Mental fatigue in exam (ADHD)- not processing the question and wasting time

I’m currently trying to cram for an exam in 2 days and I’m really struggling I feel like I’m getting overwhelmed because I’m not remembering and not taking it in as much because I’m tired. I find that in exams there’s often so much going on with the questions, especially for this exam since it’s multi part questions and essay answers on complicated topics, I find that my brain kind of gives up and I keep re-reading the question and not being able to remember anything about the topic or understand what I need to answer the question. Then I look around the room, start to panic because I realise that I’m not understanding and don’t know what to write and I’m tired and can’t think and suddenly 20 minutes has gone by and I can’t do anything about it. Last time this happened I froze and didn’t finish half the exam and passed by a mark or two for the first time ever and I can’t afford that.
I really need advice on what to do, it’s a 2 hour exam and I need to write 6-8 pages on various complex topics and I know I’ll really struggle to write the right thing or even finish. I just practiced a chat gpt practice question and it took way too long and I forgot like everything, now my brain just won’t work hard anymore and I can’t keep practicing because I can’t think hard after attempting 2 questions.

Really sore eyes

Hi I’m hoping someone can help because I’m so fed up with this and idk what to do. I never really had any major issues with my eyes, I’ve had dry eyes fairly often and have the lowest prescription glasses for reading, but starting probably a year ago, maybe I’m not sure, I’ve had terrible daily issues with my eyes. They can get really dry to the point where nothing helps, especially when I’m in peak study mode and have to be on the computer 24/7. I can’t stop blinking every .5 seconds and they feel sore all the time. On top of that I feel like my eyelashes keep hitting my eyes/ going into my eyes or something? It’s gotten so bad that I’m basically looking for ones to rip out every single day, I’ve even tweezed them out before. I don’t know why this is happening and it’s driving me insane, currently I’ve studied all day so it’s been worse this week, they are so dry and my eyelashes feel like they are rubbing or something and so I’ve rubbed my eyes so much, I’ve used eyes drops multiple times and it’s just not doing anything, now they are so irritated that I can barely open them properly, they literally feel like they’re burning and like I’ve been beaten.

Does this sound familiar? I have an exam in a few days and can’t go in like this, I know I shouldn’t rub them but after I’ve flushed them with water and tried eye drops, I actually don’t know what to do.

- I should add I have no allergies besides mild dust mite allergy and this has become a daily occurrence now within the last year.

Exam with no guidance on what to study

I have 4 weeks worth of content to cover for the exam, 2 different topics with like a million subtopics but only 3 questions for each topic. I have no idea where to start there’s just so much to go through and I know I’m gonna be mad when 99% of the stuff I study isn’t on there and the 1% that I probably skipped is 😭. How do y’all tackle stuff like this?

I don’t want to skip things in case they’re on it but I know I’m not remembering it all (I already forgot all the details of everything that I learned in the first place). Normally I memorise but I know that’s not helping this time.

Tips to get through big text book readings

I’ve always hated and struggled with reading my entire life. I wonder if I do have dyslexia on top of the ADHD because I don’t comprehend what I read and I find that text often just looks like a chunk of text to me and not like words, I’m not able to read very fluently and often muddle up words or think I read a different word. I also get headaches when trying to read and can’t read for too long my brain just can’t handle it. I’m currently studying at uni and have tended to skip all readings unless I have to, but now I’m at a point where I’ve got no guidance on study for an exam but like 10 textbook chapters and papers labelled required readings/examinable. I’ve tried multiple times to start reading these and end up trying to find summaries but when there’s like 30 pages a summary doesn’t always tell much. Any tips for getting through all this? Is there something to get it to read it to me or any suggestions? I can’t find how I can get it to read me the content or anything and just thinking about it is making me want to avoid it.

Started taking phenergan, how do I stop and not go back to feeling horrible?

I’ve realised sleep is probably my biggest issue impacting my life. So many things like my mental health and energy which I’ve been struggling with for so long seem to stem largely from my sleep. My sleep has been terrible for so long: I’m normally in bed at a good time, around 8 and try to go to sleep by around 9ish then alarm goes off at like 5:50 every day and I’m pretty consistent with this even on weekends. However, it’s the quality of sleep and constant sleep disruptions that leave me irritable, depressed, energy-less etc. and like I still haven’t slept in days.

