Using Shapr3d with mouse, big mistake?

I am totally new to CAD and just trying to draw the most basic shape for a simple part, trying build a bit of experience and I know S3D is big money but I figured it would be easy and I am pretty much getting nowhere.

I try to lock the plane just draw a shape if I touch the Apple mouse at all the locked plane just starts spining and maybe I am just brain dead, but I can't use this program much at all.

It's fine if this is just beyond me, but I see a lot of people using an iPad and pen, is that a better choice?

It just blows my mind that I have a simple thing to draw, figured I would get somewhere and I can't barely draw a triangle or use the program without one finger touch sening the thing flipping around.

I have watched the tutorials but I can't realy control this app at all.

Maybe the mouse is a problem, Ive used systemd for decades of every other kind and I am just super let down how i can't even draw a shape without the thing going nuts on me.

Intro to CAD ending kinda of badly so far with Makera

It seems as each time I try to get into this I get nowhere. I can buy a Z1, I downloaded their studio program, eager to try to create something, not actually mill it, just draw a box even a cube, something. I get started and define materials and then I am like where do I go to try to create something?

Pops up, well you need a model. OK how do I make one, that's what I want to do. The big deal seeemed to be getting this "studio" software which is loaded but I guess all it does it send the plans to the machine

I watch their tutorial, and the only options are to use a model someone else alreayd made from Makerables or basically nothing. I have no idea why they even need software iuf it just allows you to dump other files.

My question is there literally no company that has software without learning autocad that allows someone to design something they want to? I wanted to buy a machine so I could try to make something I wanted to and it looking like again designing somehting is another purchase which will be just as difficult to use as if I got a $100,000 machine.

Just super bummed as I thought Makera included a program to create a model, not just print one, an engineer did elsewhere

If you design a project with Makera software can you send it out to industrial shops?

Sorry for the very newbie question. I am looking at gettijng a Z1 and for my limited need wit custom small brackets which are all no taller than 3/4" this machine will let me create them at home. Some may be sold and I would like to possibly do them in stainless steel. If I use the Makera software to make these, can these files jst be exported so that someone like a PCBWAY could do them in SS?

I don't have the Z1 yet and I am trying to understand how my basic little operation can work.

Thank you

Modifying an existing part, but no little about CNC

I have a modern aluminum machined part but need to produce it with a small extension and modification. There is a chance beyond a few pieces that this could go into small production.

As I am new to all things CNC, my question is if there is a service online or system that can start by taking in the dimensions of an exisiting part and then allowing me to modify the design or to work with a company that does this.

This is a simple part, basically a bracket 5 threaded holes and some relief cut, sorry if thats the wrong, word, its most flat but not completely.

Is everyone aware UPS is just adding on "fees" for any reason it wants to international shipments?

Brompton G is way more capable than expected - Not sure I understand how this happened....

Been getting into cycling a lot lately. But this surprised me:

Bike 1: Brompton G with its 20" tires, 44T ring for hills that we have a lot of
Bike 2: Steel full size bike, 26" Schwalbe Touring tires and a Rohloff 14 speed hub, belt drive, well tuned

Ride 1:
20 mile ride, recorded in Strava with the Brompton G. Very comfortable, not sure I can explain it but the pedaling just felt unhurried and easy. This is NH 50% of the riding is hills, big ones. Extreme hills were OK but the G is limited with gearing but it got the job done and I had a great time

Result: 2:01hrs

Ride 2:
Identical route as Ride 1 with the full size 26" tires, German Rohloff with more gears, bigger bike. What surprised me was the bike felt super heavy, gears weren't really seeming too helpful and it was a bit hotter but not crazy. But I figured no big deal I will be flying. At times the bike felt like a tank and not so great.
Result: 1:50hrs

Point being, it was a long ride for the Brompton and it was great and I am amazed that the big bike didn't give a huge improvement, not at all in fact at times it felt worse. I just don't fully understand why the Brompton does so well. But it was long, the same ride and same rider and I am just blown away how nice the G was, and quick.

