Will this case make a change in Indian Laws?

A settlement was arrived at for 15 Lacs. 7 lacs paid. 7.5 lacs were pending. Sambhav had spent 40 Lacs on the baby's treatment and financial pressures continued to mount.

Now his father IS LEGALLY OBLIGED to pay remaining 7.5 lakh rupees to his wife.

  • a young man, Sambhav Jain, died by suicide in Noida’s Supernova Society due to alimony demands of 1 crore rupees, stating he had already paid 7 lakhs, and harshly criticizes his ex-wife.
  • Police and news reports confirm Jain faced severe financial stress from debt, recent divorce, and 30-35 lakh in medical bills for a premature child, with some outlets noting an additional 7.5 lakh alimony obligation.

Is POCSO really gender neutral?

POCSO is usually presented as India's gender neutral sexual offence law because it defines a child as any person below 18 and frequently uses words like "person", "whoever" and "child".

POCSO ACT

But look beyond the label and some uncomfortable contradictions appear.

The interesting part is that these contradictions are not things nobody noticed. Questions about male victims and gendered drafting were raised during the legislative process itself. Yet some of them remain even today.

1. A gender neutral law that says "he penetrates his penis"

Section 3 begins perfectly neutrally:

"A person is said to commit penetrative sexual assault..."

Then immediately says:

"he penetrates his penis..."

and continues with "he", "his" and "him".

The obvious question is: if the perpetrator can be male or female, why wasn't it drafted in gender neutral language in the first place?

More importantly, this issue was actually raised before POCSO was enacted.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee's 240th Report records an objection that the definitions of sexual offences showed "a male bias, ignoring the fact that even a boy could be a victim."

The Committee did not say the criticism was imaginary. Instead, it relied on the General Clauses Act and said masculine words can legally include females.

That might make "he" include "she" as a matter of statutory interpretation.

But it does not magically make "his penis" anatomically gender neutral.

And this is not merely a theoretical drafting debate anymore.

A female accused has already used this wording in court

In Archana Patil v. State of Karnataka, a woman was accused of sexually assaulting a 13 year old boy who allegedly visited her for art lessons.

She specifically argued that Sections 3(1)(a) to 3(1)(c) were gender specific and therefore could not apply to a female accused.

The Karnataka High Court rejected that argument and held that POCSO is gender neutral.

But she went to the Supreme Court.

On 8 October 2025, her senior counsel again argued that Sections 3(1)(a) to 3(1)(c) were gender specific and had no application to her.

The Supreme Court issued notice and ordered:

"In the meantime, further proceedings before the Trial Court shall remain stayed."

So the trial of a woman accused of sexually assaulting a minor boy was actually stayed while the Supreme Court examines an ambiguity that Parliament was warned about before POCSO was enacted.

That does not mean she has been acquitted or that the Supreme Court has accepted her argument. The stay is interim.

But it is a very real procedural benefit arising from wording that should never have been ambiguous in a supposedly gender neutral law.

The Delhi High Court had earlier taken the opposite view in Sundari Gautam v. State of NCT of Delhi, holding that the word "person" makes the provision applicable irrespective of the offender's gender.

And that is precisely the problem.

Why should courts have to resolve whether "a person...he...his penis" includes a woman at all?

Parliament could have fixed this years ago simply by writing "such person" and defining the prohibited acts without unnecessary gendered pronouns.

It did not.

2. Apparently even the dignity of a child victim is not completely gender neutral

Now look at Section 27 dealing with medical examination.

It specifically says:

"In case the victim is a girl child, the medical examination shall be conducted by a woman doctor."

That safeguard is completely understandable.

A sexually assaulted girl may feel extremely uncomfortable undergoing intimate examination by a male doctor.

But where is the equivalent statutory safeguard for a boy?

There is none.

POCSO does not say that a boy should be examined by a male doctor or even that he should have the option of choosing the sex of the doctor with whom he feels comfortable.

So:

Girl victim: express same-sex doctor protection.

Boy victim: no corresponding statutory right.

Why?

