Optimal DVD Drive + Software

I have been Plexing for about three years now and my DVD reader is no longer reliable so I’m in the market for a new one, I’m not sure if the machine was on the way out already but a lot of Disney Blu-ray DVDs weren’t scanning and the disks physically were fine. I realize this could also be a software issue, but I don’t know the depths of how all this works (go easy on me I’m just curious).

Is there a DVD drive that’s best for uploading movies or one you prefer, I have a couple of 4k DVD options should I get a UHD Drive or just settle with Blu-ray? Also is there a better more reliable software than MakeMKV, let me know.

I am running off a MacBook M4 Max, uploading to a 48 TB NAS, and usually use MakeMKV & Handbrake

Pyxis 12k Battery Consumption

I’m looking to get a Pyxis 12k and some V-Mount batteries for it, let me know what you guys found with battery life.

I’d probably be looking at a 99Wh Smallrig (VB99 Pro) actually most likely 2 of them. I’d be shooting primarily at 24fps 8k Open Gate 8:1.

Let me know what you guys shoot and how much battery life you get out of yours.

[I’ll take name suggestions] - Pentax K1000 | 50mm f/2 | Kodak TMax 400 | Self portrait

Self portrait of laying down on a mirror with about a 1/4” of still water sitting on it. This was kinda confusing to pull off, let me know if you have any questions. This is a scan I intend to make enlargements.

Where do you buy film in Atlanta

I went to a nice place called PPR a couple years back and now I find they closed their doors. B&H shipping is stupid expensive for what ur ordering. I just want a store I can physically walk into and buy Kodak T-Max, Portra, Pan F 50 etc {35mm 120mm}. Does anyone in Atlanta have a place, everywhere I search up just brings up scanning services.

(Extra points if they sell chemistry)

Flash sync speed for S-Planar Leaf Shutter

I may be an idiot but I can’t find a clear answer anywhere. I have a 120mm F/5.6 s-planar for my Hasselblad 500C, and I have a Godox V1 Pro flash on a cold shoe with a PC Port. What is the flash sync for this lens, it’s a leaf shutter.

Do you guys expose for highlights, mid-grey, or shadows

I know mid-grey is usually the correct answer, which I do when using a 1° spot meter, but when metering things using my Pentax K1000 if it is a drastic difference in light I’ll meter for the shadows every time. What do you guys find yourself doing?

Rolling picture on Camcorder

I posted this on r/camcorder before and no one really knew what was going on but I’ve seen CRTs do this and wondering if there’s a crossover you guys can maybe help me identify the problem.

I just bought a Panasonic PV-420D VHS camcorder and off that bat the picture of the EVF is extremely wiggly and when it records to tape it records the wiggling too. I am using a VHS that was originally in a VCR till 2003 but when I playback the recording the viewfinder looks completely fine, even when I recorded the new footage over existing ones it was only wiggling on the playback of the new footage. I’ve tried it with the new battery and plugged into the wall. The only thing that makes it go away is lower light, in the video I turn on high shutter speed and it goes away completely, same for if I’m in a dimly lit room. Any help on what is going on here would be greatly appreciated!

First photo is the wiggling, second is with high speed shutter turned on, third is playback being normal

It came to me in a dream - JOI Juice

I’m just gonna put this as NSFW due to the subject matter. It’s a cocktail juice you’re supposed to mix into alcohol I think- I spent hours making this mockup. To my knowledge it doesn’t help with anything sexual; however, when designing the drink in the awoken world I added Horny Goat Weed extract (in theory)

Here’s my idea of what the recipe would be (not endorsing anyone to make it)

Water
Cane sugar
Cherry Concentrate
Lime juice
Lemon juice
Hibiscus Tea
Horny Goat Weed Extract
Xanthan gum
Sodium Benzoate
Zinc Supplement

Every person I’ve showed this to wanted to invest

I am strongly considering investing in the Pyxis 12k and do not have any cine lenses at all, however I do have some professional photography lenses (Canon EF 35 f1.4, 85 f1.2). They do not have an external aperture ring, so will the Pyxis be able to adjust the aperture via the UI? I am intending to get the EF mount.

My other ways of getting glass would be to invest in vintage glass (the iconic Helios 44-2 and others) fitted with adapters and FF gears. What is the consensus on those lenses? I know people love them due to cost and imperfections, but in reality is the sharpness and contrast doing the camera justice or is there a lot of post leg work to go into it? Also how do we feel about the anamorphic mods?