Sorry for the long post but this just kind of amazed me.

Rees Mariposa 34 String Purchase

Hi there, we bought this model on a bit of a whim second hand but in perfect condition and I know I am doing this late but hoping this may be a good harp for someone learning and hoping to grow with the art over time. Is there anything to be on the lookout for with this brand? Thank you

Thank you 44T for the G - Now I am ready for Mount Washington!

Thanks guys for the advice about swapping the chain ring on the G. What a difference, I am in New Hampshire and everywhere is a hill here. Swapping it out wasn't too bad, I removed the 4 links and the difference is night and day.

I know for the pros this may be an old topic but this $50 swap is life changing.

600ADX vs 600HTX Gearing Difference?

I thought these bikes were identically from a gearing perspective except for electric shifting, but I saw that the CEO said that the HTX was geared differently for better hill climbing.

I can find the actual spec anywwhere or what was changed. Im guessing the Pinion must be the same, maybe a belt drive wheel has different numbers of teeth? Just trying understand a bit more

Thank you

600HXT Questions - Pop on fenders? & Can you lockout the front shock?

Really interested in the HXT and seems like a great value. I have a lot of weekend trails to explore and in very hilly mountainous area. Also do some exercise and commuting, occasionally in the rain.

Can you lockout the front shock entirely for road use, or maybe that's not even needed?

Second are pop on fenders a thing, I would like some protection for times I have to ride in the rain, at least some. Is there a set that can work?

Thank you

Adjusting Brompton G Brake Bite Point? Possible?

The regular bromptons had a grub screw to set the brake handles to be exactly what you want, sadly I am not seeing any adjustment son the G and the throw is way to far for my taste, it feels like you have no brakes until you pull them way in.

Anyone else have a way to adjust this? Thank you

Are any of the bottom bracket upgrades worth it?

Looks like an easy upgrade and not terribly expensive, but are any of them worth it in terms of making anything smoother ot better. The weight isn't a worry since mine is steel anyway. Just wondering. Ty

Do suspension seat posts rob you of power?

100% they make the ride more comfortable, but is it known if they rob you of pedal powr. It would seem that you are moving up and down that you are losing some juice with every stroke. Maybe it's fantasy, hoping the experts here will know more....

Can someone explain what each choice means in the real world with a gate belt & pinion setup?

I don't understand what you gain or lose from the 32/32 or 39/32. I *think* the 32/32 is better for hilly terrain? Thank you for the help

Looking at the HXT - Wondering why its the most underdiscussed, shown bike on YT

Was looking at this bike, not gonna lie,, I really don't like the color at all, but I like the specs of the bike and I can get it for $3k with a coupon they sent me.

What's weird is the specs seem great but there are almost no videos at all from anyone owning this bike after its launch. Just seems so strange is it feels like a great deal.

Even messages, it seems like 50 people bought the bike and then it just kind of died. I do think the color is a bigger problem than the realize but maybe its something else?

Seems like a great bike

Putting a 44T on a G Line - What size chain to get?

Hi there I am getting a G line and already know the hills where I ride are crazy and would like to get the 44T to help. I found the gear and the guard. Is there a chain already ready to go to use with this setup? I would like to keep the original parts in tact rather than cut the exisiting chain in case I want to go back. Thank you

26" vs 29" Tires for Touring.. Are 26s today a mistake?

I remember the old days when 26" seemed to be what everyonne said to get for world travel. But I am just doing regional US travel and have more options in the 29". I also see that 29" roll "faster" and my 26s do feel kinda heavy if that makes sense.

Wondering if getting a 29" is a terrible decision for this type of bike travel?

My info says that 15208AA21A is the right filter but the number on the car is similar to this but slightly different. Does the original filter have a different number or something?

Thank you
