Ever made a dumb clerical error that had had/could have had a consequence?

I mixed up client numbers and the wrong client got something it was worse than it sounds.

Anyone else?

How did you cope and give self compassion?

Anyone else notice this?

That nothing is good enough any more unless it is linked directly to data in some way?

Expectations up and up. No leeway and ‘support’ is often just micromanagement?

I work across two schools one large and one small - the difference in principals and how they see my role couldn’t be more different.

Smaller school principal rings me to thank me - like when I helped him with a more complicated application of policy. He called the next day to say thank you. Larger one doesn’t make much eye contact and almost ignores me when others are around. Small things like not including me in meetings he could do (not essential for my job, but other schools in my district do have their counsellors at these meetings), and generally not having much interest in the policy things (a big part of the role in my district) that I assist with. Like it’s an annoyance.

I have to do another 3 years including this one at the larger school but I am training myself not to expect much validation here.

What do others experience working in more than 1 school?

Are we going back to old money vs no money due to the real estate boom and cost of living?

I am in the sandwich generation between aging parents and teenagers. The real estate market has gotten so competitive that the only way my kids will afford their own houses is if I give them significant chunks of my own savings in their 20s. My parents worked extremely hard and started from nothing - but I had the start given to me through education, paid for by them, that they lacked. The difference between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ is widening- what do I do?

My parents have enough money to fund a very good middle class retirement for themselves and have already gifted a small portion to my kids and their other two grandchildren.

I myself am frugal but I spend on things like travel but keep saving for my own retirement.

I’m kind of rambling but I guess my point is unless you are Uber high earning at a young age, or have significant help from older generations you won’t own a house in a major Australian city and it never used to be that way. Are we going back to a more class oriented society? Old money vs no money?

Budget direct denied a claim and cancelled out policy back in 2014. Now they sent a letter saying that was wrong and the claim should have been accepted.

From memory it was a denied claim and house insurance cancelled due to me not disclosing a previous claim in the initial phone call to organise the insurance policy in the first place because I forgot. Lesson learned just chalked it up to experience, sorted the damage ourselves (think it was water or something), organised more insurance and moved on.

Now we get this advice from the insurer that the claim denial was incorrect and that they are sorry. This is all in a letter and I called them yesterday but the claim manager isn’t there until this coming week so I don’t know much more. We don’t even own the home anymore. I think the biggest issue for us was the increased cost of i insurance as a result of the cancellation and of course the stress and of course the cost of repairs which I don’t even know - previous bank accounts and credit cards have changed so it’s all a bit of an unknown.

What would you expect the previous insurance company to do to make this right?

Received letter from Budget Direct underwriter saying a claim they denied was incorrect

And now apparently they want to get in touch and make it better somehow. House insurance- anyone else? We recently sold the house

How to deal with the corporate nature of schools these days

I work education sector - registered teacher but it’s a helluva corporate environment with data targets, back scratching etc etc.

I have had bad experiences it being able to cope with the falseness, performative actions and conversations and general ‘fudging’ of everything and anything from data to conversations. Gaslighting, selective memory etc.

I have learned to never speak of this ever and simply smile and do my tasks. Keep strong data myself and track and keep records. Provide summaries to mgt weekly and generally cover my tail. But the corporate bs gets me still. I’m competent, mid career and not an aspirant. So I’m. Not included in leadership committees etc which is absolutely fine.

The thing is I KNOW to expect this bs and just smile and do my job. How to stay the course when it’s hard and tempting to open your mouth and comment (in private to another leader which then is passed on, let’s face it) about the rubbish?

How to just stay focused? How to stomach feedback about leaning in to corporate bs when necessary (of course it isn’t couched in these terms).

I hope people understand what I mean!!

How good is reproductive health leave - govt employees?

So grateful for this leave! 10 extra days on top of sick leave and don’t need a med cert until the fourth consecutive day.

It resets June 30 and doesn’t accumulate so no pressure to save for a ‘rainy day’ reproductive leave wise because you can’t!

Headmistress ‘froze’ me out

She’s professional but cool. Avoids me in the corridors - will change directions if she sees me. Avoids eye contact and will interrupt our conversation if others approach while I am talking to her but will ignore me if I approach. Never will be in her inner circle. She’s polite but makes it clear I’m not someone she is bringing under her wing.

For context I am 51 - competent but not looking for promotion and many other leaders at the school are ( such as head of special Ed and assistant heads). Had a bad experience at previous school that I won’t go in to but who knows what has been said behind my back. I do my job very carefully and keep good records. I’ve had to give some difficult answers to her and other leaders when asked for input but I would not be doing my job if I didn’t and I don’t like my nose in unless asked. I can still do my job but it’s not nice to be frozen out.

I think I just grate on her !

How to cope? There are certainly benefits to the situation but some obvious draw backs as well.

For context I am 51 and a school psychologist as well as licensed teacher which is considered a leadership role - competent but not looking for promotion and many other leaders at the school are ( such as head of special Ed and assistant heads). Can you tell me what just happened to me in a biological/science level?

I know the short answer is probably mild short term panic but can you tell me the biology of this: I received an email pop up notification referencing ‘code of conduct’. I immediately panicked before realising within 2 seconds that it was simply a survey to rate the quality of a pd we all just did. I am an anxious person plagued by worry about work. This snowballs and causes issues… you know the drill.

I felt a strong impact like sensation from within my chest - my heart I know. Then after about ten seconds my heart beat rapidly for about 30 sec and I breathed to calm it. My arms are now weaker approx 4 mins later and my fingers shake. I felt a dull pulse in my head too. Breathing returning to normal.

But that first 30 sec to one min omg! The chest sensation!

Was anyone in Gladstone in the 70s and 80s to remember this story?

That a couple drove off O’Connell wharf in an apparent double suicide but here say said only one body had water in the lungs. Anyone know of the story or anything about it?

I don’t want to go home because my husband yelled eff off

In front of kids and a visitor. I’m sitting here in my car wanting to stay away as long as possible. The kids are adult children but I still feel bad for them.