Does a boy who has been sexually assaulted not experience embarrassment, trauma, bodily privacy or fear during genital or anal examination?

Interestingly, the Parliamentary scrutiny itself shows that stakeholders understood that gender can matter to a traumatised child. They suggested that statements of girls should be recorded by women police officers and statements of boys by male officers.

Yet the final medical-examination provision expressly protected one sex and not the other.

I have not found a reported judgment where a female accused was acquitted specifically because a boy was examined without a male doctor. So this should not be falsely presented as an acquittal loophole.

It is something arguably more basic: a statutory victim-protection asymmetry built directly into a law advertised as gender neutral.

3. Then the boy turns 18 and India's "gender neutrality" simply disappears

Suppose an adult woman sexually violates a 17 year old boy.

POCSO can apply.

Now imagine substantially the same non-consensual penetrative sexual act after his 18th birthday.

POCSO disappears because he is no longer a child.

You would expect India's ordinary rape law to take over.

It doesn't.

Section 63 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita says:

"A man is said to commit 'rape' if he..."

and defines the victim throughout as a woman.

So an adult male simply does not occupy the same legal position as an adult female rape victim.

This produces an absurd protection cliff.

At 17 years and 364 days, an adult woman can potentially face POCSO for sexually assaulting him.

Once he turns 18, Section 63 does not recognise him as a rape victim and does not recognise her as the principal perpetrator of rape.

Other general offences may apply depending on what happened, but that avoids the central question:

Why is non-consensual sexual penetration called rape when the victim is a woman but not when the victim is a man?

And this time Parliament cannot plausibly say nobody warned them

This is where the argument becomes much stronger.

While examining the new BNS in 2023, the Parliamentary Standing Committee expressly noticed that deletion of IPC Section 377 would leave a gap.

Its 246th Report stated that the proposed BNS contained no provision for non-consensual sexual offences against male, female or transgender persons of the type previously covered by the surviving part of Section 377.

The Committee went even further.

It said that, in order to fulfil the stated objective of moving towards gender neutral offences, it was "mandatory to reintroduce and retain" Section 377 and specifically recommended that the Government include it.

The BNS was nevertheless enacted without an equivalent provision.

So this is not a problem discovered on Reddit after the law was passed.

Parliament's own Standing Committee identified the gap before enactment and recommended fixing it. The final law still left it out.

That makes it very difficult to describe the present situation simply as an accidental oversight.

There are already cases showing how female accused benefit from gender specific rape law

This principle is not hypothetical either.

In Priya Patel v. State of Madhya Pradesh (2006), the Supreme Court considered a female accused who was charged with gang rape.

According to the prosecution allegations, her husband was raping the victim. The victim asked Priya Patel to save her, but Patel allegedly slapped her, closed the door and left.

The Supreme Court nevertheless held that because rape under Section 375 IPC could only be committed by a man, the woman could not be prosecuted for gang rape under Section 376(2)(g).

The gang rape charge against her was therefore set aside, although the Court left open the possibility of other liability such as abetment.

Whatever one thinks of the facts of that particular case, the legal advantage is undeniable:

her sex itself prevented prosecution for the rape offence charged against her.

And the basic perpetrator/victim gender structure that produced that result has survived into Section 63 of the BNS: man as rapist, woman as rape victim.

There was another example before the Supreme Court in 2023 involving a 61 year old woman who had been booked along with her son in a rape case. Her lawyer specifically relied on the argument that a woman cannot be charged with rape, and the Supreme Court granted her interim protection from arrest while agreeing to examine the issue. Again, that was interim relief, not a final declaration of innocence.

So when people say these gendered definitions are harmless because courts will "interpret them properly", the litigation history suggests otherwise.

The wording itself creates arguments, litigation and sometimes tangible procedural relief that would simply not exist if Parliament had drafted the offence gender neutrally.

So is POCSO really gender neutral?

In many important respects, yes.

A boy is legally a child.

A female offender is not generally immune from POCSO.

Sections 7, 9, 11 and many other provisions are capable of applying regardless of the offender's sex.

