Is Alastair Familiar with the Infamous Mike Skinner/The Streets Clip?

Is Alastair Familiar with the Infamous Mike Skinner/The Streets Clip?

The famous 'Peter Mandelson went mad in the 80's…' opening to the beginning of a live performance of 'Turn the Page'

I haven't listened to every TRIP episode so maybe it has been referenced. I'd be surprised if someone hadn't shown him over the years.

I see it mentioned every now and then in UK Hip Hop and UK dance/rave music circles. Pretty iconic meme. Of course he's talking about Alastair and the details aren't accurate. But he is saying that you can come back from such tough life experiences as that, and it kind of vibes with the themes of the track.

It's rarely mentioned that he is mistaking Peter Mandelson for Alastair Campbell (in other areas of the internet at least).

Is DJ Beats Based on DJ Slimzee?

Just that after listening to Slimzee on Rinse FM over the years (grime legend / godfather), I've noticed that some of the mannerisms in speech and characteristics from Slimzee's radio sets are caricatured in DJ Beats' character.

Has this ever been commented on before? Or is DJ Beats based on a more archetypal / stereotypical view of UK Garage/Grime DJs from the pirate radio era? (And Slimzee is just the one I'm most familiar with).

Biggie's grandmother is still alive.

If Biggie lived as long as his grandmother, he would've still been alive during the events of Cyberpunk 2077.

Is the Show Easier Now?

Compared to the earlier seasons.

I noticed that half of the rounds offer first and last letters, anagram puzzles, diagrams/images etc. - more clue based than producing your entirely own answer (which is now sometimes just the first round, and the end obviously).

I don't recall this years ago but maybe I am wrong/misremembering.

Are There Many Episodes Where The Chaser Answers All Questions Correctly?

I'm including all the 1 v. 1's and the final chase.

I can't recall seeing this. I think Anne or Mark may have.

What Electronic Music Would You Recommend to the Crew?

I remember on one of the lives a while ago the crew were asked whether they listen to much electronic music, and if so, did they had any favourite albums or artists.

From memory they all said no apart from Beezy who said Detroit Techno and house from that whole scene out there.

Aside from Hip Hop, Electronic Music/Dance Music is probably my favourite genre (probably also being from the UK plays a part). To the other electronic music fans of DEHH:

What albums and artists would you recommend the crew (or individual crew members) try out?

Notable / Famous iNaturalist Users?

Does anyone know of any contributors to iNaturalist that are significant in the academic / scientific world or broader popular culture?

Or of anybody like that who has publicly endorsed / supported iNaturalist?

I've seen this question asked in other subs for Letterboxd, RateYourMusic etc. and a post in this sub about 'ambassadors' so it made me think…

Headz / Headie One (Starr Gang/OFB) - Ah One (2013)

This just came across my YouTube recommended.

Back when Headie One went as 'Headz' and OFB weren't even a thing yet I'm pretty sure.

Decent track. He suits this sort of laidback instrumental. More traditional hip hop.

What Other Media are Rest Is Politics Listeners Consuming?

Alastair and Rory often share and reference news articles they have read and other pieces of media. They even talk about literature, films and music they have recently experienced.

What are viewers / listeners of the pod consuming? Mainly in terms of media that is politics based.

For myself: in terms of day-to-day news I often refer to The Guardian first. Channel 4 News daily hour long programme is by far the best broadcast news.

I regularly read The New Statesman and listen to their podcast. Before Gove become editor I was listening to Coffee House Shots most days and would occasionally read The Spectator. Novara Media sometimes. Their 'Downstream' interviews are always interesting.

What Year Was the Peak of UK Hip Hop?

Saw this question asked to an American hip hop show a while ago (shoutout Dead Hip Hop) and it left me wondering about the UK Scene.

I'm struggling for an answer off the top of my head.

General Advice For Self-Improving Naturalists

What advice do you have for any aspiring naturalists.

I have been using the app for almost a year and I love it but many of the accounts I have browsed which have many observations and IDs, half the time come with a description that they are studying Zoology or are a PhD student.

What pointers does anyone with long-term experience using the app, or studying the natural world have for me. In finding more observations, understanding the basics of the natural world, just anything really. I am curious.

Thanks.

What Other Film Podcasts Do You Guys Listen To?

Aside from FPS I used to listen to 'Kermode & Mayo', (the official BBC film review) every week. Shoutout to any other UK listeners… and Jason Isaacs. Kermode has a PhD in film and has a crazy range for film knowledge and references, he's a certified oldhead. Good banter between hosts.

I would also recommend 'Eli Roth’s History of Horror' for some great conversations with modern directors.

'Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein' has a fun interview style. Discussing personal attachments to different films with directors, actors, comedians etc.

Screenshot is another interesting Kermode pod, hosts track the history of a certain theme for 1 hour throughout film (eps on Vampires, Death, Yuppies etc.).

For the Oldheads: What Were Your Favourite Music Publications?

When I was first taking an active interest in music (around 12-14 years old) the weekly edition of the NME magazine played a pivotal role. Especially their '500 Greatest Albums of all Time' list released in 2013, I worked my way through most of it (this coupled with finding Fantano's channel a little later helped me discover a lot more music).

It seems though I was part of the last generation (2010's) of young music fans to invest in music publications.

For the oldheads on the sub (anyone above the age of 23 or so): what were your favourite music magazines? Do you have any special personal memories? Have you retained any interesting information about specific artists? NME used to have some juicy interviews.

Which of the Crew's Hip Hop Taste Do You Most Align With?

Or who do you note vibe with at all?

If you've been watching for a few years you'll have an idea of each members hip hop tastes.

For myself Beezy is a good middle ground between Myke's most experimental and lyrical stuff and Feefo's more mainstream tastes. He seems to have the broadest range covering both ends, but if the crew are reading this they may disagree. Kinge seems most willing to listen to anything though.
