Banned from Fasting, Wearing the Hijab, and Having a Beard: How the Chinese Government's "Counter-Terrorism" Policies against the Uyghurs Manifested

From China's Forgotten People Xinjiang, Terror and the Chinese State by Nick Holdstock, pages 229-230.

I'm not sure if these polities are continuing today, but given that China has a long history of oppressing the Uyghurs and Muslims, I'm not holding my breath.

Notable points from the screenshot: Banning fasting during ramadan, banning hijabs, banning niqabs, banning beards, banning any dress "too islamic", banning any religious education not state-sanctioned, silencing anyone who complained about state policies, no matter how benign.

Given a quick google search, it seems like they are simply making the country more restrictive, not less. -> https://www.uscirf.gov/sites/default/files/2026-05/2026%20Issue%20Update%20Chinas%20Codification%20and%20Escalation%20of%20the%20Sinicization%20of%20Religion.pdf

Edit: Just realized I have a typo in the title. Pain.

It seems feminism has been here for a while.

I wonder why ulema have not directly addressed it. The book is Secular Muslim Feminism An Alternative Voice in the War of Ideas by Hind Elhinnawy.

Wherever you Turn, There is the Face of God

>وَلِلَّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ ۚ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّوا فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

>And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face of Allah. Indeed, Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. (2:115)
