I finally got the Series X

I finally got the Series X

As someone who had no life during the 360 era, grew out of gaming and had an Xbox One during end of high school and undergrad and eventually received a Series S/PS5 during covid era, I finally decided to get a Series X for longevity and to complement my PC/handhelds. I had a PS5 that I gave to a sibling. I was never big on PS exclusives and I just miss Xbox. I wanted to upgrade my covid era Series S… so, I have the Series X now!

I hope it gives me many years because I’m not paying $1200+ for Helix for the next few years 🤣

Saw a drone with a parachute attached to it around dusk. What the heck was this about?

I am currently staying in a relatively small town of about 15k people. I noticed a drone that flew overhead and was nearby for maybe 15 minutes hovering (I could hear it). I was really confused as to why there was a drone with a parachute? This was at near 9PM and it was hovering probably 100-200 feet… very low and noisy. It did the same thing about two nights ago. Any idea?

What are some use cases that make these worth it?

I’m on the fence about buying these. I have APP2 and APP3. I use it primarily for the gym and sometimes other times. However, due to issues I have with earwax and ear clogging, I have started using meta ray bans when I’m just around the house for music and have been debating on even using AirPods (non pro) 4 more for that reason.

I have Beats Studio that I used when I went into the office to noise cancellation. It worked pretty well for me actually. I can see that or just using it with my MacBook Air M5 or my PC, although, I usually just use my speakers while on PC without a need for headphones… BUT I am starting a grad school program soon so maybe it’ll be worthwhile to invest in more noise cancellation headphones since my Beats headphones are over 5 years old and very worn at this point.

Thoughts? From an outside perspective, do you think they’re worth it for me? What use cases would make them worth it?

Should I pull the trigger and jump from M1 to M5?

I’m starting grad school soon and have an M1 that still mostly runs fine. Is the 13 inch air. However, I really want the 15 inch with my next laptop. I was thinking of just jumping all the way to M5… but I see there’s a pretty good deal with the M3. What do you think?

Should I opt for a brand new set ($560 from Walmart) or lightly used ($350-$450) range?

I see many quality used ones being sold in the $350 to $450 range and many include the BOBOVR stuff with it, especially closer to the $450 area. What would you recommend I do?

Would you say the Fitbit Air is worth getting?

Personally, I have an Apple Watch Ultra 3. I’m not necessarily looking to replace it. I’m more so looking to supplement it. However, I see more posts than I would like about how it doesn’t work, the metrics are terrible, etc. I am just curious whether or not you think the device is worth it for most people to buy?

Is it worth getting a Series X at this point (context in description)?

I had no life during the 360 era (from playing it so much). I also had an Xbox One for years during my college years. I didn’t jump ship at that point.

When the new consoles came out, I ended up getting a Series S and a PS5. I didn’t really ever like the feel of the PS controller, although I respect the tech behind it. I also was never big on their exclusives. I became more of a PC gamer as I got older, enjoy the PC integration Xbox has and I am looking for a console to relax and not be at a desk… plus Xbox has game pass…

Anyways, after that context, I gave my PS5 to a sibling because it largely collected dust for over 3 years and they had a PS4 that broke. Now, I’m sitting with my Series S wondering what to do.

Do I wait for the next gen Xbox to come out and chill with the Series S? Do I upgrade now to the Series X? Or just be content with Series S? What do we think? Any advice is appreciated.

Funnel clouds possible advisory

Is this common? I have never seen this before. I always thought most of the tornado risk would be in the SPC Outlook risk areas.

How can I get better at coding?

This might be a dumb question but I’ve taken the foundational courses in CS. However, I feel like I’m clueless if people ask me to code stuff from scratch without searching things up. I can see code and tell you what it does (often)… but me generating code myself is not something I’m currently good at. How can I bridge this gap better?

What do you think it’ll take to make this app grow?

I am interested in this app being more than politics and a few niche topics. It seems to really be struggling after its initial boom around Oct-Nov 2024. It’s just stagnant with a relatively low user base. Obviously, it doesn’t have to be as big as Facebook or something… but some growth so that other interests can be enjoyed by others is important too, I believe.

What do you think is lacking or could help provide a nudge to help this app grow?

How do you folks from the Plains states and Midwest stay calm with strong tornado threats constantly?

I am in the enhanced zone for the Midwest on Wednesday. I’m actually terrified. I’m from the northeast. I know we get tornadoes occasionally but they’re usually on the weaker end. I think the likelihood for a tornado outbreak or a strong tornado is significant for Wednesday. I’m actually to the point that I’m debating on driving most of the day Tuesday southward just to get out and get an Airbnb for the day… then I’d return on Thursday, avoiding the zones on Thursday. I could use some advice if possible… Thank you

Is there any word on when this will integrate with Apple Health?

Hey all, I a daily wearer of the Apple Watch but I’m really interested in Fitbit Air for more casual and sleep usage. I saw there was a blog post someone posted but is there any timeline on when Apple Health will be integrated? I don’t want to split ecosystems and it’s the one thing preventing me from buying it currently. Any info?

As of 2026, to any current physician lurkers, how difficult is it for DOs to match into the same things as MDs?

I know DOs tend to match into primary care and "less competitive" specialties. However, I wonder if some of that is because the people going into it to begin with favor primary care? Also, do you see boundaries to more competitive ones being eroded (derm, plastics, and ortho for example), or are there still a lot of barriers and lingering elitism in the match process after the merge took place?

I fell back into X and it just made me miserable. I ended up deleting my account after a few weeks.

I really enjoy a select few accounts that post stats, financial stuff and sports stuff on X. However, so much of the app is just a cesspool of people spreading disinformation and blatant lies, especially “intellectuals” working for right wing think tanks. “Look at this graph. This is why *insert right wing talking point*”. Every post is just absolutely tainted by bots or right wing nutjobs just regurgitating memes and tweets they saw online. I honestly just can’t stand it at all. Despite me wanting to enjoy those few accounts, I found myself just getting angry constantly as soon as I get on the app. I had been using BlueSky less but I just really wish more sports, urban planning enthusiasts, financial, and data people would join. Those are really what I check these apps on my phone for. Oh well. I’ll keep supporting it… anyways, fuck X. The rotting, far right cesspool that it is. I hope SpaceX absolutely tanks.

I had a Twitter account around 2009 and loved the app for years. I deleted it initially in 2024 before this second round. It’s a shame to see what has happened to it. I’m off it permanently now.

I guess this is more of a vent and wanting support in a way.

Did Reddit get rid of the left to right swipe to go back for posts?

I notice when I go into a subreddit, I can still do this left to right swipe and it’ll return me back. However, it seems going into an actual post, I have to click X at the top left of the screen. I find this to be kind of annoying but I want to confirm this was something that changed? Or was this always like this and I just noticed this?

Does anyone know if there are plans for Apple to release a faceless Apple Fitness Band?

I ask because I saw Google just released the Fitbit Air. I am very much interested in something similar. However, I would prefer not to split ecosystems. Are there any plans for Apple to release something similar? I would prefer a fitness wrist band particularly when I’m sleeping and occasionally otherwise.

Anyone know?
