Are green kiwis bland these days or did I get a bad batch?

Hadn’t bought kiwis in a while, but Lidl had a sale on a 2lb box for about $3 so I grabbed one even though they were rock hard. They ripened after a few days but they’re so bland and tasteless. I’ll eat them but I’m not particularly enjoying them.

I think the kiwis I had most recently before these were the yellow ones that were perfect but I’ve still always liked the green ones, so I’m puzzled. Is this a bad brand? Out of season? Or are green kiwis just not that great anymore?

I’ve started seeing rubyred kiwis everywhere now — Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, some other places. The cheapest I’ve seen is TJ’s at $6 for a 1lb box. While I do like kiwis quite a bit, I’m shocked at how expensive they’ve gotten in general over the past couple of years — $1/piece or more — and I don’t really buy them that often (I have so much other fruit to eat, don’t worry). I’m really curious about these red ones, but I don’t want to buy them if they’re just gonna taste like kiwis I’ve already eaten a thousand times. Are they worth getting at that price or will I just feel ripped off?
