So I needed a mid(bass) speaker + cabinet for a range 100+hz (115hz LR4 xo)) to about 1000hz to accompany my SKRAM subwoofers and 18sound ND3N CD+twinray printed horns (in this case taking over from 1000hz on an lr4 slope).

The aim was as small as possible and also ceiling mounted. Another negative factor. I built 2 32ltr plywood cabs but then ive seen guys reproduce reasonable bass cabinets, sub 50hz from a PLA printed cab, I had Claude made me a drawing for a 9ltr and started printing. It still is an experimental setup so bear with me, but yesterday I could put up the PLA printed cab and do some REW measurements vs the plywood cabinet at the other side of my room, also near the ceiling.

I have to say: the measurements are better than I expected. The PLA looks more flat and only sub 200 seems to fall off a bit more than the plywood. The ear doesnt hear it though. I decided to put up all the graphics tabs on here and let you decide for yourself. Do note: its still not a very loud test, and I also should do a same position A vs B test to see how much is room, room positioning etc. Of course the room itself also mixes in but sofar I am very positive and this is certainly not a failed experiment. The driver helps, an 18sound 10" 10NW750 the 16 ohm version.

The plywood cab measurements are noted as 'wood'' in rew, and the PLA cab as 'pla' or 'new''. The amplifier used is a Behringer inuke 6000 and the DSP used a minidsp flex eight. The pre amp is a quad 34. The microphone is a umik I. I made measurements on 3 positions but everything not SPL is form position 1. I did include an averaged from the 3 positions, and the single spl measurement form position 1.

So I needed some more class D powahh for my SKRAM 21” B&C 21DS115-8 loaded subwoofers, and my 16ohm mid bass mid snd high diy solutions. I figured: why not add couple of 1U cheap class d stompers instead of expensive hypex or purify. I ended up buying a few units like the sinbosen k4-1000 (12.000 rpm mini fans) a cvr d1004 in bridge, now blasting 2x3400 @8 ohm and done others but I hadnt thought about how loud (sinbosen) these guys are even at idle. So i took out the stock fans for noctua but they need the full 12v when at idle both smps fan rail only gives 5.7 volt. Enter my 3d printer. I started with 40mm noctuas on separate power adapter but wasnt enough. Then i build a 120mm funnel for more fresh air, which helied but not enough. I then 3d printed a 40mm to 80mm for 1 fan, then 2 and finally added another 120mm next to those 80mm units to extract air. Finally that helped and now they are as quiet as can be, next to my quad 606 passive cooled amp lump for the hf. So i can pump up the jam when i want, or chill on some Sonny Rollins.

Cvr d-1004:2x3400 watt in bridge ($650 new)
Behringer inuke 6000: 2x1200-ish watt (dude gave it to me for free)
Quad 606: 2x140 watt (1985!)

For future projects:
Sinbosen k4-1000: 4x1000 watt (€440)

I count about 30-32 channels. I cant really figure out how they run their stacks but it looks like 4 scoops, 2 low cabs, 4 mid bass and a double hf config. Some of them in series so im guessing 7 or 8 channels per stack needed.

They had 4 stacks in this run. I see 4 pf14000 with all of them added cooling fans on the outside(!!). Then 5 2 channels amps i cant quite make out, 3 4 channels amps and 2 older amps with big vu meters.

Not all of them used so I think my 7-8 channels per stack per stack is too much. Either way, a lovely huuuuuge pile of amp power. The sheer love and diy nature oozes through. Mikey Dreads superb selecta skills is the sugar on top.

Does anybody have more info/correct me where im wrong?

So I took a huge gamble and invested a large sum of 113 euros (about 133 dollar) into the Alibaba Sono class D 4x1300 watt @ 8 ohm. I was intrigued it looked quite decent on pictures. Heatsinks and all. My inuke 6000 doesnt have those.

Got the amp for an extra 30 bucks within 2 weeks. Its heavy and feels sturdy. Little finishing details like st/parallel button didnt extrude the chassis. You need a screwdriver for that.

But the output was thereabouts what it promises. I reckon it put out about 4x800 watt per channel. Not the 1300 it is advertised with, and I aimed for 1000 watt but its at least 800 watt for sure and for this money, that is simply very good. None of the Chinese class D amps deliver what they promise, its always about 70% real output and this one is similar. The noise wasnt too bad even if its there but its a pa amp.

I then received my sinbosen k4-1000. Starting that one up sounds like a jetfighter. The Sono also isnt quiet but not so loud as the sinbosen. So it has better fans, and a little less output but for 1/4 of the price: this is a steal. It really is. Musically I measured zero difference with the more expensive Sinbosen. "" But will it run 10 hours flat out'' said a friend. I checked out the internals thoroughly and I bet it does 10 hours easy, and more. This is not some everything cheapo PCB disaster. Look for yourself. I have seen a lot, a LOT worse, for twice this money.

The 2 channel version is 77 euro. About 90 bucks for 2x800 watt @ 8 ohm. Only drawback was you cant put them in bridge but guys, this Sono is really recommended for mid/high duty or smaller subwoofer duty.

EDIT: so my guesstimate was right on the money as the Sono manufacturer spec sheet puts this DS413 at 4x800watt @8ohm.

I had a nice chat with the Sono guys why they keep the 4x1300watt advertisement up. For one: everybody does it. Bar Nad, Dagostino, some pro brands like L acoustics, none of the others reach the promised output. My Behringer inuke 6000 does not get near 50% of its promised output of 2x3000 watt @8 ohm.

I would give Sono a pass as many of the other offers rarely match even half the promised power. This Sono is well build, reach factory spec no problem for an insane price.

The other point is how do you measure such really. I have ordered some dummy load resistors and plan some more measurements in the next few months. Thanks to all who contributed. I feel this Sono is a real challenge to the Behringer offerings, and the low K series of Sinbosen.

Next to my Skram killer chest punch skam bass diy subwoofers with 21” b&c 21ds115 i have revel f208 as main speakers for mid and high. I decided to try and have fun building my very first mud bass cabinets. Never used a router before and it shows. Never used a 3d printer and it shows. So 30 liter boxes and installed eighteensound 10nw750 mid range. Then i bought 2 eighteensound nd3n compressiondrivers and a guy at diyaudio who sells 3d printer horn designs, the twinray. And while the f208 are sublime, this new setup adds same hifi quality but more oomphh.

Passive driven through minidsp flex eight. Quad 606 for the horns. Sinbosen k4 for mid. Behringer inuke 6000 for the skram subwoofers. And they will be used accordingly!

So I decided to add some more mid/hi oomph and build my first own speaker cabs! Look at how bad I handled the router on this one but since it takes up from 115hz im not too worried being a bit leaky.

It houses an Eighteensound 10NW750 for 115-850hz mid range and has its own amp.

On top is a diy 3d printed horn, design I got from diyaudio. Its a twinray horn mated to an Eighteensound ND3N compression driver, also fed by own amplifier.

All passive, using minidsp flex eight as crossover.

It is LOUDDDDDDD!!! And at least as good as my Revel F208 main speaker. I love those dearly but I think Ill sell them on.

The cab plus horn will be installed and hanged upside down if im contend with everything. I might print a few horns in a different colour but this matches the box nicely. As the Skrams, I like au natural instead of the usual black. Im damn proud of them. And it looks a right soundsytem now, doesnt it?
