Obligatory "this happened last week".

Saturday night, right after putting my child to sleep, I prepare dinner for my wife and myself, a nice rumsteak with potatoes. We don't always get to have a night together because of her work schedule, so it had been a while since we had a moment to ourselves. We open a nice bottle of wine, start watching an episode of Widow's Bay and start eating.

I cut my first piece of steak, it's a pretty thick triangle shaped piece. I eat it, then some potatoes, a bit of wine, but then I start having hiccups. I know the drill, it happens on a regular basis that I have food not go all the way down to the stomach, I just have to flush it down with water and the hiccup is gone. But this time, I start choking on the water, making gargling noises, as my wife laughs because she thinks I'm joking. I wave frantically to show her I'm not faking and I'm actually choking.

Surprisingly, I'm not panicked, not in an "I'm going to die" mindset, because I know she has first aid training as part of her job, and I know she'll "save me". And sure enough, her first reflex is to tell me to "cough". I do, and immediately all the water that accumulated spurts out, I can breathe again.

I try flushing the piece again with water, same result. I can feel exactly where it is stuck, way down in my esophagus. I try making myself vomit to maybe have the piece go up, some stuff comes out, but the piece of steak remains stuck. After trying various stuff for an hour or so, I come to the conclusion that I can't do anything and need to go to the ER, because I can't even drink water. I can't even swallow my own saliva, it accumulates and every 40mn I have to make myself throw up to expell it, or I start choking again.

10PM on a Saturday night, I'm in an Uber to the nearest hospital. I know it's going to be an all-nighter, but I don't care as long as they take care of me. I'm not in immediate danger, but I don't know what would happen if I go to sleep. Will I choke on my own saliva ? I don't want to find out.

It's a long wait. 30 people or so are in the waiting room with me. Some have been here for 6 hours already when I arrive...

Some are obviously in worse shape than me, but a few seem to be here with just a twisted ankle.

Eventually at 3AM, my name gets called and I see an intern. He doesn't take me seriously and wants to send me home. He tells me almost laughing that it's just a piece of steak and it's not life threatening. They don't perform this kind of operation during the weekend, he tells me to seek a private clinic tomorrow morning. I have to show him that, drinking not even a quarter of a glass of water, I'm choking and have to make myself throw up. I ask him what happens if I go to sleep. He leaves and tells me to wait and he'll see what he can do.

Eventually, he comes back half an hour later, telling me I'm getting transferred to a bigger hospital, that will operate me in the morning. I'm beyond relief ! At 7AM I get transferred by ambulance, they install me in a room with an IV. Finally around 10AM, I'm in the operation room. It's a quick operation they tell me, a fibroscopy, 20mn tops, but still under general anesthesia. This being the first time in my life I'm hospitalized, let alone operated under general anesthesia, I'm not fully reassured, but I'm also tired of not being able to drink or eat anything. They start the anesthesia, and my next memory is waking up, an hour later.

The doctor comes to see me and says everything went well, they removed a 2cm piece of meat, it was difficult because it was really stuck. My wife and kid visited me a couple hours later in my room, which was a big morale boost. I spent another day at the hospital, eating stock soup and yogurts, before going back home. My throat hurt for a couple of days, but I was soon able to eat solid food again, this time being very careful, chewing a lot before swallowing 😅

TL;DR ate a big piece of steak, too fast, without chewing enough, it got stuck in my esophagus, blocking everything even my saliva, had to go to the hospital to get it removed.

I'm currently using a Logitech Harmony hub with two "standard" remotes, with no screens at all and just buttons. I initially had an Elite remote but I hated having to use a touch screen, and one of my gripes with switching to Sofabaton would be to have to go back to a remote with a touch screen. Are there any options for remoes that would work with the hub but have no screens ?

I recently moved, and in the process, one of my remotes got lost, it's nowhere to be found. I know it's in the new apartment somewhere, because it doesn't show as impossible to reach, and it was pressed 4 days after we moved, according to the hue app. I suspect I unpacked it, pressed it to see what it did, then stored it somewhere and forgot about it.

Since it has a wireless connection, is there a way to find it, with a cold/warm estimate of how close to it you are ? It's an old dimmer, it doesn't have bluetooth, just Zigbee.

Hello, je souhaiterais accrocher ma TV (32", 3.3kg) au mur, le problème c'est que le mur en question est en placo (5cm d'épaisseur à priori, si j'en crois les plans).

Est ce que c'est jouable, vu qu'elle ne pèse que 3 kilos, avec un support mural non télescopique, non inclinable, pour éviter un déport qui ajouterait de la charge ? Si quelqu'un a une reco de modèle de support, je suis preneur.

J'ai des chevilles tous matériaux (Fischer DuoPower 5x25 S) que j'ai utilisées pour fixer mes meubles et éviter un basculement, est ce qu'elles feraient l'affaire ? La charge maximale "minimale" affichée suivant les matériaux semble être de 5kg, mais je ne suis pas sûr du matériau représenté.

L'autre jour j'ai fait un plein (Leclerc Orvault à côté de Nantes), SP95 E10, mais dès que j'appuyais à fond, la poignée du pistolet "claquait" comme quand on a rempli le réservoir. J'ai donc dû faire tout le plein en appuyant à 10% de la poignée.

Ensuite, pendant mon trajet (autoroute, Nantes => Paris), en roulant comme j'en ai l'habitude, je consommais 1L/100 de plus que d'habitude. Ça a continué comme ça jusqu'à ce que je vide le réservoir. Dès que j'ai refait le plein, j'ai retrouvé des consos normales.

Vous savez ce qui peut provoquer ça ? Essence coupée avec autre chose ?

I noticed my computer monitors wouldn't go to sleep, they turn off after the amount of time configured, then immediately turn themselves back on.

After some troubleshooting, I found out two devices that were causing problems: a Microsoft keyboard dongle, when plugged in an USB Hub (no issue if I plug it directly, problem solved), and my Asus ProArt Display PA147CDV, which is plugged in USB-C to the motherboard directly. When I unplug it, the main monitor (Samsung Odyssey G9) goes to sleep without an issue.

I went in the device manager but the touch screen already has the option to prevent the device from waking the computer set to disabled.

Any ideas ?
