Are you ugly?

I don't identify as hikikomori, even though I have social anxiety and I'm still supported by my parents at 29. Many of my problems are duo to my looks.

I was reading about hikikomori in Japan and saw that, even though appearance can be a factor that leads to bullying and isolation, there's often a lot more going on ( family issues, work/school pressure, social expectations, etc.)

I'm curious to know how it is outside Japan (or East Asia). For those who are hikikomori/shut-ins in other countries: is your appearance the main reason you withdrew, or were there other, bigger factors?
