please share your most op strategies for single player!

For those who are struggling with the game (meaning me), would you share your best starting heroes and your strategy to make them as broken as possible as fast as possible?

After trying the game in normal difficulty and getting trounced by the first hero passing nearby, I realized I'll need all the help I can get lol.

Looking for advice

https://preview.redd.it/me1jnxqhz3bh1.png?width=1038&format=png&auto=webp&s=088431a52d363eb88156f506974b7a1507d2bc1c

This is shown as an easy battle, but I've tried four or five times and yes, I can win it, but the cats always manage to kill at least one of my hydras and a lot of my other troops: I can't kill them fast enough with spells and range. What would you suggest I do to make this easier for myself? I'm in normal difficulty.

Thanks a lot for your help :)

[SPOILERS DRAGONLANCE] advice for creating a campaign with a large timeskip?

So, my PCs, who know absolutely nothing about dragonlance, decided that's the setting our next campaign should take place in. I think it might be nice to have them be part or witness to the cataclysm, befriend lord soth while he's a human, etc., and then be frozen in time until the time of tannis, caramon, etc.

Maybe even have a Crono Trigger-like mechanic allowing them to have limited time between eras.

Have you tried something like this, has it been enjoyable by your players? I see it could be upsetting for them to lose all their hometown, friends, etc., but I also think there's huge narrative potential.

I'd be extremely grateful if you could share your experiences :)

what are the core themes of dragonlance, from a TTRPG perspective?

So, I'm going to narrate a new campaign, and my players decided to go for Dragonlance. I've read a few novels as well as some old comics (from the 80s/early 90s I guess?) but in order to properly prepare, I wanted to ask the hive mind:

What are the main things I should emphasize in order to make my players feel we're playing Dragonlance and not just "Forgotten Realms but we kill dragons"? Things from adversaries, general themes, etc. would be enormously helpful.

Thank you very much for your help :)

recommended CEDH decks for a beginner?

Hello

I'm a casual commander player, currently without a group. A friend has a small commander group where they play exclusively CEDH (using proxies), and they offered to accept me. The thing is, I have zero knowledge about this specific tier, so I wanted to ask for advice.

I wanted to ask for suggestions for decks that are as competitive as possible, though without too many complex variables. I looked at moxfield and a couple youtube videos, but I'm uncertain how up to date they are.

Thank you very much for your kind help :)

Noob questions

So I'm new to the game, and stupidly I started a game on hard difficulty. Everything was kinda nice until I got sight of enemy heroes, and everything went to hell from there: I had just a single hero with a significant army, and was quickly roflstomped into oblivion. This leads me to ask:

  1. Is there a rule of thumb for how quickly you should achieve certain goals? For example, have Tier 7 units by week one, have 2 armies by week 2, or whatever.
  2. Related to the first one, how can you gaige whether you're ready for facing enemy heroes?
  3. I clearly bit off more than I could chew on this campaign. What settings/heroes/map would you recommend for someone who is still learning the ropes? For example, is it better to go with a single hero mode, or multiple heroes so I learn how to juggle the different problems?

Thanks a lot for your help! :D

EDIT: I was playing with grove/ gingertail.

is there a consensus on acceptable losses?

Hello

I bought the game yesterday and have been enjoying it a lot, so total newbie here. Browsing around, I read that grove/gingertail was good for a beginner, so my faun archers and I have been happily slaughtering stuff around the map. Following youtube tutorials, I have two large stacks for damage and several 1-stacks to serve as cannon/focus fodder.

With this, I've been able to easily tackle normal battles and most difficult ones, though with casualties, which leads me to my question. Do you have a rule of thumb on when having losses is acceptable and how many per fight?

Also, I'm not 100% sure what should I be aiming towards for the late game. I saw a video on youtube recommending aiming for +100% unit production and then rush level 7 units to try and kill everything. Is this a good idea, or should I try something else?

Thanks a lot for helping me out and taking the time to read this! :D

need advice for a bargain with a hag

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone in this community. I've asked more than my fair share of questions, and invariably I've gotten some brilliant responses and thoughtful comments.

When I mention my campaign (basically pirates, with the equivalent of devil fruits from one piece which give you amazing powers but makes you incapacitated if you get submerged, one of the final bosses is a kraken) is how unfair it is to give the players the chance to get fruits when one of the main bosses will be a kraken.

So I'm thinking having them contact a hag or other supernatural entity willing to give them a bargain, with two options. The first one is easy and straightforward: the fruit is removed from them, so they lose the powers but can fight on water normally.

