Windshields are my highest cost per mile
A not so serious cost of ownership post after 3 years and 30k miles:
| Cost | Cost/Year | Cost/Mile | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charging | $2,270 | $757 | $0.08 |
| Tires | $2,130 | $710 | $0.07 |
| Windshields | $3,300 | $1,100 | $0.11 |
Knowns and assumptions:
Charging assumed the total KWh consumed by the truck in its life muliplied by my local retail rated. I then added $500 for fast charging expenses as a quick SWAG after checking some past charges.
Tires are Toyo A/T III EVs, that I only put on 2500 miles ago, so their cost per mile should go down dramatically since they have a 50k warranty.
I've had my windshield replaced twice. It cost nearly 1800 when done by Rivian and a little over 1500 when done by Safelite. One crack happened on the highway and the other when I driving on some gravel roads regularly for a few days.
Anyway, if the truck was gas and got 15 mpg (a decent estimate for a 7,000 lb vehicle) and gas averaged $3/gallon, I would have paid $6,000 on fuel alone, plus had 4-6 oil changes for another few hundred bucks.
