Finished building the “Khanite Shadow Coven” Spearhead

What a super fun build. Was definitely getting a bit tired of it by the 10th SoS but the rest was super fun and the whole thing wasn’t too hard. Was my first time building with glue/cement and not snap together pieces, learned a ton in the process.

Have to admit I blushed a couple times too while working out the finer connections on their pelvic and sternum areas 😳

Why did they stop making these?!

I remembered seeing one of these on the shelf at the Warhammer store and thinking it was such a good idea. Started assembling a full Spearhead army and decided it was worth the expense. Called the local store and they not only didn’t have any left, the guy said they didn’t even have it in their computer anymore. I had to order one from a hobby shop in a neighbouring city.

It’s so incredibly handy! It’s not like it’s hundreds of dollars and the arms are really versatile and bend however you want them to. Love it.

Side note: I think I’m getting addicted to the fumes that come off of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.

Khanite Shadow Coven Spearhead - Dark Elves Transfer Sheet?

Hi everyone. My son recently purchased the Khanite Shadow Coven spearhead, and the instructions say there should be a Dark Elves Transfer Sheet inside, but there is not. Called Warhammer Store and they said it had to be a misprint and leftover from an Old World set cause there are no dark elves in AoS. There’s nothing in the instructions about applying them either so I’m inclined to think they are right. Has anyone else bought this spearhead and did yours come with the transfer sheet? I’d love to have it for kitbashing even if it doesn’t fit with the spearhead.

Short clip from Calgary show

One of my fav songs. I’m not big into recording video at shows but wanted to capture a bit.

"doug." were incredible!

The band that opened for Pretty Reckless last night, "doug.", is a phenomenal band and was the perfect start to the show. Too bad their set was so short. Squeezing Paris Jackson into this tour just really seems like the wrong call. "doug." perfectly set the energy of the show and then Paris, while fine in her own right, was not the right middle band. Her music is very poppy and does not fit in with the rock and roll nature of a Pretty Reckless show. The original lineup of "doug." and then Pretty Reckelss would have been amazing.

Highly recommend everyone with tickets on this tour make sure you are there at show start for this fantastic opener. You will not be disappointed.

Is Maggotkin of Nurgle - Bubonic Cell decent?

My son wants to get his first Spearhead army and he really likes the Nurgle models. I'm reading though that the new Bubonic Cell spearhead is B-tier at best, some putting it in D-tier. We currently have "Stormcast - Vigilant Brotherhood" and "Skaven - Gnawfeast Clawpack" that we got from the Starter Set. He's been beating me consistently with Gnawfeast Clawpack but I finally got a win off on him last night using Vigilant Brotherhood.

So, if he gets Bubonic Cell, is it going to be decent against the two armies we already have? According to this they are all B-tier armies so I'm thinking Bubonic Cell might be good for him, since we only play against each other. I wouldn't want him to get an S-tier army and then just destroy me every time whether I use Stormcast or Skaven.

What do you think?

WIP - SCE Prosecutor - C&C Desired

Hello all you amazingly talented people. Still quite new to the hobby and loving every minute of it. Working on this prosecutor now and getting close to finishing the “base” layer, if you will, even tho I’ve already done some highlighting on the feathers and am pretty much finished the flare on the wings. Haven’t done any shading yet, which plan is to use some Nuln Oil on the steel and Reikland Fleshshade on the gold. I also have some Sigvald Burgundy I’m gonna use for the first time on the spear and sword handles. Lots of little touchups and whoopsies to fix too.

Looking for any feedback you have. There’s a lot of new techniques I’ve never done before on this one:

- First time I’ve used Retributor Gold spray on top of Black spray prime
- First time using contrasts to get the flaring of the flames
- First time doing such detailed highlighting, painting all the feathers with White Scar

Things I’m unhappy with:

- Not a fan of the gold spray. Takes on a sandy, gritty look in places. Is that my fault? I notice it’s not everywhere. How do I prevent that? Gonna strip the other two prosecutors I sprayed and try again.
- Not happy with how visible my brush strokes are on the feathers. It looks patchy and not a smooth nice white like I would want. Only up close tho, from a reasonable distance they look nice but not great. The lines between the feathers look blurry/messy.

My Prosecutor wings in 5 steps

This was how I decided to do my Prosecutor wings in 5 steps to try and achieve something close to the box art: Corax White, Aethermatic Blue, Pylar Glacier, Drakenhof Nightshade, Frostheart + Aethermatic Blue (1:1 Ratio).

C&C welcome. Still very new to the hobby and can use all the help I can get haha.

Struggling to understand the back of Prosecutor leg armour..

I painted this all black, because the GW YouTube tutorial for this unit showed the guy doing that, but then what is with the straps? Is it supposed to all be gold and only the straps are leather? Or is it leather straps overtop of leather undergarment?

