I need to upgrade my motherboard for my Unraid system. Any useful hints before doing it?

I read that the array uses HDD serial numbers so it should be pretty easy but I just want to make sure I don't lose anything.

No pool/cache. Only an array of 9 HDD with a few dockers.

Will the array be exactly the same after boot or I need to reassign disk or IDK?

I’m currently running an old DS916+. It has served me well for years, but it’s getting pretty slow and I’m now on my third PSU... I also have an external expansion bay (DX517, which is not compatible with newer models...).

I'm thinking about the DS1825+ so I could use most of the disks of my DX517 in it.

Yes, they backed off the HDD lock-in on newer models, which is good and honestly, it's not the main reason. Their rollback is enough for me.

BUT, for example, you still can’t officially use third-party NVMe drives for storage/cache. I don't use/need it right now but you never know.

There’s also basically no sign of DSM 8, and Synology seems to be moving more and more toward business/enterprise customers.

So I stay with them or move for something like Unraid on custom PC or on Ugreen DXP...

But DSM is DSM and it's the best IMO.

I'm lost lol. What do you think about all this?

So I’m thinking about migrating from my old Ds916 to something newer.

Form factor is really important to me. I read about installing unraid on a Ugreen DXP or Terramaster f6-424.

Is one of them more stable with unraid ? Stability is my number one priority with a robust file system.

Also, the reason I’m looking at unraid is because I use SHR on synology and not much system seems to support mix and match hard drives (I usually upgrade my hdd over time and SHR gives me the possibility to use all the space)

But from I found, writing performance is bad. Not that I need super fast storage but it seems super slow.

So I suppose I need nvme cache ton speed up all this?

I have an older Synology DS916+ that has been running 24/7 for years.

Yesterday, DSM reported:

“abnormal power failure” on Drive 3

Shortly after that, my RAID 5 storage pool became degraded and Drive 3 was dropped from the array.

At first I assumed the HDD itself had failed, but now I’m wondering if the drive might actually be fine and the problem could be the aging power adapter or possibly bay/slot 3 on the DS916+.

I connected the disk to my PC and used Kitfox (WD debug tool) and all reports are good.

Right now my NAS is shutdown. I did a RMA for the HDD (which I'm not sure is necessary anymore...) and ordered a new PSU. Just to be sure.

What do you think?

My DS916+ is getting pretty old (another dead PSU...third time) and I’m starting to think about replacing it before it dies completely. I’d like the upgrade to be as painless as possible, ideally just moving my existing drives to the new NAS and letting DSM handle the migration.

I’m considering the DS925+. Is it a good replacement for the DS916+ for this kind of migration?

I’m also a bit confused about the current third-party drive situation. I’m using Western Digital drives and I know Synology was restricting non-Synology drives on the 2025 Plus models at launch. Has this basically been resolved with newer DSM versions? Can I safely move my existing WD drives into a DS925+ and continue using/replacing them with WD drives in the future?

Any downsides or things I should know before going from a DS916+ to a DS925+?

Any other models you recommend? This price jump is insane right now and a DS925+ is pretty much what I can afford but don't hesitate to recommend anything (synology only, don't have time to migrate to another platform right now).

I had an old Lenovo tablet running fully kiosk with my HA dashboard and it was very slow.

So I bought a Samsung galaxy tab A11+ running the same dashboard in Fully kiosk.

But the problem stays the same, over days, the dashboard becomes slow when it refreshes, sometime it takes almost 10 seconds.

I kill fully kiosk and restart it and it becomes fast again.

Do you have hints for settings in fully kiosk or Android to change so it becomes faster all the time?

What do you do besides settings? Automatic reboot? I'm open to anything.

Hi everyone,
Since the fall of 2025, I’ve been having episodes of eye irritation and blurry vision. After seeing an optometrist, I was diagnosed with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) caused by ocular rosacea.

I underwent IPL and LipiFlow treatments, and they worked really well—I was symptom-free for about five months. Unfortunately, my symptoms have now started coming back.

I have another IPL session scheduled for next Tuesday.

I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences.
Should I see an ophthalmologist?

Are there any other treatments that have worked well for you?

What tends to trigger your flare-ups? I can’t seem to figure mine out. I can go for weeks feeling completely fine, and then, completely randomly in the middle of the day, my eyes suddenly become irritated and my vision gets blurry.

The IPL treatments are also quite expensive…

My Encode Plus is configured with both Thread and wifi (homekit and the app).

Obviously, the batteries don’t last long.

Ineas thinking about resetting it and adding it directly to HomeKit so that the wifi is disabled.

Anyone did this? How long do batteries last with thread only?
