Top 15 Underrated Boy Band Members. No.7: Randy Jackson (The Jacksons/ Jackson 5)

Randy joined the group after Jermaine left, during the second half of their career, and I think he proved himself despite being the youngest member. He brought a different energy and stage presence to the group, and during the Jacksons era, he became pretty much the second most prominent member after Michael.

Vocally, I'd put him third after Michael and Jermaine. His solo career never really took off, and like most of his brothers, he ended up being overshadowed by Michael and Janet's massive success.

Randy doesn't seem to get much love these days, but I think his contribution to the group deserves more recognition. His presence was important, especially on songs like Can You Feel It and the politically charged Man of War. He wasn't just the younger brother who joined later; he became a meaningful part of the group's later sound and identity.

Top 15 Underrated Boy Band members.. No 8. Scott Robinson (Five)

Scott has one of the sweetest voices in Five, at least during their heyday. He and Ritchie were often the ones handling the ballads and softer, more romantic songs, although Scott never quite had the same level of popularity as Jay or Ritchie.

Songs like Until the Time Is Through, Invincible and You Make Me a Better Man are great examples of how well he could shine vocally.

I also think his contribution to the often-forgotten three-member era deserves more recognition. He took on some of the rap parts, and during live shows before Jay and Abz returned, he stepped in to cover parts that were usually associated with them.

Scott might have a decent fanbase among Five fans, but I still think there's more to appreciate about him than people usually give him credit for. He was an important part of the group's sound, especially when it came to the softer songs.

Top 10 underrated boy band members: No. 9 Jonathan knight (New Kids on the Block)

Let's be honest, NKOTB has always felt like the Jordan, Donnie and Joey show, but I think Jonathan deserves more credit than he usually gets, especially since the group's comeback in 2008.

He's the quiet one, partly because of his struggles with anxiety, and he's definitely not the loudest or most noticeable member. But I personally think he's more talented than Danny Wood, and his vocals deserve more appreciation.

Songs like Survive You, Happy Birthday, Better Days and White Christmas are good examples of what he can bring to the group. Even on songs where his parts are relatively small, like Step by Step, I think his contribution matters.

Jonathan is more than just the older brother of the lead singer who happened to join the group because of that connection. He's an important part of NKOTB in his own right, and I think his role in the group deserves more recognition.

Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.10 Anthony Costa (Blue)

One thing I always liked about Blue is that all four members actually sang. But I think the attention was naturally divided in a way that left Anthony Costa a bit overlooked.

Lee had the big voice and the bad-boy image, Duncan had the looks and the whole Brad Pitt comparison, and Simon had that more serious, grounded personality and often came across as the one who helped keep the group together.

Anthony wasn't necessarily the strongest vocalist or the most charismatic member, but he had more of a "boy next door" personality. He also didn't get the same attention for his looks, and unfortunately his appearance was sometimes discussed more than his actual contribution.

But vocally, I think Anthony played — and still plays — an important part in Blue's sound and dynamics. He's also naturally funny and brings a different energy to interviews and appearances.

A song that always comes to mind is "Just A Friend" from One Love. It's pretty underrated, and Anthony handles most of the vocals on it. I think songs like that show why he was more important to Blue than people sometimes give him credit for.

Top 15 underrated boy band members No.11 Bruce Johnstone (The Beach Boys

First of all, I know there’s always a debate over whether The Beach Boys should even count as a boy band. Mods, please don’t remove this post because of that 😂 I’m trying to keep the list intact.

Bruce joined the group more than five years after they started, but I think he left a much bigger mark than he usually gets credit for. He brought some fresh ideas and a different energy to the group, and eventually proved himself enough to become a full sixth member rather than simply replacing someone in the lineup.

Vocally, I really like what he added on songs like Tears in the Morning. He also contributed instrumental tracks, and on the later albums he became much more involved vocally as well as in production.

He may not be the first name people mention when they talk about The Beach Boys, but I think his contribution to the group deserves much more recognition.

Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.12 Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees)

Jeff Timmons was basically the second most prominent member of 98 Degrees after Nick Lachey, but I still think he doesn't get enough credit for what he brought to the group.

For me, he was a much stronger vocalist than Justin and Drew, and his voice added a lot to the group's sound. Nick was obviously the face and the main focus, but Jeff was an important part of why 98 Degrees worked vocally.

