Are cheap knives worth having

I have a range of $80 to $300 CAD knives, fixed and folders all 3" to 6", with a katana on the way.

There are large 4", 5.5" and 5.75" for $20-$50 from united cutlery.

They don't look too different from some more expensive liner locks, but the steel is most likely 3cr13.

So how bad is that? Would it cut up one box and need sharpening?

Most of my knives are just box cutters. Package openers. Sometimes I cut up roots in the woods.

I'm starting to wonder why I don't just EDC my kobun or if I need a lock stronger than a liner.

Are there military looking knives like this in 14C? Large folders like the voyager XL in the $100 range?

I got a Civivi today

It blew me away. When I got the chop it was like oh cool... bit heavy, but I love the theme. The Shard (got it on the 28th) doesn't feel quite as refined as either, but the civivi? Wow!! It explodes out of the handle and has a more satisfying click, it's massive, and it's the only knife that's sharp enough to do S-shapes in paper out of the box, but all 3 do cut paper. It's somehow lighter feeling than both the shard and chop. Probably the prettiest thing I've seen since I started.
