ROB 2 tool for SR and MA of RCTs

Hi. I’m doing an SR and MA on the safety and efficacy of a certain group of drugs.

It’s a big study with a lot of outcomes. I wanna use Rob 2 since Rob 1 is outdated but I see many other SR and MAs on PubMed attaching only a single risk of bias figure for all the studies included when I thought each major outcome had to have its own risk of bias figure across each study under Rob 2, which assess each outcome on its own, as opposed to Rob 1 where each domain assesses the study itself, not an outcome of it.

Can anyone explain why or how this is done? Do they just choose one outcome in each study to fill the domains for that whole study or do they only do this when all outcomes under one study have the same domain assessment so that a single figure would represent all the risk of bias assessment of the outcomes in that study? (e.g., hba1c and QoL having a yes in D3).

Please help. Thanks in advance :)

Marrying someone infertile?

I’m a man and the woman I might be getting married to is infertile. My family are fine with it but I’m curious what is life like for such marriages? Especially later down the line when both of us are old. I guess that’s the only scary part. We could take in orphans and we likely will.

How fast do you all drive?

So, I just came back from an 1h15min drive (118 km) and it just got me thinking what speed should one drive?

I usually try to drive the fastest speed I could (140 km/h on the highway I usually take) but I’m starting to feel like 120 might be a better speed.

Why? Because for some reason the steering wheel on my 2007 car (370k km on the odometer) keeps “vibrating” whenever I get to 140 and it makes driving the car tiresome. Like I need to put more effort to keep it straight. I’ll have it checked by a mechanic but I digress.

Anyways, I just feel like the only reason I even drive 140 is because of peer pressure and my friends thinking I’m chicken for not driving the maximum posted speed and the fact it gets me home faster, but at this point I feel like my comfort comes first. What do you all think?

How many of you guys are in favor of a Maghreb union

Honestly, personally, I think we’re better off united than divided and each country in the union has something to contribute. Mauritania, for instance, is rich in various form of natural resources like gold, iron, gas, fish etc. With proper resource management, I’m pretty sure we’ll bring more to the table.

Initially, I was under the impression that all countries had to be rich to form a union but then I realized how ridiculous that idea is. The whole point of any union is prosperity and development. If a country, especially like Mauritania with the small population of 4 million, were prosperous, it may not want to join a union since the goal of prosperity has already been achieved.

Most successful unions we have today already have countries with various gaps in development and wealth, all of which play important roles in the union. Take the US for example. You have states that receive more funding than they contribute but Americans of rich states don’t mind because in a union like the US you’re all one, so a Floridian wouldn’t mind money being spent on, say, West Virginia because being a citizen of the US means that he also belongs to WG and could move there if he wanted if it progressed.

I’m just dying to be in a union, if not the Maghreb, any other union in Africa. I’ve been hoping for this union to get activated and actually become a thing for YEARS. I’m already on track to migrate to the US and at this point I’ll probably become a US citizen before the Maghreb union becomes a thing if it ever does.

This is mostly just a rant. This is something I’ve wanted for so long so bad yet I think I’ll never get to see it.

I wish I could become a dispatcher

I’ve always been a huge fan of crime documentaries and enjoy reading about all the crazy cases. Today I was watching a video on the most disturbing 911 dispatcher calls and it just ignited my love for this profession.

I know that not all the calls you guys get are serious or like a lot of them could be mundane but I just like being there for people, especially in their weak moments.

Now, I’m already going into my last year of medical school so I can’t just change paths and I can still be there for people in their weak moments as a doctor but I guess it may not be on the same scale as dispatchers.

I guess I could become a forensic pathologist and be involved in crimes and stuff but that’s not helping people as much since forensic pathologists usually work with dead bodies.

Anyways, I guess becoming a dispatcher for me will always remain a dream or maybe I could retire early and pursue a career as a dispatcher. Thank you for the great work you do!

Google maps gave me the wrong direction multiple times!

I’m so pissed.

Last night I was on what was supposed to be an hour and a half trip but turned into 3 hours because maps kept giving me wrong directions and rerouting!

Like I’d be on a road and the road kinda splits into two and when I should take the right, maps tells me to keep going straight and then reroutes like what!

Anyways, I’m wondering if I switched to Waze, would I still have this issue? I’m traumatized by Google maps now.

School should have a car care basics course

It kinda pisses me off that there are many valuable skills that aren’t taught in school. Like cars for example.

Most people drive cars, so it’s important that they know how to spot car problems like exhaust leak or misalignment etc.

I know this falls on the parents but not all parents are good parents and would teach their kids this stuff. Especially since this can be dangerous. Just two weeks ago a grandmother and 4 young kids died while waiting for help in their car after a flat tire because of an exhaust leak and CO poising.

Maybe if more people knew how to spot these, it could have been prevented.

Dad insists on driving this to the garage

Car was parked at home then we woke up to this. Told him we could change it at home and was told “it was his car so he knew better”.

Edit: we do have a perfect spare btw but he wouldn’t let me change the flat tire at home.

Anyone sleep for 16 hours?

Sleep is among the very few things that bring me joy now. I always have dreams. I usually sleep for like 8-9 hours but sometimes if I’m really depressed it can go up to 14-16 hours but I haven’t been able to maintain that every day. Is there a way I can keep sleeping for 16 hours a day every day?

Religious OCD is the worst OCD theme I’ve ever had

I’m Muslim. I’ve had scrupulosity for the last 5 months and it has been literal torture.