And courts such as the Delhi and Karnataka High Courts have interpreted penetrative sexual assault provisions as applying to women too.

But that is formal neutrality.

Substantive gender neutrality requires more.

A genuinely neutral framework would not:

call the offender "a person" and then describe that person as "he penetrates his penis";

expressly guarantee a girl a woman doctor while providing no corresponding choice to a sexually assaulted boy;

protect a male against serious penetrative sexual assault while he is 17 but then refuse to recognise him as a possible rape victim once he becomes 18;

and retain gender specific rape provisions even after a Parliamentary Standing Committee expressly warned that adult male victims would be left without an equivalent sexual-offence provision.

Perhaps most importantly, these issues cannot all be dismissed as innocent drafting mistakes.

The male-bias objection to POCSO was recorded during scrutiny of the original Bill.

The ambiguous wording survived.

POCSO was amended later.

The ambiguity survived.

Courts then had to interpret it.

And when India replaced its entire 163 year old Penal Code with the BNS, Parliament's own Standing Committee again explicitly pointed out the absence of protection for male victims and recommended correcting it.

The final legislation still did not do so.

I cannot prove from these documents that individual lawmakers intended to discriminate against male victims.

But I think it is perfectly fair to say this:

the continued asymmetry is no longer reasonably describable as something nobody noticed.

When the problem is repeatedly identified, Parliament is repeatedly given an opportunity to correct it, and it repeatedly remains in the statute, asking whether India's supposedly gender neutral sexual offence framework is truly gender neutral is not misogyny.

It is a legitimate equality question.

Was I wrong all along?

Today I realized something, and it really affected my perception on feminism. There were some people on social media, not influencers necessarily, whom I used to consider true feminist or people who really believe in equality, for both, men and women.

After seeing their social media history, their comments, and their behavior towards people in general, I realized that I was wrong all along. They aren't the kind of feminists that I thought they were.

The only difference between them and others was that, other "feminists" were more upfront with their man-hating and misandry, while these people, were well spoken, with the exception being that they would argue in bad faith.

They will never point out misandry, but they will always point out misogyny.

They might have past trauma due to incidents that caused them pain, or they might have bad experiences with men in the past, and now, they have become blind to misandry.

They will say "yes, extremists are bad" but they will never point out misandry that exists around them. Because they know that they will experience a massive backlash, or, they are actually and secretly, happy that misandry exists. They enjoy men's pain and suffering.

No matter how much apparent it becomes to people, no matter how good they seem to be, I think, we really cannot trust anyone.

The only reason they act rational is because they will get de-platformed or banned if they do not act that way. The only reason these people talk politely and respectfully is because they are manipulative in nature.

Today, I realized that, these people, whom I considered to be true feminists, they do not actually believe in equality. In their mind, men will always be bad, inferior to women. If you ask them about any situation, the answer would be, "yeah men are worse actually".

No matter how much anti feminism I have been my entire life, I have always had a deep respect towards women who actually practiced what feminism stands for.

But now I realize, deep down, I just wanted to prove to myself that feminism is good. There are real feminists out there. There women who actually hold both, men and women, equally accountable. There women who want legal responsibilities in marriage.

Maybe, some day, I wanted to be a feminist too. Deep down, I didn't want to believe that women from the bottom of their heart, hate men as living beings, humans, and individuals.

Questions for the members of this sub:

  1. Has your perception on feminism changed negatively?
  2. Are there any life experiences of people close to you, displaying manipulation tactics by acting polite?
  3. Have you struggled in trusting women, at any point of time in your life?

Why is society so strictly against the public representation of male victims?

"for every one male victim, there are 1000 female victims" "ever seen women forcefully groping men, or making them feel uncomfortable?" "Women are being tortured for centuries but suddenly, everyone is sympathizing for male victims" These are the things we often hear when the topic is male victimization. People find it pretty hard to grasp that men can be victims of women, and even when they acknowledge it, they still think that it's such a rare case. Everyone talk about stats, stats saying that male victims are small minority, and sometimes, there aren't even any stats, so people just recite the common saying "for every men, there are 1000 women being tortured" I'm not saying they're wrong, but we can't also say if they're right.