I think he deserves more recognition when people look back at the group and talk about their individual members.

Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.13 Mikey Graham (Boyzone)

I know a lot of people might disagree with me on this, but I honestly think Mikey had the third strongest voice in Boyzone, after Ronan and Stephen. After Stephen passed away, I think Mikey became even more important vocally and was basically the co-lead vocalist

And you can remember A song from Where We Are album: Good Conversation which was sung entirely by him

He may not have had the same charisma or personality as Ronan or Shane, but I think his presence added something to Boyzone. You could actually notice his absence during some parts of their more recent shows.

I don't think Mikey gets enough credit for what he brought to the group. I genuinely hope he has a peaceful life and that things are going well for him

Top 15 underrated boy band members.. No 14. J Boog (B2K)

J-Boog — B2K

I always thought Jarell Houston was underrated in B2K. He's got a good voice and a really strong stage presence, especially alongside Raz-B. The group was obviously built around Omarion, with Fizz getting some attention too, so Boog often felt like he was somewhere in the background.

But I think he's actually a really solid member, and probably my favorite after Omarion. I also like that with their recent comeback, they finally have a new album after 23 years, and it feels like all four members are getting a much more equal chance to sing and be heard. It's nice to see Boog getting more of that space now.

Top 15 underrated boy band members.. No. 15 Mark Read (A1)

Mark Read — A1

For me, Mark had the best voice in A1. One of the things I liked about the group was that all four members actually got to sing, rather than having one main vocalist while everyone else just stood in the background.

Mark was genuinely talented, and I still think he sounds great even today. He also plays keyboards during their live shows, which is another thing people don't really talk about.

I think a lot of the audience naturally focused more on Ben Adams because he was the more popular and conventionally attractive member, but Mark's actual talent deserves way more recognition. He was probably one of the most underrated members of the group

Stay tuned for no.14

Most forgottable boy band members?

You know that one member in almost every boy band who feels like he’s just… there?

Like, he doesn’t necessarily add much to the group and sometimes feels like a filler member.

I don’t mean that in a shady way, though. I think in a lot of cases it was more about management and how the media chose to focus heavily on one or two members, while the others barely got the same attention.

Who do you think fits this description, and why?

And which boy bands do you think had that rare case where every single member actually mattered and brought something important to the group?

Look at Your Hands

Hey there, I'm A Die Hard GM fan and every time I listen to the Faith album, the song "Look at Your Hands" takes my attention.. it's so fun and the production was soooo late 80s + I really connect to the lyrics

Never knew why he never performed it live especially in the Faith tour + I know it wasn't written by him so it sounds different and I've read once someone saying that it's his most (heterosexual) song lol

Boy band members who can't stand each other

Which boy band members (from the same band) who had different type of personalities or just couldn't get along on the long run

I know about Mikey Graham in Boyzone who didn't take to Shane Lynch for long and in the break up in 2019 he had big fight with Keith and till this day they don't talk

And from The OG boy bands I'd love to mention The Monkees (whom I love and listen to A lot)

After Peter Tork died, Member Mike Nesmith revealed that they never liked each other but he broke down in tears after knowing about his passing

Romantic ballads by Five

Hey everyone, Five fan here

I like their music and their non-generic boy band style back in the day and now

I love when they did some romantic ballads songs in their albums.. some which is mostly was made by Westlife and Boyzone like.. Until the time is through, Closer to me, You make me A better man and Invincible which is my favorite.. Most of those songs were Scott and Ritchie centered

I have A very soft spot for romantic ballads and Five didn't do them A lot but when they do, it was outstanding

Who Needs you: song discussion

One of my favorites by them, and also one of the more rarely discussed or performed live songs in their catalog, is the acoustic ballad “Who Needs You” from News of the World.

It’s a soft, romantic ballad that tells the story of someone who gave so much to another person, only to realize that their love and effort weren’t being returned, and that the other person had taken their love for granted.

Freddie sang it in a different style from what you’d normally expect from him, and the song was written by John. Brian, however, did a great job with the guitar work, which really adds to the song’s gentle acoustic feel

Plus : I actually relate to the song about something happened in one of my past relationships
