This was found in a home kitchen and the homeowner is panicking, but I don’t believe it’s a german cockroach. I believe it’s a lil baby American Cockroach, or “waterbug” as folks like to call them instead. It was about half an inch long.
I see the little bit of rain and thunder to the east of Greenville, NC…. but what is the rest of the green that is showing throughout this area of Virginia? This is the radar in Wakefield, VA
My daughter turned 4 a few days ago. A robin made a nest on top of one of the downspouts on our house, and we’ve been watching it for several weeks. The babies had gotten pretty big by this point.
I walked outside this morning and found the nest on the ground, along with a dead chick. The other baby was gone. I can only assume a mammal or a hawk got to it. I got rid of the evidence without really thinking about it…. and now I’m wondering if I should’ve showed her and turned it into a teaching moment.
Do I tell her? A part of me wants to tell her they went off to college but I understand that’s probably not the best way to handle it.

My mother bought this car new, and the driver’s side window has always made this squealing noise when going down. If it has recently rained, the noise is guaranteed…. but if it hasn’t rained, you may or may not hear it. When you roll the window up and down repeatedly, it only ever makes the noise the first time. None of the other windows do this.
The Honda dealership replaced a portion of the weather stripping, and that didn’t make a difference, so they went back replaced the entirety of the weather stripping (for that window.) That didn’t make a difference either.
It’s certainly not a crisis but it’s very annoying.
Our neighbor has a large shed/small building in their backyard that is in terrible shape. There is a tree (and a large hole) in the roof that has been there for years, and the building has basically become one with the overgrowth in the yard.
They let us know that over the next couple of weeks they will be having a lot of work done in the yard, including removing the building and clearing most of the overgrowth.
I’m concerned about pests that have made their home there seeking a new place to be. What sort of precautions would could we take to keep a possible influx from getting into our home and shed?
We’re in southeastern Virginia so namely rats, mice, squirrels, american cockroaches…. possibly raccoons, opossums or snakes. We aren’t sure what’s living in there.
