Is intellectual stimulation, the thrill of discovery impossible now?

It’s very hard to not be bored of everything now. Life is so predictable. Even topics that one is ignorant on, we have a gist of what it is. Do I know ANYTHING about 1960s plumbing? No, but I get the gist and know it wouldn’t interest me.

I have ADHD and think things that are so stupid sometimes but that’s what I want. I want to meet people smart enough to know some things and curious about other things with complete ignorance on the topic so they don’t know the rules so they break them. They combine one field they are competent on with another they’re not and that’s where the ideas come from.

Basically, true polymaths are hard to find. Many of them treat it like an almost self help lifestyle I think the same old ideas (study DaVinci, study the same topics etc). I need people competent but unique and outcast’s probably. How do I find these people so I can learn from them?

Where should I go on Reddit where I can find original but rational, bright people?

I want a subreddit where I can find intelligent and rational outcasts with varied and unique interests with incredible ideas or one where they could emerge if asked the right question

The ai chatbot is the new search engine/browser?

ChatGPT and other ai apps allow users to make specialized chatbots. The old web was underestimated. It’s vastly different in what can be done than what was in the 90s and 2000s.

The idea that all you can do is talk to Gemini or DoctorAi or TherapistAi (user generated bots) is ridiculous. I think you can make bots (websites) with video, interactive elements and so on. Make it fit in the format but still, it’s under-utilized

Where should I go on Reddit where I can find original but rational, bright people?

I want to learn new things, I want new hobbies or internet rabbit holes. I want to hear incredibly unique but highly sensible ideas. What subreddits or other places online or in person where I can find these people? Coordination between sensible outcasts is how innovation is done

I’ve been called autistic a lot

I’ve tried to research about the topic but I’m torn. I do create elaborate fantasies (excuses, fears etc) in my mind or have intrusive thoughts that are absurd. I am 60 40 that I’m not but it could be a fear of being ND

Should I get tested for autism?

I’ve been told I’m autistic a lot because I like organizing shells or struggle to socialize. At the same time I have an anxiety disorder and likely some trauma from abuse, and isolation from a cult upbringing so idk

Can you request a brief opportunity to speak about something you care about during an IQ test?

I often will dumb down my speech when discussing topics I’m interested in such as scholarship on religion or the economics of the internet economy for example.

I’m very new to these topics so while I haven’t memorized whole scholarly papers on the topic I have consumed a lot of accessible information.

I’m wondering if I took an IQ test if the psychologist would allow me to speak for five or ten minutes about my interest to get, potentially, a more accurate assessment of my V-IQ for example.

I took a brief screener with a psychologist, and it was a 111 V-IQ, who admitted it wasn’t robust and apparently these are notoriously inaccurate beyond detecting low IQ.

How do interesting people learn about interesting things?

I don’t just mean anecdotes or “Did you know Myers-Briggs is actually a myth?” Or something.

How do I find tv shows that I’ll like and their release schedules overlap?

So many of my favourite shows are finished. The boys, shogun I’m really starting to like, stranger things etc. I want new shows that can overlap so I have something to look forward to year round

I 22m set a boundary with my T21 boyfriend. I’m anxious about setting boundaries and don’t know how to cope, how do I do that?

I’m enforcing a boundary and I feel guilty

Me and my gay LDR bf are now out of the honeymoon phase. We are settling into a safe reliable relationship. At least I hope so. I am starting to limit my ability to call based on my needs and availability. I did it last night by limiting our call to 20 min (I want this to be the new norm, admittedly and from now on it should be probably closer to 30 min).

This morning I told him I’d call him this morning but cancelled as my bus to work was approaching and he didn’t get back to me despite telling him I’d call him when I’d leave. He said “I thought you said you’d call” I reinforced the boundary saying my bus was coming and I said I loved him and that I’d call him tonight

He responded to the first comment by saying ok. I have not set boundaries before…ever, so my anxiety is going crazy. I’m afraid I let him down or broke a promise or that he’s mad and will breakup. He’s given no indication of being that way (in general as a person) so I suppose it’s irrational. What can I do?

I need alone time

My partner is dx adhd. We used to in the first week call for 12 hours straight and never ran out of things to talk about and for the next year, up till now, we would call for a couple hours and then keep the phone on while we slept or he will call me while he’s at work. He will monologue for 15 min straight and expect me to pay attention. I just want 20 min calls now where we catch up on our days, talk about our interests comics or whatever and then hang up and send voice notes if it’s important like to say “I love you “ etc. I feel bad though cuz I don’t wanna trigger his RSD. I just can’t handle constantly being talked at or the loudness of his tv or job or even have that stress of “oh what if he talks” in the back of my mind as I sleep.

I need alone time

Me and my partner are past the year mark and I think past the honeymoon phase for one reason: I don’t really want constant hours long calls anymore. He will call me at work to not be bored (he has adhd) and will monologue about his interests for 15 min straight. The construction site is loud, his tv when he sleeps
Is loud.
Now I just want a 30 min catchup, share something your interested in, then time by ourselves. I feel guilty about it though. In our first week or two we’d call for 12 hours a day and after that, from then till now we’d call for 2 hrs and then leave the phone on. It’s always in the back of my mind even if he’s muted. I’m tired and exhausted of hearing about work drama and anything for long periods

I haven’t told him yet but I’m planning on letting him know I only want short calls now I feel bad am I being rude? I just want some time to myself
