hun Ginjeet" and "Elephant Talk", for example, was to allow the guitar to mimic non-musical sound sources, playing textures that suggest elephants, cars, and industrial noise rather than traditional guitar vocabulary...

... if you feel like playing in a rehearsal/studio project making cinematic progressive rock - not prog metal, mind you - with middle-aged people because I know young cats often want people their own age (I was the same way when I was younger, so don't worry: you're forgiven for not reading any further)...

... if you're willing to meet in Bellevue and Bothell because we aren't capitol hill-centric and we are not going to be...

... and if you have the prerequisites: reliable gear, reliable transport, and wisdom enough to have gotten over your substance issues and yes that also means alcohol...

... if you're down to hang out with musicians who take a pluralistic view of those around them... 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️♀️🌎🌏🌍

We don't expect to find someone today, tomorrow, next week, next month - we're pretty sure this is a tall order and are perfectly happy to wait for the right person. The "right person" part is the most important part. We don't care that you're not some accomplished virtuoso, we just want everyone to like being in the room together making art. The right chemistry is the challenge.

Anyone else gets theirs today?

I posted about a month ago and I wanted to follow up after having received and cleaned the 302S. I'll put the link to the original thread in the comments.

There are after and before pics (in that order) for your perusal. Whatever the paint that was on it was removed by isopropyl alcohol. I got all of it on a single pass except two parts:

1.) There was some gold paint on the pickguard which I had to wash off with a scouring pad. There are now extra scratches on the pickguard, but it's not called a "scratch plate" for nothing, am I right?

2.) In the pics above, you can see something of a "compass" near the upper horn area that had also been painted with the gold ink paint pen or whatever the hell it was. I've not gone back over it with alcohol yet; I wanted to try acetone/nail polish remover but that might be too strong for the polyurethane. I could also just leave it - I haven't decided yet.

The frets have some wear in the first five. The prior owner was a fan of open chords, it seems, because the higher frets are clear. I also shined them with my fret eraser set, now they're all sparkly and clean.

The rosewood board has some wear. I really don't want to mess with steel wool on the rosewood because it just creates a mess, so it's another issue I might just have to live with. The prior owner played it, though didn't quite take care of the guitar.

It also arrived with the bridge pickup inoperable. There is an absolute rats nest of wiring inside the cavity - all stock from what I can tell - and I was able to figure out that having a loose volume pot yanked the bridge pickup's ground wire off the solder joint. Y'ALL, THESE WIRES ARE TINY, and I had to get out the needle nose pliers for this solder job.

The fretboard was DRY and it drank up the lemon oil. Now it's all nice and "purty".

I need to soak the screws in some vinegar to get the rust off of them, and then get some 10s and re-string it, but I think she's ready to go otherwise.

Hello all, new to the sub, and new to Pacificas. In light of recent news <ahem> I figured I'd try a Yamaha and see what the fuss was all about. I managed to score this 302S on ebay, and while it's still in transit, I wanted to get more information on specs and history of the model, etc, etc.

Based on what I've already put together, these were made in Taiwan in the nineties, alder body, rosewood fretboard, maple neck, the typical "T" specs. Anything else I should know?

It's also difficult to judge what exactly the paint is without having it in front of me. Hopefully it's easy to remove without getting to harsh on the poly (rubbing alcohol? nail polish remover?)

I'm interested in something new, something cool. I've been learning more about the PRS Silver Sky (core), the Music Man Silhouette, and various Kiesel models (the pre-updated Osiris is pictured), but have really only played an SE and an OLP - I haven't so much as seen a Kiesel in person, though there's a used one near me.

I'm open to various styles, and don't adhere to the belief that certain guitars play certain music styles better than others. I just want a cool piece.

What are some pros and cons of each? They're all priced accordingly on the used market.

Every time I fly home to see my mom, I take a look at the gear situation; sometimes I find cool stuff, sometimes not.

I found a listing for a used Shure Super 55 and it sent me down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out the difference between this and my 55SH beyond the on/off switch and black labelling.

I haven't used my mic in a while because I'm not performing these days, but I did run to grab the Pelican case where I keep it safe from dust, moisture, and general mayhem, took it apart, and...

... it's fake.

Long story short, someone is selling a Talman body and neck and it looks like an interesting project, but something seems off. At first glance, it looks like a TV650 - white body, top edge binding, two-point bridge, the routing looks like what was typical of these... and I have one, so I'm familiar with the specs.

However, one of the neck bolts looks way too close to the edge by the heel. The TV650 also didn't have a maple fretboard like this one does. Also, the logo is in mother-of-pearl, and pretty much every Talman had a black or gold metallic ink decal.

It doesn't seem to me like there's much of a market for a "Chibanez" version of a Talman model that was released thirty years ago, so what am I looking at? A prototype? A body with a neck build? A factory reject out of FujiGen?
