Early American dryer coin

Early American dryer coin

Some have asked about very worn coins and odd wear patterns--these are known as "dryer coins". They get stuck in a clothes dryer and become worn out.

This photo illustrates how this coin probably accumulated its weathering and wear by getting stuck on an early clothes dryer.

Lowball of the day: 1795 Cent

I'm slowly building my lowball type set. This one recently returned from PCGS and filled my slot for Liberty Cap Cent (denticled border).

I wonder how much bread, cheese, and ale this has purchased through the centuries? 🤔

Rotated die

Found this roll hunting today.

I put it in a (badly) marked up flip so I could try to understand how much rotation there is. Is this outside of mint tolerance?

Finally trying out the perch

This guy has been using my feeder for weeks, but always stays airborne. This video catches the first time he felt comfortable enough to try out the perch!

The video I got after this he was sitting again, so I think he likes it

Dang it

Finally got a Loomis box with all new quarters and they're not Declaration of Independence. Box is stamped July 14

What do you do with uncirculated finds?

I found this nice looking 1979 quarter, has some toning and looks basically mint except for a scuff on Washington's cheek.

Feels wrong to throw it back but I also don't have room to store every mildly interesting coin I find

Anniversary gift from my wife

From the year we were married (using FeelsLike™ date versus measured)

She asked if it was ok and of course I said you can't go wrong with coins! Especially silver ones

End of an era

I can no longer say I've only found bat W's. It was a good streak of 5 2020-W American Samoas, but now I have found a different W.

Not a total skunking

Dull silver quarter, a couple proofs, and some minor errors (not pictured)

Moxie on Mt Webster

My son and I hiked Mt Webster and Mt Jackson this week in the White Mountains in NH. Of course we took a couple Moxies with us to enjoy on the summit!

Spitting eagle and another 1983-P die clash

I found this faint and well-circulated spitting eagle die clash in a bank roll. Then I found another in the next roll, but it's not the spitting eagle variety. The details are not aligned in quite the same way.

I think I just found a spitting eagle

The throat clash / spit is faint, but visible. And the line from the ponytail is on the right wing

Cheat sheet I've been taking around to banks to assist my questions

I've visited 14 branches across 9 different banks in the last week. The consensus from every one is:

Yes, I need an account to order coin.

No, none of their boxes look like the the first type, they are all the second type (no peeking).

No, they have not seen any of the new quarters as roll enders yet. Some tellers guessed we are weeks or months out from seeing any at all based on their experience.
