Screen protectors

Upper left is 50% matte, lower left is 25% matte, middle one is 20% matte, and right is glossy anti reflective.

Glossy anti reflective is still reflective but it darkens everything including black color of oled so it makes black looks super ultra pitch black. At minimum, I think glossy anti reflective is better than either no protector or glossy ones. It darkens the reflection too so my face, eyes, nose and skin color look darker meaning you dont get to see your face as much during the black loading screen.

You would think 20% matte should be less grainy than 25%, but surprisingly 25% looked less grainy. 20% is called AGB and least favorite of the four.

I want the best clarity and the image quality and you would think I would go with anti-reflective glossy. But when I use the screen during the day time, reflections, or the light on the ceiling bothers me enough to make me go thru this test. Basically, I have to choose the best of both worlds or choose the smallest compromise.

When I control the light completely, or go to the bathroom and turn off the lights, everything looks great including matte.

When I dim the light, I can still see reflections at a cost of darker black on glossy screen or anti-reflective glossy. Matte eliminates the reflections at a small cost of black color, but it looks better because glossy black color with reflection makes images look worse as if there is a ghost keep moving around. Some people don't like frame generation because it creates ghost effect so it's similar to that or even worse.

I am going to spend a couple more days before I decide what type of screen protector I want. Honestly, I don't think I am going to be happy with any of these, but I have no other choice. I heard that LG G6 came up with glossy anti reflective anti glare screen which revolutionize the display world in my opinion but it will probably take a long time before it becomes a cheap aftermarket screen protector.

Below is more pics. You can see darker black on a glossy screen with my reflection so the black coat now looks yellow instead of black. Pick your poison.

As you can see, 25% has less grain than 20%.

I looked at the screen of ASUS G14, G16 that are known to be glossy with good anti reflection. It looked grainy to me compared to Lenovo Legion laptops that are glossy. I would say G14/G16 are closer than 25% matte.

Resident evil requiem on super V panther lake

I get DM asking if I am happy with super V or how well it runs. I only tested red dead redemption 1 and resident evil requiem so far. I got super V only 48 hrs ago so I will get a chance to test more games later.

I like using devices with less heat, less power, and less fan noise. I dont use full maximum power to get 200 fps etc even with my desktop.

Red dead redemption1, 1440p, 25W can get over 60fps. No fan noise, temp around 55C or less.

Resident evil requiem. I could hear fan noise over 60C at default fan setting. I struggled to keep the temperature low without lowering the TDP. I ended up increasing power to 35W, changed fan mode not to make noise until the game reaches 70C.

I tried all resolutions, optiscaler using XESS 2, and also FSR 4. I dont like upscalers. Both xess and fsr make the game look way too blurry almost as if they are running at 420i resolution from ps2 era. Increasing sharpness option in optiscaler didnt help much either.

After trying all the options, the best setting I found was 720p resolution without upscaler, and download REframework mod, set the sharpness option there. 720p with high sharpness make it look better than 1440p without sharpness or 1440p with fsr4 or xess. It also gives me 55-60fps at Leon section with lots of NPCs.

1080p using the same option above can get 35-45fps.

Overall, 720p with sharpness option gave me the best result in both look and the fps. I am personally ok as long as I get above 45fps so maybe I will increase the resolution to 960p and play but I didnt notice any difference in terms of how they looked so maybe 720p is the best. It is a small 14” display anyway… with iGPU.

How do I prevent FSD from changing lane?

If I need to make a right turn, FSD changes lane from right to left unnecessarily and then change again back to the right lane almost immediately to make a right turn. Why can’t it just stay on the right lane to make a right turn? What is the purpose of unnecessary lane change? This happens almost everyday.

how do I control fan?

I can't control the fan curve. Is there a program I need to download?

Also, can I just use MSI afterburner and RTSS to see the hardware info rather than using HWinfo that the onexconsole suggests? I don't like the info it shows on the top of the screen unless there is a way to change its layout or if I can pick what info I can see.

internet doesn't work with USB C charger

My Super V doesn't connect to the internet when it's plugged into USB C charger for power supply.

As soon as I unplug it, the internet works fine and fast~!

Does anyone know why and a good solution to this problem?

Old IBR vs. RAP for 2014 graduate, over $400K loans, current balance $520K

Hi, I graduated a dental school in 2014 with $400K, and about 7.5% interest.