To know a fair gap between male and female victimization, we need fair studies, researches and surveys on both the sides. Currently, there aren't enough surveys and studies for male victimization to compare it with female victimization, when some countries don't even measure male victims, then obviously gap between male and female victimization is gonna be huge, because one side is not even measured properly.

Now, people throw around stats saying "men=violent, women=victims" but what happens when researchers find something different.... Something complicated, something which don't follow the common narrative of "men=preparators, women=helpless victims"? They get public backlash and Harrassment, and death threats. There were a few researchers in past who made a research about similiar prevalence of female and male violence, and suggests that domestic violence isn't necessarily strictly gendered issue of male patriarchy. Those researchers were:

Erin Pizzey, an internationally recognized pioneer who established the world's first domestic violence shelter, Chiswick Women's Aid, in London in 1971. Through extensive intake surveys, she found that 62% of the women entering her shelter were "violence-prone" and equally or more violent than the men they left. She asserted that domestic abuse is relational and rooted in childhood trauma rather than a strictly gendered issue of male patriarchy. After publishing her findings in her 1982 book Prone to Violence and proposing shelters for abused men, she faced severe backlash from militant factions. This included massive protests, bomb threats, and death threats that required police to intercept her mail and escort her during book tours. The intense harassment ultimately forced her to leave the UK for her safety.

Dr. Murray Straus & Dr. Richard Gelles, highly influential American sociologists who co-founded the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire. In 1975 and 1985, they conducted the landmark National Family Violence Surveys. They utilized the Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS) and discovered nearly equal rates of physical aggression initiated by men and women in intimate relationships, a concept known as gender symmetry in domestic violence. Their findings fiercely contradicted the prevailing political models of the era. Dr. Straus was subjected to systemic academic boycotts, shouted down at conferences, and received numerous death threats. Dr. Gelles also documented receiving death threats, bomb scares directed at his lecture halls, and coordinated campaigns demanding his termination from his academic post.

Dr. Suzanne Steinmetz, an American sociologist who worked alongside Straus and Gelles. In 1977, she published a groundbreaking study explicitly titled "The Battered Husband Syndrome," bringing empirical attention to the hidden prevalence of severely abused men. Following the publication, Steinmetz faced severe personal and professional terrorization. Radical groups issued bomb threats to her university, threatened her children's lives, and successfully pressured organizations to revoke her research funding and speaking invitations.

All these people were bashed, harrassed and recieved death threats just because their findings claimed something different than the common societal narrative. And also the backlash wasn't necessarily because the findings were wrong or misleading, yeah methodology in some cases was criticised by some other researchers but another reason for such massive public backlash for these people was fear of shattering the common narrative and hence withdrawing attention and funding for female victims. Some radicalized feminist groups and their leaders sent direct threats and physical intimidation to these researchers, and the researchers were forced hide their findings from public. I get their fear of withdrawal of attention from female victims but it's still screwed up to literally send murder threats to someone who find high prevalence of male victimization because you see it as a threat to your own group πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ.

22 years in jail?

The case dates back to 2004, involving the brutal murder of three womenβ€”Kamala, Sonbari, and Ratanaiβ€”in Odisha's Nabarangpur district.

The police arrested Arjun Jani purely on mere suspicion. They allegedly used third-degree methods to extract an inadmissible confession during interrogation.

The prosecution's case rested entirely on a single eyewitness.

The trial court failed to properly evaluate the weak evidence and forensic flaws.

At the 12-year mark of his incarceration, the Orissa High Court dismissed Jani's jail appeal solely because of a 3,157-day procedural delay.

The Supreme Court later deemed this testimony "shaky, inconsistent, and highly improbable," given that the crime happened at night in an area with no electricity.

The Supreme Court heavily criticized the trial court and the Orissa High Court for their handling of the matter.
The top court noted that the High Court remained a "mute spectator".

The Supreme Court of India acquitted Arjun Jani on 4th August 2026, an Odisha man who spent 22 years in prison for a triple murder he did not commit, calling the case a "collective failure" of the country's criminal justice system.