I have struggled to find any reference material that shows the back of Prosecutors legs, they are always shown from the front, and the other SCE models I have don’t have these straps and it’s very clear what’s gold armour and what’s leather undergarment.

If you think about it, this would be the perfect way for peaceful aliens to introduce themselves to our planet..

Show up out of nowhere, have weird costumes that look like papier màché at first and then they slowly get more detailed, SAY you're French Canadian so no one questions it, gather people together and use simple hand gestures to communicate and express peaceful intentions, make the COOLEST music of all time that humans can barely comprehend but love to dance to, then eventually one day take the masks off and announce their presence to the world and we all accept and love them...

I fit my entire (unfinished) Vigilant Brotherhood Spearhead within a single 345x275x70mm pluck foam sheet

I feel like it should be a grade 9 geometry challenge to figure out how best to fit a given spearhead into a pluck foam sheet. Is a skill unto itself. Stared at that damn planning sheet, moving models around, for what felt like over an hour before the puzzle was solved.

What is this thing?

It’s on the back of the right leg of the mini of the month. At first I thought it was a tendon but some googling is suggesting it’s an augmentation port of some kind? Like a way to connect to a computer? Help out an Old World/AoS lore nut that knows oh so very little about 40K.

My first complete unit of Liberators

Painted these in between finishing off a group of Clanrats. Did three of them in bulk and I did not enjoy that. Single model at a time for me from now on other than priming.

My first complete unit of Clanrats

One of these is the first model I ever painted, and another is the most recent. I took a break on the rats to paint some Stormcast Eternals, then I came back to finish off the unit.

"Folk Emerging" New Demo - Steam NextFest

Hey everyone. I am a casual follower of this wonderful 4X title that is part of the Steam NextFest called "Folk Emerging". It's a small indie title but I think it has a wonderful UI and just a lot of really smart ideas. The new demo includes changes from the "Scarcity and Abundance" update. Dev is super responsive on discord and puts out nice, frequent, meaningful updates.

"Lead nomadic families through the Stone Age in this turn-based 4X strategy game with in-depth characters, cultures, and ecosystems. Explore the wilderness, hunt megafauna, outsmart competitors in trade & autobattler combat. Discover fire, agriculture, politics... and survive to tell the tale."

Please give it a try today (June 16) if you can as it helps them with the way the Steam NextFest algorithm brings it to peoples attention after the first 48 hours. Everyone knows the 4X genre needs all the love it can get so check it out! I promise you won't regret it.

I am in no way affiliated with the development of this game, just a big fan.

My first attempt at freehand..

It’s a ridiculously simple freehand, but freehand none the less. I wanted it to look like something a rat did so I could excuse it looking so rough 🤣

Getting much more comfortable with highlighting as well. Trying to be very subtle, not a huge fan of stark edge highlights yet. Just not steady enough for it.

C&C welcome. Very new at this so not sensitive in the least.

I wish I got a wet palette sooner...

For anyone just getting into the hobby like I am, I recommend to start using a wet palette right away. I regret not starting with one. I figured "Hey I can just mix a little paint each time, it's no big deal. I don't want to mix colours or preserve things for days so I don't need a wet palette..."

It's not about preserving things for days. Even minute by minute your paint is drying out and getting stickier in your standard palette and I never noticed. Now that I am using a wet palette I thin the paints down to exactly the consistency I want and they STAY LIKE THAT. If someone asks me to do something for them I can put my brush down and help them and not have to say "Just wait I need to finish painting this before my paint dries". It's a much more relaxing experience, and I'm shocked at how well it works. I just came back after two hours and the Khorne Red I made was still the exact same as I left it, just started painting again like I had mixed it 15 seconds ago.

My First Complete Unit

Hello. This is my first completed unit since I started painting a month or so ago. I know one day I’ll laugh at how bad they are but for now I’m loving it. Really enjoy painting the Stormcast Eternals. Practiced a few different highlighting techniques I saw on YouTube here (none of them very well), so they aren’t all done exactly the same.

C&C definitely welcome. Both on painting and photography. How do I light the figurines without lighting the backdrop? I want that cool dark room look but wasn’t sure how to get it.

Where is the Realms of Ruin community organizing?

If you look at the "Playable Maps" for the game people are still creating maps and updating maps every day or so, so does anyone know where these people are organizing and playing against others? Is there any community for making and sharing "Scenes" as they have on the website? That is one of my favourite features of this game that you can construct elaborate dioramas of all the models in game and take pictures of them.

Seems like such an incredible game for community if there was a bit of effort put in to organizing it all. Would there be an appetite for a discord server if I set one up? I know the playercount is super low but even very niche games can have an active community if the interest is there and someone is willing to put the effort in to organize. The official discord seems dead.