Recently though, it’s gotten so bad and I started taking phenergan to help me sleep as well as a sleep supplement (which wasn’t helping on its own) and for the first time I have felt mildly good and slept virtually the entire night, as I still waking up at times? Yes, but it’s different like I’m still in that sleepy phase so I go back to sleep and rest and it’s fine. I have had phenergan before and it’s not always been helpful so idk what’s changed, but I feel great. I’m just worried now though that it’s not sustainable and I probably shouldn’t be using it on and off for sleep long term. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What did you do? Any advice? I really need this sleep but don’t want to become dependent on medication either. Please help!!

Every time I chew gum now I get a headache/migraine ☹️

I had my surgery almost 6 weeks ago with all 4 taken out, by the two week mark I was good. Before surgery I was like a gum addict I used to chew gum like everyday multiple times but now every time I chew gum I end up with a headache or migraine and it’s so annoying. Has this happened to anyone else? I really hope it doesn’t last because even chewing one piece hurts my jaw quicker and my head. Aside from that everything is back to normal and I don’t even think about it anymore besides looking at the empty space behind my back molars when I brush my teeth.

Anyone had a sleep study be useful (and not have apnoea)?

My sleep is making me want to pull my hair out. I am so exhausted and feel horrible every single day with sleep inertia feeling that lasts for hours. I haven’t slept well in months expect for one day earlier this week when I had a strong antihistamine and randomly had one of the best nights I’ve had in so so long (obviously this didn’t last unfortunately) but i felt so much better that day it felt so weird and it made me realised how much sleep impacts my mood, mental clarity, energy, focus etc. I’ve been wanting to do a sleep study because I toss and turn all night long and can’t sleep even though I’m tired. I don’t believe I have sleep apnoea because I don’t snore and I don’t think I have gaps in breathing (I hate the questions in the screeners that say do people say you have gaps in breathing because I don’t sleep near anyone so how would I know???) anyway my dad has it pretty bad in my opinion but is being stubborn about getting a sleep study. I think the only way I could have it is obstructive sleep apnoea from my deviated septum which causing breathing issues.

Otherwise, I’ve had heavier sleep aides, antidepressants, and melatonin before that do nothing, I take magnesium, I’ve tried different sleep supplements, different pillows etc. none of which have worked though or they have opposite effects. I’m not sure what’s causing it but I’m worried the sleep questionnaire to meet the study criteria is going to be all about sleep apnea and sleeping during the day but no matter how dead i am I’ve never been able to nap during the day EVER since I was a kid. I can be so tired that I can’t do anything at all but still I can’t nap unfortunately, I wish so bad that I could tho.

Anyways, any advice? Should I get it done? Anyone have an eerily similar experience and can share? Thanks

Chronic dry nose!

Anyone have chronically dry nose pre-surgery?? And can you explain why it happens/ did surgery help?

I’ve always had really bad dry nose, especially if it’s winter or the AC is on, I literally can’t breathe and it hurts. I need septorhinoplasty with turbinate reduction and I just really hope it helps because it’s so frustrating. It makes sleeping impossible sometimes and I often wake up in the middle of the night. And can’t go back to sleep because it’s so dry. Every day I wake up I put warm water in my nose which helps after trying to breathe dry air all night. I use a steroid nasal spray and I also have a saline one, and I use my humidifier basically every night (although I try to put it on low now since it’s set the fire alarm off multiple times and wakes the whole house up, but I find low basically does nothing 😒). I do have a gel thing I got from the chemist to use to help with the dryness too which helps sometimes if I have it with me.

Any advice?