Because 22 years were wrongly erased from Jani's life, the Supreme Court ordered the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Koraput and the local district administration to immediately assist in his rehabilitation and resettlement.

WHAT DO A COMMON MAN DO IF HE HAS TO SPEND 22 YEARS BEHIND BARS WITHOUT ANY FAULT OF HIS JUST BECAUSE THE WOMEN ARE NOT PUNISHED FOR FALSE CASES? ??

Why are women openly allowed to promote kicking the genitals of a man? Why is it that one side has legal protection, while the other doesn't?

The attached screenshot represents something that is treated far too casually: encouraging or joking about kicking a man in the genitals as punishment, revenge, or entertainment.

When genital violence against men is promoted without such a threat, and people dismiss it as harmless comedy instead of recognizing it as physical assault.

Violence against women deserves strong legal and social protection. But supporting those protections should not require us to ignore violence against men. A person’s genitals should not become an acceptable target merely because the victim is male. The principle should be straightforward: deliberate physical violence is wrong regardless of the offender’s or victim’s gender.

My question is mainly for people familiar with Indian law: what legal remedies are available when a woman deliberately attacks a man’s genitals? Are the relevant assault provisions genuinely gender-neutral in law and in practice? Where protections are not equivalent, what is the justification for that distinction?

This is not intended to become a men-versus-women argument. It is a question about equal bodily autonomy, equal accountability, and whether society applies the same standard when the victim is a man.

9. Create a Community Resource Pool [ VERY IMPORTANT ADDITION ]

TwoXIndia maintains separate FAQ, helpline and user-submitted resource collections.

10. Add a Plain-Language Legal Disclaimer

[ VERY IMPORTANT ADDITION ]

LegalAdviceIndia prominently states that Reddit responses are informational and not a substitute for advice from a local advocate.

Recommended sidebar notice

Legal discussions are for general information. Laws, procedures and case outcomes depend on the facts and jurisdiction. Verify information through official sources or a qualified advocateThis should appear above the legal-resource linksβ€”not buried inside a rule.

11. Publish a Rule Changelog

AskHistorians preserves detailed rule explanations and rules discussions.

RULE CHANGELOG

β”œβ”€β”€ Date
β”œβ”€β”€ What changed
β”œβ”€β”€ Why it changed
β”œβ”€β”€ What remains allowed
└── Review date

This prevents:

  • Silent rule changes.
  • Conflicting moderator interpretations.
  • Users relying on outdated screenshots.
  • Unclear enforcement transitions.

12. Retain Hidden Early Vote Scores

AskIndianMen currently hides comment scores for approximately 170 minutes. Other large discussion communities also hide early scoresβ€”from 120 minutes in AskMen and OutOfTheLoop to substantially longer periods in AskWomen, ChangeMyView and ELI5.

Recommended:

Slightly reduce it to 120 to 150 minutes
            ↓
Explain it nowhere prominently
            ↓
Let early opinions develop independently

No stricter setting is necessary.

13. Remove the β€œQuestions Only” Requirement

  • Support-seeking posts
  • Constructive criticism

14. Improvements for the Existing Rules

While the existing rules are good, it is sometimes difficult to understand them, and when exactly they are useful. Rules should be more professional, explained in a simple manner. The current rule system is honestly, very confusing and hard to navigate. It is also very unorganzied. Needs a complete rework in terms of presentation and context.

Strict Prohibition of Misandry

Hatred, contempt, prejudice or dehumanisation directed at men or boys is prohibited.

Remove content that:

  • Uses anti-male slurs.
  • Calls men worthless, disposable or inherently dangerous.
  • Celebrates male suffering, injury, suicide or death.
  • Mocks male victims of abuse, violence or false allegations.
  • Claims men cannot be victims.
  • Assigns collective guilt to men.
  • Advocates discrimination against men.
  • Advocates against men’s rights
  • Enters male-support discussions only to invalidate them.
  • Treats boys or men as collectively responsible for individual wrongdoing.
  • β€œMan up.” , β€œHe deserved it.”, β€œMen cannot be abused.”
  • Mocking male loneliness or vulnerability.
  • Ridiculing men for seeking emotional support.
  • Repeatedly redirecting male issues toward another demographic.

