October Releases

Hopefully this month's graphic is a bit clearer than last month's! I'm still not 100% happy with the layout but there's only so much faffing around with powerpoint I can tolerate, suggestions welcome to improve for next month!

Just as last month I've put together a graphic of October's releases. Everything on this list comes from DCM, but there is an even more complete list here from the Film Distributor's Association. Thank you to a kind commenter last week who pointed this out to me, but for readability's sake I'll be sticking to the DCM list, with a few exceptions, as it's far shorter!

Dates listed here may vary by chain and region.

Of course, a lot of us here will be seeing many more new films at LFF. Still, let us all know what new releases you're looking forward to this month?

I’m Limitless again!

Honestly just feeling good about this month of cinema, got my student rate so I’m Limitless+ since it ends up a quid cheaper, got three films booked for Saturday and best believe I took advantage of that new vip seats perk, just buzzing honestly

Weak gas smell when neighbours use shower?

Hi everyone, I’ve just moved back to my student accommodation after the summer less than a week ago. I’ll set the scene of the building situation here, it’s a block of flats with each flat having five rooms with a bathroom each and one kitchen. I’m in room D, so let’s say my relevant neighbour is in room E.

Last night I suddenly noticed a high pitched whistle/hissing noise and a slight sulfur / rotten eggy smell while I was in bed (I have nowhere else to sit so I’m always in bed really). At first I wondered if someone left the stove on even though it’s electric so I checked that, it was off, I also checked the kitchen and hallway for the same smell and didn’t notice anything, I did hear that the resident of room E had their shower on. I managed to isolate the sound to my shower. Now my bathroom always smells ever so vaguely of sewage which I’ve just come to expect in this place, but the sulfur smell was only in my bedroom closest to the wall shared with room E.

The sound stopped after a while, I’m guessing when E finished their shower, and the smell sort of dissipated I guess or maybe I got used to it, I sprayed some air freshener and went to bed. When I was having my Sunday lie in though (as one does) after an hour or so of my being awake I was suddenly hit with the smell again, but this time no noise from the shower.

I’d like to stress that the smell I’m describing is only present in my bedroom, it’s similar to but distinctly different from the smell that’s always sort of present in my bathroom. It’s my third year living in this exact room and I’ve never encountered a smell like this in the bedroom before. I’m thinking there might be some kind of issue with pipes in the wall, though I have no idea if there actually are pipes in that wall. Google is telling me things like vent stack(?) issue? But I don’t want to blindly trust silly ai overviews.

I know I should probably report it to maintenance but I’m not sure what exactly I’m reporting and I hate being a bother, they also haven’t been particularly helpful in the past (when my shower was flooding the bathroom they just came in and threw some drain unblocker down it instead of actually cleaning the drain properly). Is this a serious issue? Should I just ignore it and live with the occasional weird smells? Or is there a chance something catastrophic is going to come from this?

LFF Members Sale is TOMORROW

Didn’t want to call it a night without posting something today.

A few well-wishes and last minute tips for the LFF BFI Members Sale tomorrow at 10am!

- The waiting room should open at 9am, this will not affect your place in the queue.

- The queue will be randomised at 10am, so everyone has an equal shot whether you log on at 9:00 or 9:59! The page should refresh by itself, manual refreshes may put you at the back of the queue!

- You can also book by phone (020 7928 3232), or in person at BFI Southbank (doors open 9:15 but physical queues are likely to start earlier)

- The BFI recommends that you log into your account before the sale begins, so be sure to log on before 10am for the smoothest booking experience.

- If you log on after 10am you WILL be placed at the back of the queue!

- Tickets will remain in your basket for 40 minutes as long as you remain active on the website. If you stay inactive for more than 15 minutes, the system will log you out and your tickets will be released. Make sure to stay active throughout your session and keep an eye on the time you have to book tickets after entering the website.

- You can book to see as many films as you like, but will be limited to two tickets per film / event or four tickets per family screening.

- Tickets will sell fast, don’t be too disappointed and remember that there will be extra ticket drops each Monday and at 10am every day during the festival. Tickets can also be swapped and sold here on r/BFIUK, though make sure you review our rules before posting and beware of scams when buying or selling tickets anywhere online.

- Make sure you have your card details ready and that you have enough money in your account.

- Ask if friends are willing to help you buy tickets.

- Make sure your devices are charged!

Best of luck to everyone, I hope you all have a great LFF, and are able to see many things that you want. Feel free to drop any more tips in the comments!

LFF vs Release Date

Hi guys! Sharing this here, it’s a list of films confirmed for LFF and their current UK release dates. Assume that films not on this list do not currently have UK distribution.

Helpful for deciding which films are worth your money at LFF vs waiting for the cinema release :)