I was on PAYE, paying about $1000 a month while the interest was $80 a day and $2400 a month. Basically, my interest accrued for the last 12 yrs and now the total balance is about $520K.

I went from PAYE to SAVE back to PAYE. I could have stayed on SAVE during forbearance but saw no reason to do so as I wanted to lower the total payment count.

I am currently on PAYE, but I understand I will soon have to switch to either old IBR or RAP.

I understand that the new IBR is pretty much the same as PAYE but I graduated in 2014 so I only have option for either old IBR or RAP.

I don't know what would be the better option between these two.

FYI, I got married last year, my wife is also in PAYE, but she graduated after 2014 so she has options for new IBR vs. RAP.

As far as I understand, RAP is 30 year program vs, old IBR 25 year program. I basically have to pay either 5 more years or 10 more years compared to 20 yrs of PAYE.

I make around $250K a year.

RAP is 10% of income per month so I guess that would be $2500 a month and the interest is waived. Not that it matters since I am paying $100 more than the monthly interest.

Old IBR is 15% of discretionary income, which I don't know how much or if it's more or less than $2500. And the interest accrued. With PAYE (10% of discretionary income, I currently pay around $1550 a month so 15% would be around $2250?).

5 extra year for RAP means $2500 a month x 12 months x 5 = $150K

old IBR I pay close to what I would pay for RAP (2250 vs 2500), I don't have to worry about paying $150K for the additional 5 year but the interest would accrued (not much though because monthly interest is $2400 so that's only $150 a month)

Do you think old IBR is better for me?

According to the counter, I have made 125 payment out of 300 and still have 175 more payments to go, but the total number would change from 300 to maybe 360 payments with old IBR or 420 payments for RAP.

How long before they ship?

I ordered mine on the last Saturday. Today is Tuesday and they havent shipped it yet. How was your experience and how long did it take to ship and arrive? They also had an option for custom and I have no idea what each option meant but I picked the one that says recommended. Do they charge you extra for this using the same credit card?

Reason not to get 2025 model?

Considering how it is $1500 cheaper than 2026 model when they share the same ram, gpu, and almost identical cpu, is there a reason not to get 2025 model G14?

For example, issues I have heard include fan noise, hinge ribbon, brightness, and small ventilation holes.

Here are my questions.
Is the fan noise annoying even during silent mode? I don’t care about max performance and I will most likely stick with silent mode and play games either at 40fps locked or 45-60 fps with VRR. Would it still overheat, or make a high pitch fan noise? I will even set the max tdp low or set the max temperature to limit it from burning.

And what is the hinge problem with ribbon? Does the laptop break if you touch the display and open?

Can I use locked 40fps?

I usually prefer 60fps but I would rather choose to play at 40fps on handheld if I could reduce the heat, fan noise, and battery.

But I have not seen anyone using locked 40fps on any of onexplayer devices.

So here are my questions.

Since super x and v use 120hz display, is it possible to get locked 40fps? What are the necessary steps for this?

And if my goal is to use 25W TDP and fps fluctuates between 40-60fps, would it offer better motion than locked 40fps thanks to VRR? And is that why people don’t lock the fps to 40fps and just focus on setting their desirable TDP?

Do you guys prefer gaming tablet (Super V or X) over gaming laptops?

Laptops are more affordable, powerful, and also has an option for DLSS so it is close to desktop experience.

However, I want something more portable, yet stronger than legion go 2.

Things I don't like about laptops is that they double in size when you unfold the keyboard, the screen touches the keyboard when you fold them and become dirty, I don't like the keyboard and touchpad in general and prefer to just touch the screen or use the screen keyboard like iphone, and don't understand the idea of ventilation hole at the bottom which everyone seems to hate and use something to lift laptops off the table for better air flow.

I was thinking that Onexplayer Mini X2 is probably what I want, but the price is most likely around $3000 (compared to $1800 Super V), larger screen for V/X is probably better than smaller screen, and I have heard that included controllers are generally bad for these portable machines so I will most likely end up getting a controller anyway.

For these reasons, do you think Super V is probably what I need to get?

In terms of performance, I am looking to use 30~45W to run games (Pragmata, RE requiem, RE4 remake) at 45~60FPS VRR at 1080p or higher.