Criticism of one man β†’ Allowed
Criticism of male behaviour β†’ Allowed
Criticism of laws or culture β†’ Allowed
Contempt for men as a class β†’ Removed

Moderate Conduct, Not Opinions

Allow

  • Unpopular opinions.
  • Strong disagreement.
  • Criticism of feminism.
  • Criticism of laws and institutions.
  • Politically incorrect views.
  • Blunt but substantive language.
  • Criticism of individual men or women.
  • Good-faith generalisations supported by reasoning.

Remove

  • Direct personal abuse.
  • Threats or wishes of harm.
  • Dehumanisation.
  • Targeted harassment.
  • Misandrist contempt.
  • Victim mockery.
  • Deliberate disruption.
  • Doxxing or coordinated attacks.

Light-Touch Comment Guidance

Automation should not interrupt normal participation. There have been several complaints of unnecessary comment and post auto removal, and this discourages people from coming to this sub.

Avoid:

  • Rebranding the entire subreddit as exclusively MRA.

  • Party-political alignment.
  • Activist-only imagery.

17. Men’s-Rights Resource Directory

Create a sidebar or wiki section titled:

Include:

  • Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj

Verify official handles before publishing them.

18. Allow Broader Community Content

r/AskIndianMen should not be limited only to questions and serious discussions. A healthy community should also allow lighter, useful and recurring content that encourages members to participate regularly.

Allow:

  • Memes relevant to Indian men, male experiences, work, relationships, family, society and everyday life.
  • Posts regarding sports like cricket, football, etc.
  • Finance-related discussions, including personal finance, careers, salaries, savings, investing, taxation and financial planning.
  • Regular community threads.
  • Informative, entertaining or discussion-worthy videos.
  • Positive, humorous and relatable male content similar to content posted in communities such as r/GuysBeingDudes.
  • Casual posts that encourage community interaction without requiring every post to contain a formal question.

Suggested Post Flairs

MEMES β”‚ FINANCE β”‚ VIDEO β”‚ CASUAL β”‚ COMMUNITY THREAD
CAREER & MONEY β”‚ GUYS BEING DUDES β”‚ WEEKLY DISCUSSION

Finance-related posts should remain informational and discussion-based. Members should be encouraged to verify financial information independently and consult a qualified professional where necessary.

19. Introduce Regular Community Threads

Recurring threads can create predictable opportunities for participation and prevent the subreddit from depending entirely on individual question posts.

Possible Regular Threads:

  • Weekly Casual Discussion Thread.
  • Monthly Finance and Career Thread.
  • Men’s Mental-Health Check-In.
  • Weekend Memes and Light-Hearted Content Thread.
  • Relationship and Marriage Discussion Thread.
  • Fitness, Health and Self-Improvement Thread.
  • Fatherhood and Family Thread.
  • Workplace Problems and Career Advice Thread.
  • Monthly Suggestions and Moderator Feedback Thread.
  • Positive Male Experiences and Achievements Thread.

Regular thread
      ↓
Predictable participation
      ↓
Stronger community habits
      ↓
Higher member retention

20. Build Brother-Subreddit Relationships

Ask moderators of compatible communities to recognise or mention r/AskIndianMen as a brother sub, related community or recommended community where appropriate.

Possible Collaboration Methods:

  • Add r/AskIndianMen to related-subreddit lists.
  • Mention it in community wikis or sidebars.
  • Redirect relevant male-focused questions to r/AskIndianMen.
  • Participate in approved cross-community discussion threads.
  • Organise occasional collaborative posts, AMAs or awareness threads.
  • Maintain reciprocal links where the communities are relevant and moderation standards are compatible.

Suitable Categories:

  • Indian discussion communities.
  • Men’s support communities.
  • Personal-finance and career communities.
  • Relationship and family communities.
  • Mental-health communities.
  • Legal-information communities.
  • Fitness, fatherhood and self-improvement communities.
  • Regional and NRI communities.

