Yoga's claim to antiquity - true or not? How ancient is modern posture based yoga? (Traditional vs western yoga)

So I used to think (based on what people told me) that yoga is a thousand years old spiritual tradition coming from Indian land, and that very recently (100-150 years???) the westerners got to know about it and started doing it. However, the westerners "appropriated" the original yoga, and added their own flavors into it, and ripped it away from its spiritual root. That the western yoga only (or mostly) focuses on the asana (exercise part), while leaving everything else behind.

However, reading up on it, I am getting a different scenario. Yes, it is true that yoga as a spiritual tradition is indeed thousands of years old, originating in Indian subcontinent. However the "traditional yoga" is very different to the yoga that is practiced today, not just in the west, but also in India. The traditional yoga was mostly a spiritual practice -- it had 8 limbs, each connected with leading a spiritual life. Asana was only 1 part of it. But also, the asana most likely referred to the cross-legged seated position, which would assist the body and mind to calm down, which was needed for intense and prolonged period of meditation (which was the main goal). The purpose of asana was to calm the body and mind to help assist with meditation. In fact, asana literally means "sit" in Sanskrit. The type of "exercise type asana" we see in modern day yoga was not a part of the thousand year old tradition. Some body contortions may have been there, but it was most likely not done in the flow/vinyasa type style it is practiced today.

So "modern day yoga-as-exercise" and "traditional yoga as a spiritual discipline" are very different things. Mark Singleton's Yoga Body: The Origins of Modern Posture Practice argues that modern postural yoga was influenced by British calisthenics and Swedish gymnastics. I've also come across similar accounts elsewhere.

Anyone knowledgeable on history and this issue, care to shed light on this?

Just started Wellbutrin (while already on Mirtazapine for 16 years)

So I have been on Mirtazapine for 16 years now, on various doses, from 7.5 mg to 30 mg. Currently on 22.5 mg for more than a year.

It does work moderately well for depression and sleep (used to be much more effective before) but I have zero motivation or drive to do anything. Zero motivation, drive, energy, feel sluggish and slow all day. So my doctor prescribed Wellbutrin 100 mg extended release every morning.

Only 2 days on it. I felt a bit more upbeat on it but I guess it could be placebo as it's not even 2 days and it takes 2-4 weeks to have any effect.

Just wanted some advice on how I am expected to feel on it. Has anyone taken it with Mirtazapine? how does it work etc.

Anyone live in Aggie Village Cottonwood/Walnut/Lodgepool?

So I got a room allotted for this year (August 2026 - May 2027) in Aggie Village Cottonwood. However, as far as I know, entering the premise right now is not possible, so I can't check how they look. There are 3D renderings but I don't know how accurate they are. Has anyone lived in either Aggie Village Cottonwood or Walnut or Lodgepole? How does the interior look, esp. the bedrooms? I took the 3 bedroom apartment.

Does anyone have pictures they can share here?

Confusion over X Files’s popularity and its low Nielsen ratings

I was less than a year old when X Files started, but I do remember how popular the show was — at least I have some memories of it from late 90s.

However when I look at the Nielsen ratings, it doesn’t seem all that great. Season 1 was like 102 out of 120 shows or something — basically at the very bottom, and I’m glad it wasn’t cancelled (imagine!).

The X Files phenomenon had already started by mid season 2, but even the ratings of season 2 and 3 were not stellar. S2 was in top 60, while s3 was in top 50. Season 4-6 did better (in top 20) but never once did this show come in top 10. Season 7 and 8 did fairly well as well (in top 30).

Overall, given how popular X Files was, I expected the show to have better ratings. Esp 1-3 had pretty low ratings but the show was already hugely popular and a worldwide phenomenon, but the Nielsen ratings don’t reflect that.

Can someone explain the conundrum of how XF was so popular despite having such low/mediocre ratings?

Is this dog art doll realistic enough?

What about the straight line in the middle where the color changes drastically? Are there dogs like that?

Pets - like them? Have them?

Do you have a pet or want to have a pet? if yes what are your favorite pet animals? I love cats and dogs, only managed to have cats in Bangladesh but never dog. I would love to have dog someday. I currently reside in USA, but can't really afford to have a pet nor would my landlord agree. But would love to have dogs someday.

Bipasha Hayat or Shomi Kaiser

Who was the bigger star between them? Who was the better actress according to you? Who was liked more by audience?

I personally think Bipasha was the better actress, though Shomi was slightly more versatile. I personally like them both immensely, if I have to choose maybe Bipasha by a hair.

Cinematography of the revival was terrible

There was so much wrong with the revival and it's understandable tbh ... When you jumpstart a show after 10+ years. But my god, the worst thing was the cinematography. It looked like a heap soap opera. Original XF had one of the best cinematography I'd ever seen, and the revival was just meh.
