you are not entitled to have your beliefs respected

I think there is an important distinction that should be made between opinions and beliefs. An opinion is just a matter of taste or a difference in style, preference not an observation, but I feel like people conflate these two and whenever they get called out for having poor observations that aren’t rooted all the way in reality. Then they hide behind the word “opinion” as if it validates them all of a sudden.

there are beliefs that can be objectively wrong and if you hold those beliefs, taking a position that you’re just being picked on we’re trying to frame it as if the other person just can’t accept differences of opinions is intellectual cowardice. For example this is commonly what conservatives/Alt right always say about the left that they just can’t stand people having different opinions from them.

A difference of opinion would be like somebody preferring Star Trek over Star Wars, liking ketchup on your fries, or not liking ketchup at all, preferring blue over yellow.
White supremacy is not an opinion and I don’t have to respect your beliefs or worldview if they are rooted in that
The Earth being flat is not an opinion it is an objectively wrong belief, and I don’t have to respect the fact that it is what you truly believe.

Your religious beliefs are not entitled to respect nor is your politics, or analysis of the world around you because those things can all be objectively wrong.
and I already know some smart ass is probably gonna point out that even this post that I’m making about my belief is not entitled to respect and I agree it’s not… I’m totally OK with, and open to being wrong if somebody can soundly poke any holes in my post.

Dr. Rhythm DR-670

I picked up this DR670 yesterday on OfferUp for about $50. It’s a funny little Calculator looking device and very primitive but it has a few features that are a little surprising to see like velocity sensitive pads, and it has a fill button which automatically creates a drum fill using sounds from whatever bank you have selected. There’s 400 drum banks and some bass sounds as well, I don’t think I would ever need a drum pack again after this. I’m gonna load up some of the sounds onto the 404SX and experiment. Might fuck around and drop a drum pack of my own.

Snare Rolls

i’ve been trying to look up videos and tutorials on how I can make a snare roll. Not something trap or contemporary sounding I’m trying to make a sound like a real drummer doing a snare roll but I can’t figure out how to get the sound I want does anyone have any tips?

Best Slicing Technique For The SX?

I usually make all of my beats on the MPC live 2 but I wanna take a break and really learn how to do some beats on the SX. I’ve given it a couple of tries with no success and the biggest headache for me is Sample slicing. On the MPC I usually chop everything into 1/4 notes but with the way that slicing works on the SX I don’t think that’s really the best route to take. What would be a better way to slice my samples with this device?

What’s Your Take On Rich Amiri XXL Critique?

I don't know if anybody already posted about this my bad if that is the case.
I was curious on what people thought of this.
There is a part of me that does kind of agree with what he's saying I think that XXL should want to evolve it it's platform because it seems like people are less and less interested in the freshman class as the years go on I haven't paid attention to the freshman class since 2018.
but it also kind of feels like he's advocating for a standard to be lowered. I was under the impression that most of the freestyles and the cypher wasn't off the top genuine freestyle anyway. you mean to tell me these artists can at least bring a decent written that they have memorized to the cypher? I want to say Trippie Redd turned down an appearance at the cypher despite being on the freshman list that year, his excuse being the beat was probably gonna be trash or something ridiculous like that and I think he's not the only artist in recent years that has No showed.
it's like asking to take grappling out UFC because most fighters are winning based off of their striking ability anyway (I don't know if that's really the case.
It's just an example.) it wouldn't really be UFC anymore It would just be kickboxing. If your main appeal as an artist is your melodies and not your rapping ability, then I think that's a good indicator.
You're not a rapper You're a singer.
call me an old head for this take, I don't really care if you can't freestyle then maybe you shouldn't be featured on a hip-hop magazine.

People should really expand their music tastes.

I hope this doesn’t really count as political post because I make a comparison mentioning online music/politics discourse but anyways here’s my take with a little backstory for context.

I saw a post on Instagram about Westside gunn. I’ve been listening to Westside Gunn since about 2019 and he’s one of my favorite artists out right now. The post was addressing rumors that he supposedly buys his own albums in order to drive up the value.

Somebody commented on the post “this guy is everywhere. He has to be a plant.”
It came off to me as really out of touch. But it also got me thinking about the similarities between online music and political discourse.

The instant access that the Internet provides along with social media algorithms have done irreversible damage to people’s taste, media literacy, and their openness to experiencing new things or outside perspectives providing them an echo chamber. In music, it would be a handful of your favorite artists and your preferred genre. Unless you manually step outside of that echo chamber, then you’ll never hear anything new. With as much as I see people online try to discredit other artists by saying they’ve “never heard of them” and acting like their taste is so top-tier that anything they haven’t heard of must be garbage it leads me to believe that most casual music listeners just listen to the same handful of stuff over and over again and that’s wild to me

Rapper Tier List

I limited myself to six rappers per category because there was a lot of rappers for this tier list.

Edit: I see a lot of people are really going at my neck for this list lol but maybe I should’ve specified that I placed the artists where I did based off of their discography/output and not their rapping ability. Hope that helps.

Most Satisfying Deaths

I saw a video on Instagram of a guy talking about what he thought was the most satisfying deaths on the show so I figured I’d ask here. Out of everyone for me it was Phil Leotardo. I couldn’t stand that guy.

Bands Similar To Last Days Of Humanity

like to think that my music taste is pretty diverse but the primary genres I listen to most are probably
R&B and hip-hop. For whatever reason I've been really into this band lately called “last days of humanity” the music is just so over the top, their song titles are hilariously vulgar I don't know how to describe it It's like super try hard but in a good and charming way maybe that's on purpose. either way I'm looking for band suggestions similar to them shit that’s just borderline noise

AJs Character

I think AJ has become one of my favorite characters along with Chris. Not because of his personality I think he’s an unbearable little shit who would probably be an Incel groyper in 2026, but for whatever reason, his arc in the show is one of my favorites. I think that he has the most development out of almost anybody in the show(aside from meadow) when he is convinced NOT to join the military and they get him a job with the film production company I was really heartbroken. A opportunity for some sort of personal growth was completely squandered away by his own parents. sounds strange, but even though I dislike the personality of the character, I enjoy the development of his character as a narrative.

Flying Lotus

i’ve always been an admirer of flying lotus’ production. i’ve always wanted to make some of my own beats in a similar style, but I think the hardest part for me is nailing the swing and sound selection for the drums, I usually just Sample drum brakes from records or if I’m programming my own drums it’s for more modern sounding beats. does anyone have any tips or techniques they could share? Even if it’s not for drums I’ll also take some advice on what type of samples I should dig for or what the best type of presets/sounds to use as well. For reference, I usually make all of my beats on my MPC live 2, paired with my 404 SX, but I do also have FL studio.

808 Kick Effect

I saw a video. I don’t remember if it was on Instagram or YouTube, but I’m trying to remember exactly what this guy did. He took a random 808 from one of his Sample packs and did something in the instrument settings envelope to make it sound like it was already a kick and 808 I’m sitting here trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do to get the same effect with no luck. If anyone else has seen or knows what I’m talking about let me know.

SP404 SX Master Compressor On Beat

I recently made a beat on my MPC and routed it through my 404 SX using the compressor to master. While I do like the results and it did glue everything together the way I like I’m a little worried now that if I try to record over it or let another artist use it once it comes time to mix the vocals it’s gonna be too much compression. Is this something I should go back and tweak or am I just overthinking it?