Any outreach should be respectful and conducted through moderator-to-moderator communication. Avoid unsolicited promotion, repetitive cross-posting or behaviour that could be treated as spam.

Moderator outreach
        ↓
Relevant community partnership
        ↓
Sidebar, wiki or related-community mention
        ↓
Greater visibility and responsible growth

The objective should be cooperation between compatible communitiesβ€”not competition, brigading or indiscriminate promotion.

Why are men themselves the reason for all the problems faced by men? Why do we allow men to make fun of victims of rape? Is this what free speech means? Is this what we mean by allowing critical comments?

HOW THE FUCK DO MEN DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT MEN BEING RAPED AND MEN BEING FALSELY ACCUSED IS A FUCKING REAL PROBLEM? Men are arguing in comments deciding whether a 19 year old boy getting raped by a 40 year old is a problem or not. Men are against gender neutral laws when most countries have long started recognizing male victims of rape. Whats wrong with yall? What has happened to this sub? Whats wrong with men? How do we argue against women when men themselves are victim blaming?

With the growing trend of idol worship, do you think girls forget to have boundaries or decency? How would those Idols react to such behavior?

This has become impossible to ignore. Open any Indian women's space on Reddit, Twitter, or Instagram and you'll find two things running simultaneously: a steady stream of posts generalizing Indian men as creeps, entitled, unhygienic, emotionally unavailable, and unworthy of basic respect and an equally steady stream of posts worshipping Korean actors, K-pop idols, and Korean male leads as the pinnacle of what a man should be.

The same woman who tweets "Indian men are an embarrassment" has a Pinterest board full of Korean drama screenshots captioned "my husband."

Let's not pretend this isn't a pattern. It's loud, it's public, and it deserves an honest conversation.

Here's what makes it worth examining seriously rather than just getting angry about. The Korean men being worshipped are fictional characters or heavily manufactured celebrity personas. The emotional availability, the romantic attentiveness, the perfectly groomed appearance, the patient pursuit these are products of a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry engineered specifically to be aspirational. Real Korean men, by all accounts including from Korean women themselves, are navigating their own deeply patriarchal society with high rates of misogyny documented domestically.

But that reality never enters the conversation. Because the comparison isn't between real Indian men and real Korean men. It's between real Indian men flawed, ordinary, human and a fictional Korean archetype optimized to be irresistible. That comparison is rigged from the start. And yet it's being used to justify blanket contempt for an entire group of real people.

Imagine the reverse. Imagine Indian men running public pages calling Indian women collectively disgusting, unworthy, and embarrassing while simultaneously idolizing foreign women as superior. The response would be immediate and institutional. The NCW would issue statements. It would be called misogyny, xenophilia, and self-hatred. Careers would end.

When Indian women do the equivalent to Indian men, it gets hundreds of thousands of likes and is called "speaking your truth."

That double standard is the real discussion.

The K-pop and K-drama obsession is fine on its own. Entertainment is entertainment. But when it becomes the benchmark against which real men are publicly humiliated and found permanently wanting, it stops being harmless fandom and starts being something worth naming.

Indian men are not perfect. No group is. Genuine criticism of real problems is fair and necessary. But collective contempt disguised as cultural preference isn't criticism. It's just prejudice with a better soundtrack.

Questions for the members of this sub.

  1. Why is public contempt for Indian men as a group socially acceptable in spaces that would immediately call out the same contempt directed at Indian women?

  2. Is the comparison between real Indian men and fictional Korean characters a fair standard or is it a rigged game that no real man from any country could win?

  3. Have you personally experienced being dismissed or compared unfavorably to Korean celebrities by Indian women and how did it affect you?

  4. Why do you think some Indian women express such strong preference for a foreign cultural ideal while expressing contempt for men from their own country?

  5. Does this pattern reflect something Indian men and Indian society need to genuinely address or is it primarily a social media distortion that doesn't reflect reality on the ground?
