Lag and glitch with mesen. (issue or meant to be?)

So I'm trying to figure out if what I'm noticing are problems with the emulator or if the emulator is doing its job correctly.

Castlevania: In the first screen with the "zombies/ghosts" I occasionally see missing sprites on the enemies, usually at the top.

Legend of Zelda: On a screen with a lot of enemies and a lot of bullets on the screen, the action and music slow down for a couple of seconds.

I have never tried the NES or these games personally for real.

But from what I understand, these are likely behaviors for a console of the time. So I'm asking you, is this normal or do I need to configure the core better? I'm using the default configuration, standalone RA on a modern PC.

Thanks.

Steam version, using StandAlone for core, should use it for other download/update?

I'm using the Steam version to play (because I use Remote Play, Steam Link and Big Picture)
So I installed the StandAlone version to download and update the cores. In the Steam version, I set the "core" and "core info" directories to the same ones as the StandAlone version.

I should do the same with other directories like "shades", "overlay", others,....
Or are they the same in the Steam version?

Thanks.

Metadata and cover from Emby will work on JF?

TBH not really and Help Request but just a question.

I just migrated my entire library from Emby to JF. With Emby, the metadata and covers are saved directly into the folders. Can I have JF automatically read them or do I have to do it manually one at a time?

Thanks.

Metadata are .nfo file
Cover are jpg file
Both with the same name as the movie file.
Cover have "poster/landscape/clearlogo" at the end of the file name.

Move library from Emby to JF

Hi, I'm coming from Emby. I've set up a new NAS, and after doing some basic setup and testing, I'm ready to move my entire library.

Just for reference, I'm using a DS425+. The files are on mechanical HDDs, while I've already created and configured the cache and config folders on the SSD. The encoding is working.
I use it mainly on my TV via the app from the LG Store, and on my PC just for testing.

Now the questions:

- With emby, I automatically saved the metadata files and covers in folders. Can I have JF read them, or do I have to redo them all?

-I'm using the following libraries: movies, tv shows, photos, and music. I can view them all correctly, with their folders inside, where I separate everything except for "movies". I noticed that to see the folders, I need to enable folder view. Is there an alternative?

- When I scroll through my library on JF, it takes a while for the covers to load, which isn't a problem. But I noticed that if I scroll through the list and then go back, it reloads them again. Is this normal?

-Is it possible to have different sub colors on TV? On PC, I saw that I can create any color I want. On TV, there are only a few colors, and they're particularly bright.

-Is it possible to have a "dedicated row for a specific type of library"?
Let me explain: in settings/home I can configure the various "Home screen section #" in addition to the various "continue watching, listening, etc." I can have a row dedicated to all libraries such as "Movies," one for "TV shows," "Music," etc.
This allows me to navigate my home screen vertically and not necessarily horizontally.

Thanks.

QoL mod? Coming back after long time.

Hello there.

I already played and finished the game years ago, and I'm about to start it again with a group of friends who have never played it.

So I was wondering if there were any tested and recommended mods for QoL. If I remember correctly, it wasn't easy to build aligned elements.

Thanks.

Coop games "Mandela effect"

I'm still shocked from just realizing that games I thought were co-op are actually single player.

I had just recovered LotR: Two Towers from the garage to play it with a friend, after the first two levels I said to myself "now the co-op with Moira starts and the first two are just introductory" but no.

I was really disappointed. I found out that LotR: Return of the King has co-op, but I've never owned it and I was convinced I'd played The Two Towers in co-op back then. Actually, even Demon Stone.

Am I the only one or did this happen to you too?

Game "Love" removed from Epic store?

The game "Love" was given away in January 2024, it is still available in the library, but when I clicked to see what game it was, its store page was removed.
I didn't use any kind of VPN to redeem it at the time so I wasn't in any blacklisted countries.

Does anyone know what happened or is this just a mistake?
As a reference, the giveaway post and the game's Steam page.

I DON'T WANT TO USE TWO DEVICES AT THE SAME TIME

Having clarified this right away, what I wanted to know was:
I was planning to connect a smart TV and gaming console to it to free up a port on the router.
My reasoning was "I don't watch streams while I play and I don't play while I watch streams."
So my choice seems like the right one, but I have a doubt: what happens if these devices transmit data in the background?

Does the connection keep dropping or is there just a loss of quality?

Thanks.

How to verify the authenticity of an SN700?

After having bad experiences with discs in the past, I've gotten into the habit of checking the S/N before even opening the package.

Now I have a WD Red SN700 and it doesn't show up when I check
here: https://support-eu.wd.com/app/warrantystatusweb
and here: https://support-eu.wd.com/app/Warranty_Status

Do M.2 SSD need to be checked elsewhere?
Looking at the memory, the sticker covers all the "chips" (probably the wrong term), so I can't read what's written on it, and I can't find any photos online for comparison. Mine is the 500GB model.