I keep questioning if everything is prohibited. Even when told a certain thing isn’t, I still somewhat feel scared it might be. I feel scared 24/7 that I’ll be punished for my sins, which I’m trying to quit, so much so that I can’t function like usual, just enough to keep my job.

I get headaches all the time from the stress.

Whenever I’m about to do something, my brain tries to find something that would make it prohibited. I hate the blasphemous thoughts.

I’m just so exhausted.

I’ve had other OCD themes before but this one in particular is really challenging because it involves the most important thing in my life, which is religion. If anyone had religious OCD before and had it treated, how did you manage to do that? Especially those of you that are also Muslim. Thanks in advance.

The worst part about mental health issues is the loneliness

You see everyone progressing in life yet you’re stuck.

The moment you vent to someone, they go silent for a few seconds or ask a simple question to act like they care before they completely change the subject. I don’t blame them. They are just trying to live their lives but it’s still tough.

You could talk to other people with mental health issues, but they are usually struggling themselves and don’t have much to offer.

Happy with the shift towards English!

Mauritanian here. Been to Algeria a few times (albeit that was more than a decade ago). Just wanted to say I’m happy to see that Algeria and other countries in the Maghreb area are switching to English.

Other than the fact it’s the linga franca of today’s world, it also helps connect the Maghreb with the rest of the Arab world.

I’ve lived my entire life in the Gulf and still do, so my French is basically nonexistent and French being the dominant language in the Maghreb area always deterred me from the region.

I think when English becomes the dominant language in the Maghreb instead of French, there will be more movement between the different regions of the Arab world like for university or work etc.

I hope with this shift in Algeria, other countries in the region (Mauritania included) will get inspired to make the move.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Did religious OCD make you a worse Muslim?

I’m just curious to see what kind of effect religious OCD has had on your dean.

Like I have quit anime and movies where there is glorification of magic, polythesism or blasphemy astaghfirullah so that’s good but it has also pushed me into depression and when I’m too depressed I tend to fall into some bad coping mechanisms like hanging out with bad friends (they smoke and curse out all the time). It’s also making me less productive in my job since I’m always mentally drained from all the overthinking and headaches so in a way I’m not as hard working as I’m usually.

It’s ironic because on the outside you’d think you’d be a better Muslim if you’re always paranoid about falling in haram and constantly checking things to see if they’re haram or not.

Share your thoughts and any advice in the comments down below. This disease is literally one of the worst out there but with hardship comes ease so inshallah one day things will be better XD.

How to advertise your product advice?

I’ve built a course teaching platform with a service that basically disables screenshots/recordings and downloads of course content in an attempt to limit theft/illegal leaks but I don’t know how to advertise it?

I think maybe targeting YouTube channels that cater to course creators could help since that’s my target audience but YouTube ads require a lot of money that I don’t have.

The only thing I think could help me now is social media advertising.

23M. Struggling with fear of Allah’s punishment to the point that it is destroying my life

About four months ago, I learned about the concept of “feeling safe from Allah’s punishment”. Before that, I used to think Allah SWT mainly punishes people in the Hereafter, so I delayed repentance for some sins because I assumed I had time.

After learning that Allah can test or punish a person in this life at any moment, I became extremely afraid and tried to leave my sins. Alhamdulillah, I quit many of them, but I haven’t been able to quit some of them because they involve major life decisions that are hard to make.

For example, I am a medical student living in a Muslim country where hospitals are mixed and some women are not dressed modestly. From what I understand, working in such an environment can be permissible if there is no realistic alternative, but now I constantly worry that I should move somewhere else where there is less sin, even if it harms my career.

I have also considered moving to the US to improve my medical training and bring benefit to Muslim communities, but I worry about situations like alcohol being present at conferences or having to prescribe medications that some scholars consider problematic.

The problem is that I now spend hours every day researching whether things are halal or haram. I can spend half a day checking whether something I saw, did, or thought about is sinful and then I’m too mentally drained and just lie in bed for the rest of the day. I used to study around 16 hours a day and loved it. Now I can barely study 3-4 hours a day before the anxiety (from knowing I’m constantly committing sins without repentance) becomes overwhelming.

I’m afraid that if I study, work, or live normally without constantly feeling terrified of Allah’s punishment (again, because of the constant sins I’m committing without repentance), I am falling into “feeling safe from Allah’s punishment.” I fear dying while I still have sins I haven’t repented from. My heart races, I get headaches, and eventually I become mentally exhausted and stop studying for a week.

I’m scared that even if I repent from the current sins I have, my mind will find new sins to worry about and the cycle will continue.

The ideal solution to my problem would be a place where I wouldn’t have to constantly commit any sins. Only then would I feel safe that even if Allah SWT takes my soul while I’m immersed in studying/working, at least I have repented from all sins but moving to a place like that requires so much sacrifice and I find myself unable to leave my family and friends behind.

I’m considering speaking to a Muslim scholar, but I’m worried they might think I’m crazy or becoming a danger to society or unfit to continue my medical career. I don’t know what to do anymore. Has anyone experienced something similar, or can someone offer advice? I’m so lost. It hurts so much to see your days slipping away without being able to make use of them.

I’ve recently been getting waswas from shayitan that “I hate Islam because it’s getting in the way of my dreams”. I hate this idea and I wouldn’t hate Islam even if it did mean I had to give up on my dreams and I know it’s actually my sins, not Islam, that are getting in the way. Islam encourages people to learn medicine, not the other way around but I thought I’d bring up this point since hating Islam takes one out of the fold of Islam so the idea that this hate could be from me terrifies me (even though I know it’s waswas).
