Definitive shopping cart of supplies for beginner?

Hi all,

I made a post about removing the Bill and Ted logo on my newly acquired Adidas Torsions, and y'all confirmed what I needed to do. However, since these are expensive, nice sneakers that I plan to wear daily, I want to ensure I do it right. but I wasn't able to really find a conclusive list of what I needed as a total beginner. I have my cart, but I'm not sure if it's complete. Here's what I have so far:

  • Angelus paint set
  • Angelus finishers (all 4 so I can see what matches my shoes)
  • Angelus deglazer
  • Angelus thinner
  • Angelus paintbrushes
  • Painter's tape
  • Paint palette for previewing and paint mixing
  • Sandpaper of various grits
  • X-acto knife
  • 100% acetone nail polish remover + rubber gloves
  • As well, I want to get a custom decal, but not sure how to color match that, what type to get (heat transfer, waterslide, etc) or when to put it on in the process

I was thinking about cotton balls, but since I'm only working on a small area of my sneakers I'm thinking Q-Tips are good enough and probably better suited anyways. Anything else I need? Thank you for any help!

Removing decals from these Adidas Torsions?

Hi all,

I bought these Adidas Torsion Artillery Highs and they arrive tomorrow. I love everything about these sneakers except this Bill and Ted logo on the back. I want to get rid of it and maybe get some custom water or heat transfer decals to take its place. I did some research and acetone kept coming up, but I really don't want to strip the finish. Any other ideas?

Thank you for any help!

STEM OPT timing

Hi all,

My current post-completion OPT expires in February next year. I still haven't found a job yet, looking still. I was wondering if I get an offer in or after November or so (90 days before February), would I still be okay if my OPT EAD expires and my STEM EAD is in processing?

Thanks!

Replaced the vintage sticker on my bass with another vintage one!

I couldn’t bear to leave my third favorite senshi off my bass, and it turns out this other vintage sticker from the same set fits on my bass! I moved the old sticker to my record shelf and put this one on instead!

Getting an arts grant as a non-citizen?

Hi all,

I'm an F-1 student on OPT. For fun, I'm in a band, and we're starting to get some traction in our city. The rest of my bandmates are all American and wish to apply for some local and state arts grants to support our band. I'm erring on the side of caution and telling them not include my name in any applications, but they are saying they'll just not mention I'm a non-citizen. That doesn't seem wise to me, especially since my major doesn't relate to the arts at all. What do y'all think?

Thank you for any help!

Rewatching the 2006 run for the first time in years, still feel horrible for Satoko

I first watched Higurashi in like 2019. I decided to rewatch it recently. I didn't remember much from my first watch, except the fact that I felt really bad for Satoko. I haven't finished my rewatch yet, I'm on ep 12, but I still feel horribly for Satoko. Whenever Satoko cries, I just feel so badly for her, it makes me want to cry too. Probably because I work with children in a homeless shelter, I just don't ever want to see any child suffer.

Places for a Russian manicure in Portland?

Hi all,

I would like to get my nails done professionally, it's been a while since I did that. I love the look of Russian manicures, but most places seem to be booked up pretty far into the future. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Queer friendly makeup artists?

Hi all,

I'm an AMAB person, and I have a wedding to attend next month. I (and almost everyone involved) is queer, so I would like to surprise everyone with a new look! I'm getting my hair done the day of the wedding, my nails the day before, and was wondering if there were any queer friendly makeup artists who can help me the day of the wedding.

Thanks all!

Best way to get into ballet as an appreciator?

Hey all,

I'm no dancer at all, but being Indian, I grew up with dancing being a huge part of my culture and household. I'm a bass player in an alt rock band and an aspiring poet, so all forms of dance to me are essentially poetry, music and visual art all jumbled together and translated to movement, which so sick, cool and human to me.

Ballet especially has always stood out to me. I first got interested in it through three channels: the 1948 Powell-Pressburger film The Red Shoes (which I know is a bit controversial in the ballet community), the Aronofsky film Black Swan, and the fact that one of the members of my favorite K-Pop group, Le Sserafim, was a former ballerina (Kazuha Nakamura). This year, I want to get into ballet for real and watch a performance at my local theater.

However, I want to be prepared before I go to the theater. I really want to understand what to look for, the context, the history, beyond just thinking it looks cool. Of course, like all art, I'm sure ballet is open to interpretation, but I still want a general gist so that I can combine that with my own interpretations. I've been doing some research online, and I've been watching some recorded performances, but I want to know more. What are y'all's recommendations for resources?

Thank you all!

Best workshops for poetry in PDX or online?

Hi all,

I've always been into reading poetry, and want to try writing it as well. I've tried teaching myself and writing a few things on my own, to varying degrees of success, but I really work best under the guidance of someone else. Are there any recommendations for free or affordable poetry workshops in my hometown of PDX or online?

Thank you!

Help with getting my hair back to my original wavy, shiny state?

Hey all,

So three years ago, I had really thick, shiny, wavy hair. However, I lost it due to medication side effects (azathioprine, to be specific.) I shaved it, stopped the medication and let it regrow. My hair has never been the same, it grew back dry and frizzy. I’ve attached pictures of before and after, two before and one after. It’s causing me a lot of strife. I currently use lavender oil, and custom Prose hair mask, shampoo and conditioner twice a week.

Thanks for any help!

Is what I bought a real Gibson mudbucker?

Hi all,

So a while ago I bought what purported to be a vintage 60s Gibson mudbucker on Reverb some time ago, like late 2025 or so. It sounds good, but I was wondering if it was real or not lately. The main thing that got me thinking about this was the fact that it doesn't fit snugly in my previous mudbucker cover. I had a Stonewall mudbucker initially before buying this, and I noticed that the provided cover is way smaller than the Stonewall one, despite the Stonewall one being a direct retrofit onto real Gibson basses. It's not really a huge deal, but was wondering if instead I got like a Japanese lawsuit-era copy of a mudbucker. As well, comparing to other mudbuckers the construction seems a bit shoddier.

Here is the listing:

Bass almost complete: now with aluminum neck!

Was waiting for Hipshot to ship the drop tuner I ordered but they’re taking forever, so decided to put it on anyways!