Of course, I can always contact support, but first I wanted to make sure I'd done everything I could on my own.

Thanks.

150 to 9 mbps, fixed by reconnecting the cable

So, I have desktop PC connected it with an old 5e cable I had at home and it worked perfectly.
Today I bought a new 5e because the one I had at home was too long and I immediately had no connection, a couple of minutes later it arrives and it's slow.
9 mbps instead of 150. I started trying to understand the causes of the problem and after unplugging and replugging the cable the problem was solved.

I'm sure I heard the plug click when I inserted it from both ends, but even if I inserted it incorrectly, is it possible that a poorly inserted cable would still work but only at a reduced speed? What else could have happened?

Thanks.

UPS for DS425+

Hi, I was evaluating a UPS for my NAS and first I was trying to figure out how to calculate how much power it consumes.
I don't have 4 drives at the moment, so I have to estimate, also considering larger drives in the future.

Is 60W a reasonable estimate at full load?

My goal is only to protect it from power surges, historically I have never had sudden blackouts (obviously the exception can happen) only a few power fluctuations.
So battery life isn't a problem, it's only used when I'm at home, the rest of the time it'll be in hibernation.

What UPS capacity do you recommend?
Thanks.

The RAM is preventing the NAS from turning on.

continuation of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/1u4s8g7/ds224_it_doesnt_turn_on_anymore/

Summary: One day I found the NAS turned off and would not turn on anymore, the culprit seemed to be the power supply but before contacting support (it is only 6 months old) I followed u/shrimpdiddle advice and tried removing the RAM and it started up.

I activated the NAS in December and I haven't changed anything since then.
DS224+
2 disks: 1 as media station and 1 as cold storage
4GB Kingston KCP424SS6/4 CKMK0432098
DSM 7.3.2

Visually, I can't see any defects in the RAM. I have no idea exactly when it died; my wife used it last Thursday night, and I noticed it Saturday morning.
The RAM has always been recognized without error messages.

What could have happened?

Thanks.

DS224+ it doesn't turn on anymore

Today I realized that the NAS is disconnected from my network. I went to physically check it and found it turned off, but the power supply was powered (the green light was on).

I press the power button, no noise, no light, no sign of life.

I open it and find no obvious damage or burning smell.

Before contacting support (since it's only 6 months old), what do you recommend I do? Any other things to check or simple tests to do?

As soon as I can set something up I'll try to check the discs too.

Current situation regarding DSM/docker/containers/etc.. on an M.2 drive

Since I'm about to get a 425+ I wanted to understand the situation better regarding this.

From what I understand, DSM is always installed on all drives, but to install it on an M.2 perhaps it is possible, perhaps it can be done in some unofficial way.
However, for programs, containers and so on, you can choose where to install them and they are not copied to all disks.

What I said was correct?

What I would like to do (if possible) is have everything on the m.2 drive for convenience and also safety in the unlikely event of all installed drives failing.

Thanks.

About DS425+

Hello there.

I currently use a DS224+ primarily as a home-only media server and wanted to upgrade to a 4-bay model.
In my searches I always got 920+ and 423+ and never the 425+

So my question is an algorithm issue that for some reason preferred to show me discussions and results regarding the other models or is the 425+ not recommended for some reason?

Thanks.

Stuck installing jellyfin on NAS

Hello there.

I've been using Emby on my NAS for a few years and wanted to try Jellyfin.
I followed this guide: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/installation/advanced/synology/

When I got to "Port Settings" I entered 8097 twice because 8096 is used by Emby

Once the process is finished, when I start the container I get the warning that it has stopped, from what I was able to understand from the log is that it is trying to use port 8096 without success.

Where did I go wrong? I can't find how to change the port, should I repeat the process from the beginning?

Thanks.

Fixed by changing to "bridge" instead of "host". Thank you all.

Suggestions for DLC to buy on sale?

Taking advantage of the sales, I was thinking of buying DLC, especially for the games that were given away. Any suggestions?

Some suggestions that come to mind

Dead Island 2 season pass
Frostpunk season pass
Orcs must die 3 (2 story dlc)
KeyWee (1 story dlc)

Do you have any others to add?

Follow up of a suspect disk

is the continuation of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/WesternDigital/comments/1skg6pt/did_i_get_scammed/

I contacted WD support and they confirmed that it is an Ultrastar HC520 with a warranty that expired in 2023.

Now since I probably have to keep it (I don't want to try to sell it for what it isn't) I would like to understand exactly what I have in my hand and what state it is in.

If I'm "lucky" it's simply a refurbished disk to which they applied a fake label.
If I'm not, how can I figure it out? Honestly, I understand little about the images I posted. The hour count (about a thousand) reflects the time I've used it. The SMART tests gave no errors.

What I find strange is in the second to last image it indicates 12TB free and 0TB used. At the moment, Windows shows me 8TB free.

Does everything else seem in order to you and above all is it good for a home NAS?

Thanks.