It's the second which I'm having trouble with: what could the hag ask and, more importantly, what could she offer that doesn't make the sea weakness completely trivial? The way the sea weakness works in my world is: once you get even partially underwater, you get incapacitated, can't move, breath, take reactions, anything, plus any beneficial magic cast on you (like breath water) stops working. Maybe it could allow them to retain the effects of beneficial magic, or something along those lines? I'm more than a little lost here.

Thanks again for your help, and apologies for the long post :)

I'd appreciate help building my first deck

I'm a casual Commander player, using my friends' decks because I've been unemployed for a good while. However, as a surprise I'd like to arrive with a [[Toxrill the Corrosive]] budget deck, based on on this deck list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4581835#paper

The thing is, the deck list is from 2022, so I'm guessing there must be better cards on a similar price range. Suggestions are welcome :)

I'd also be willing to splurge on slightly more expensive cards (on the $5 to $20 range approx), so suggestions on that regard would also be welcome.

Thanks a lot for your help :D

Exalted 3e Dice Roller (BETA)

https://faallenoon.pythonanywhere.com/exaltedDice/

Massive thanks to u/Psimo- for the idea. This is a simple dice roller for Exalted 3e, with a few sliders that should help adapt to the quirks of many different charms.

You can roll from 1 to 100 dice (please let me know if that number could be too low) with a base threshold for success of 7, and a threshold for 2 successes of 10. Both can be lowered at will, so you can create a roll where every 5+ is a success and every 8+ is a double success, for example.

You can also toggle different numbers to be rerolled, until those numbers stop appearing. I configured it so that if a reroll number would be a success, it keeps the success.

I should note that I'm not too into Ex3 (I played it for a couple of years when it came out, so... It's been a while). Thus, if you think there are other functionalities required to reflect the effect of other charms, or if it currently isn't working as it should, please let me know :)

My two main concerns: 1. are there cases where your dice can 'explode'? For example, if you roll a 10 you roll another dice until 10s stop appearing? 2. Are there cases where you get non-consecutive two successes? For example, a charm that makes your 8s be double successes, as well as your 10s, but not your 9s.

Sorry for the long post, I hope this is of some use to you :D

Looking for ideas to created automated tools

Hello

As a hobbie, I've made a few tools to ease the life of TTRPG players. For example, NPC and encounter generators for Warhammer Fantasy RPG, a world generator based on Worlds Without Number, etc.

At this point, I'd like to create something new, but I'm not sure what to do. My ideal is something that hasn't been done before, the creation of which can save people time/effort (for example, I have a 40k Space Marine chapter generator based on the Deathwatch TTRPG which automates about 25 rolls and table comparisons to a single click).

I pray for the wisdom and guidance of the hive mind :)

PS: If you want to take a look, the site is https://faallenoon.pythonanywhere.com/hammer . It's ugly as sin, but it works

intrigued about the physical version of ravenloft horrors within

I have heard many marvels about how good it is! I wonder if the good people of this subreddit might be interested in discussing this most fascinating subject.

Is there a game system where players operate as monarchs/bosses, rather than as executors?

What I mean is, a game where the party must manage a kingdom or other large organisation but are not expected to handle each and every issue said organisation has, having resources at their disposal to send, and the challenge being in knowing when to act themselves and when to send their minions/servants.

I do realize that, as presented, the premise doesn't seem too well suited for a TTRPG, but I just got curious. I remember the existence of Birthright for AD&D, though I never played it.

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge :)

what am I missing regarding difficulty?

So I'd been enjoying the game until I hit a point that, to me, seems absurd, and that is the spark when fighting bosses. I fought a boss and, not surprisingly, I got killed, so I went in again, recovered my spark and fought him again... But then he ate my spark, meaning when I was killed next, I lost all my bones.

I'm not new to soulslike mechanics, but those are usually more forgiving: you can recover your sparks each time you face a boss (meaning you can continually go against them, as long as you take care of ercovering your runes), and usually you know when you're about to face one due to special doors. But with this, it seems to be 'you have a couple chances to beat the boss or you lose all your bones', which hardly seems reasonable.

Thus, my question: is there something I'm not seeing here, or does the game intend for you to kill all bosses within the first few tries?

So I haven't used these particular earbuds in a long while, and this patina showed up. Can I use Isopropyl alcohol to clean it (and the earbud itself, of course) and then use the earbud, or does this mean that the earbuds are unusable/not safe to use anymore?

And, on the same vein, for general use, is cleaning the earbuds with isopropyl alcohol and leaving them drying for a while safe for one's ears, or should they be cleaned some other way?

Thanks a lot for your help!