Middle child syndrome and toxic family

I wish I could understand why, I try to logic with my parents but clearly with emotionally manipulative parents being logical doesn’t work, and that really drives my neurodivergent brain insane. I’ve always been the outcast in the family and nothing I ever do is right, it’s lead me to have severe anxiety, depression, and trauma in my adult life. My parents often talk sht about me in front of me and always in hearing distance, especially after an argument aka they just yelled at me coz they were mad and they’re always right 🫩. What always got me tho was my siblings getting off Scot free and me getting obliterated. Even over small sht like I leave dishes in the sink so I can eat the food I just made with them and then sit for a little bit but I’m berated because I didn’t wash the dishes before I even created them and the only explanation I get for why it needs to be done so fast is them yelling that they said so. Yet my siblings (one older one younger) never do their own dishes or literally anything for themselves and my parents just do it for them and say nothing?!? I’m also the only one who’s ever asked to take washing off the line or clean the house or do the washing or help them out abut they NEVER ask my siblings and always guilt me and I can never get it all right. I used to have to catch the bus every day of my life too at 6.30 in morning for school rain hail or shine and I get travel sick yet my younger siblings just HAS to get driven every single day. How is that fair??

How do I stop holding onto all this stuff? I know it’s hard because I still live at home and it’s still ongoing so I’m constantly reliving it but I can’t move out, and I feel like I’m a really angry and sad person because of it and have just withdrawn. Any advice please?

Can anyone explain the reason for daily headaches post-surgery?

I get that getting headaches after any surgery, especially on your face, is normal, but like why are people still saying they’re getting daily headaches months out? Like what is the cause at that point when you should be able to breathe again by then right?

I’m a chronic headache/ migraine sufferer and it’s literally hell, I’ve finally gotten to a place where things aren’t too bad, so the thought of bringing all that back up again really sucks. Because you should be able to and are expected to go back to work and do things again by that time too so how do you get stuff done in that state?

Please help!

Edit: I’ve tried it on normal paper and they’re fine but on the paper that’s literally on all of my colouring books it’s just ripping up the paper and that page is ruined now I’m so mad. I wish I knew this before spending my money 😔 Any suggestions on what I can do with them then? I don’t colour at all outside my books, I might be able to use the fine tip side for details but now half my alcohol markers have run out and I can’t use the ohuhu ones but can’t really afford to buy more now 🤦‍♀️

Orig: I was really excited to colour this page and I just bought some new Ohuhu markers off Amazon to use but they’re not like I thought. Idk if they’re bad markers, I’m not using it properly, this is how they’re supposed to be or idk?? Normally I use alcohol markers and these said water based but I didn’t really think anything of it. I feel like it’s not going on the paper properly and ruining it when I colour. The fluorescent green is an alcohol marker the rest is the ohuhu markers. You might not be able to tell on the picture but I feel like it’s ruining it and I just spent my money on it. Idek if I can layer them because it seems to be damaging the paper? Plus they won’t glide very well at all and won’t make a properly straight line it’s kinda spreading and I had to go over the darker green twice for it to really show up. Any advice please??

Still can’t sleep on my piercings after years is this normal? What should I do?

I have 3 lobe piercings in each ear which are fine. I have a normal flat back conch piercing on each side which still get tender and can hurt to sleep on and I also have a helix in one ear that has just never stopped having issues for some reason. I got my helix pierced like 4 years ago nearly and I think my conch was nearly 3? Anyway I’m a side sleeper and I still can sleep on my ears and it’s really not helping my insomnia. I just don’t know what to do anymore my helix piercing site is very big, there’s no bump on it but it feels like the whole area is a “bump” like that part of my ear feels very different to the other side. It’s also very big so I can’t downsize to a normal size piercing which I’ve tried multiple times. I tried leaving them alone, I tried salt water rinses everyday and piercing gel, I’ve tried heaps of at home treatments, warm/cold compresses, but it never seems to stop hurting or be irritated again. Sometimes it looks irritated but a lot of time it looks “fine” but still hurts. I have a piercing pillow too but I toss and turn so much in my sleep it’s hard to move it with me the entire night. It’s really getting me down that it hasn’t healed well already and is still giving me daily issues. I really don’t want to get it repierced and I’d be really upset if I had to take it out after the years I’ve been through and money I’ve spent on it.
Any advice PLEASE??🙏

How to colour skies?

I always struggle when it comes to the sky especially when the background takes up a lot of space and you have to follow the marker lines constantly until the end. I’m not very good at blending and stuff like that, I want to make the top of the sky a bit darker and kind of blend down in this picture, any tips for getting it to look good and not like I just whacked some dark blue at the top? Also why do my sparkles not look very much like sparkles lol? I just went over them with white pen but they don’t look very nice.

