Is the LIRR station safe at night?

I’m thinking of going to Queens for the 4th July and taking the LIRR from Kew Gardens back to Manhattan sometime after 9pm. Will it be safe?

Update: it was not crowded and I didn’t see any diners from the bar next to it. All the businesses seemed closed. It was kind of desolate but there were people walking down the street. By the time the train came there were about 7 people on the platforms.

Indian clothes from Utsav Fashion

Has anyone had experience with Utsav Fashion website? I would like to know if they really are fast to ship to NYC or not. I did not realize they are shipping from India until after I paid. If you ordered from them, what was your experience and how long did it take to get to NYC?

Vegan economy meal ATH > EWR

Pasta. Couldn’t tell what the filling was so I didn’t want to eat it. Tasted it and it wasn’t that good anyway but I was suspiciously about whether it was vegan or not. The next meal was also a pasta dish with mushroom and something else that I could not make it. I didn’t eat either of them. I just ate the bread, salad and snacks which were quite a lot. Just wish I wasn’t served pasta twice and at least knew what was in them.

Vegan meals on economy

This is one of the vegan meals from EWR to ATH. It’s glass noodles, tofu and vegetables. It was delicious. I could see clearly what was in it but still wish there was an ingredients list.

In the top left corner is a chickpea salad which was good. Then a dessert is right next to it.

Experience using headset

I was recently on a flight from EWR to ATH on emirates. They gave us headsets. The left side of the headset started making a buzzing static kind of sound but I continued to try to use it to listen to music. That was a big mistake. After the plane landed for 2 days my left ear had a funny feeling and hurt a bit. That feeling went away but now it’s been a week and 2 days since this happened but anytime I swallow I hear a sound in my left ear.

I’m very worried that using their headset has left me with some ear damage.

I just read a First Class review that mentioned the headset having a static noise as well so this seems to be happening across all classes.

Be careful and stay away from the headset if it makes weird noises.

Besides that, the flight was good and Emirates Economy feels very luxurious. I had vegan meals and just posted photos of those with reviews in two separate posts.

What should I do with myself while he’s dealing with his family situation?

Hello. My long time partner is 51 years old. He recently found out that his dad has cancer. He is very close to his parents. For months he keeps telling me is he needs space.

We live separately so I can only stay in touch to know how he’s doing. He doesn’t want to talk about it even though his dad is being looked after by the doctors. We are not spending time together and he’s hardly staying in touch with me. Before this happened we stayed in touch all day and night. I feel like this situation with his dad is going to ruin our relationship for good with all this distance. We’ve been together for 10 years and knew each other 10 years before that and dated for a few years early on.

Is this behavior of pushing a distancing normal for men in grief? Anyone with this experience? I’ve been having to learn to stay in touch with my own family and friends when I would usually talk to him and make plans alone which isn’t unusual but just more than usual now. His grief is also triggering mine for my family members I’ve lost and I’m saddened that he is so affected by this. Any advice?

Day trip to Santorini

Many on here said a day trip was not possible but when I went to Greece the people there said the opposite. So I did a day trip. Totally possible and recommended to see if it’s even your cup of tea for a proper vacation before investing time and money.

Get a flight out of Athens in the morning and one late in the day to leave. It’s a very short flight.

For me, Santorini is not worth more than a day trip. It did not scream “great vacation spot”. Some of the views were nice though but the landscape was a turn off.

Greece solo trip

Greece was 100% easy for a solo trip as a female. I was hesitant about doing the trip alone but it was very easy and turned out much better than I could have imagined.

Everyone spoke English and the people are very helpful. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Athens which is pricey but I felt very safe and comfortable.

I did not do a beach trip but focused on the mainland which is much more interesting to me. But if you want to go to the islands that is also very easy. I did a couple of day trips to 2 islands and that was enough for me.

I highly recommend a solo trip to Greece and happy to answer any questions you may have that will help you feel more comfortable to do so.

See my full itinerary here https://www.reddit.com/r/GreeceTravel/s/ryjmGYNUyB but I urge you to do what interests YOU and NOT what people on Reddit say you should do. That led me to wasting a day on Santorini which I did not like immediately upon stepping out of the airport. Follow your true feeling of what you like and want to see/do (not always easy for us ladies, I know).

5 full days in Greece

If you are not looking for a beach vacation but want to learn and see something new this itinerary might help.

I spent 5 full days in Greece. I am so happy I stayed in Athens. Greece has so much more to offer than just islands with beaches. Beaches can be found anywhere in the world but you won’t find the history and mythology of Greece anywhere else and if you do, it will never be told quite the way the Greeks tell it.

Day 1 - booked 2 walking tours: 1) Acropolis, Pantheon and Acropolis museum 2) Philosophy and Democracy tour which included Ancient Agora tho we did not go up to it directly because I think the guide (Panos) is not a registered tour guide. It is still worth it. I booked on Get Your Guide.

Day 2 - Day trip to Hydra which is a beautiful island. Very quaint and relaxing. I would visit this island again.

Day 3 - Day trip to Corinth followed by stroll through Plaka. For Christians Corinth is meaningful. It includes a drive outside of Athens which is beyond beautiful if you appreciate countryside.

Day 4 - Day trip to Santorini. This was meh. Overrated, hot and too many tourists.

Day 5 - National Historical Museum, National Garden and the National Archaeological Museum. More of a chill day in Athens but with plenty walking.

Tips: use the apps for taxis. The taxi drivers even at the hotel will try to hustle. When you use the app, the price is set. I had no problem with the language. Everyone spoke English or at least knew enough to communicate the basics with tourists. I did learn a new words in Greek like “good morning”, “hello” and “thank you”.

Bringing back food to the US

I have 2 types of honey but one bottle contains honeycombs. Think that one will be ok?

I also have olive oil, dried herbs and herbal teas.

My flight is arriving late night and I don’t want to be kept back especially after a long flight. So if any of you had issues with the honeycomb I’ll try to eat it in the next few days while I’m here!!

Education about Bipolar Disorder

Hello everyone. You were so great in my post asking for resources about dementia I thought I’d reach out again and ask about resources for another situation I have to deal with in my family.

Do you have any advice or resources for dealing with a family member with bipolar disorder? Looking for a support group, in person coaching, family education sessions etc. Open to online resources too but would like to engage with other families in person if possible as well. It’s been a lonely experience for my family.

Help for a senior person with dementia

Hi everyone, does anyone know what kind of help is available for seniors with dementia in NYC? We have a family member who has dementia but there is no one to be with him all day and night.

Has anyone handled this with a family member?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: than you all for your responses and well wishes. This was very helpful.

1 month binge free!

My food bill for the last month is much less. I didn’t realize how much money I’ve been wasting on unnecessary food.

Also I’m wondering if it’s a coincidence that I haven’t seen my long time situationship “boyfriend” during that time. I’m starting to think it’s not. I will do some self reflection.

Hello! The reception is at night on a Saturday in June so I have all day to get ready and I think it would be nice to do something special with my hair. My hair goes past my shoulders so I’m thinking there is enough for an updo.

I am wearing a dress.

  1. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hair stylist in Manhattan or Bronx you went to for a decent wedding reception hairstyle? Any photos would help too just to get ideas of what the person may have done with your hair.
  2. If you’d simply like to share a style you like for a wedding reception, I would appreciate that too.