Guys idk if I’m built for this surgery 😭

Can I hear from the people who are very sensitive to pain and have anxiety??
I attempted to watch a video of surgery and words cannot describe how ill I feel rn. I really just wanted to understand how they perform it, and now I see why I was told it’s such a complicated surgery to perform and has such a bad recovery. Like all I’m hearing is how it’s the worst thing ever to go through, recovery is hell and it takes such a long time but eventually after tiiime it’s fine. I need septorhinoplasty with turbinate reduction and was also told my surgery would be 3/4 hours and I feel like other people typically say less. I feel like there’s just so many things that can go wrong too like needing a revision, nasal valve collapse, perforation, changed appearance that you’re not happy with, ENS, scar tissue, still can’t breath well etc.

I have really bad health anxiety and am neurodivergent and very sensitive to pain or any feelings in my body. I just had my wisdom teeth out and I thought that was a bit annoying and obsessed over doing the right things to recover properly every day when I was fine. Obviously this surgery and recovery is a lot more involved so I know I’m going to struggle real bad.

Any tips or advice you can offer or things you wish you knew?? It’s stressing me out so much and I haven’t even booked yet.

Moral OCD

Among my multiple themes I think the biggest one that I never really realised is needing to be “make the “right” decision all the time. It’s truly exhausting and embarrassing, I think it really backfires because in procrastinating and freaking out over the right thing for so long, it ends up bad and I tend to harm myself and other people in the process, feeling like no decision is ever right.

I guess growing up nothing I ever did could please anyone and no matter how hard I tried to work on a decision, I feel like it was never the right decision. It really affects everything in my life, sometimes little things sometimes big things, for example spending hours in a store trying to figure out if I should really buy this dress, if it looks good or if it’s too expensive or if I’m just buying it to buy it and not actually because I like it, and then if I get it and spend heaps of money when I probably should have been saving I feel terrible and I just spiral so badly about it.

Right now I have spent months trying to figure out what the right decision is as I need surgery and don’t know if I pay and go privately which is a lot of money or not pay and wait some years and go publicly. It makes more sense for me to go privately with my life commitments rn but to pay that high of a bill I feel so guilty because I don’t have much money and it would set me back a lot, so I’d feel like a terrible person. But then I wonder if I would regret it if anything happened and I could’ve just gone public or the other way around.

Anyway, how do you deal with stuff like this?? Like if it takes so long to make a decision and then because you took so long you feel really bad about it on top of feeling bad about making the right choice, how do I make a choice that I can feel good about and stick with it? I’ve been stressed about this for so long, any advice?

Nasal valve collapse??

I was told I need open septorhinoplasty with turbinate reduction. I’m wondering tho, when I am breathing “normally” my nostrils don’t really move but if I take a real deep breath in through my nose, my left side collapses and I can feel the left side pull in. Is this nasal valve collapse? Obviously I don’t normally take really deep inhales when I breathe normally, that’s why I’m wondering if it is actually valve collapse if it only happens while taking a big breath in?
I did mention it to my surgeon and showed her but she kinda just acknowledged it but never said anything else about fixing valve collapse specifically. I did have a lot on my mind for my first appointment so I didn’t think more of it, but I heard that sometimes it doesn’t fix breathing if valve collapse isn’t addressed and I think I’d actually die if I had to go back and get a revision, risk it, and go through it all again and spend more money🫣😬.

Anyone else sleep like some kind of inverted pretzel??

Idk if this is an adhd thing but I’m wondering if anyone else is like this. I’ve done this for so long, lately it’s been worse because I’m tossing and turning allll night. I take magnesium glycinate twice a day but I’m not sure it does much. I’ve been trying to sleep with a pillow between my legs but then something just takes over and my body wants to revert to positions that stretch my spine and my body in all the wrong ways and it’s comfortable.. kinda. But then I change again to stretch the other way and then try to correct it so I don’t get up injured but it just keeps going all night long. I know some people sleep in weird ways but I haven’t really seen any like this. I typically end up off my pillow, flat on the bed, half sideways, my head goes around towards the right and my feet also both bend upwards to the right with my hand under them, so my feet are near my head. Anyone know what’s up with this??
