I just published my second novel

Even just typing that out feels surreal. I’m 19 years old. I’ve been working on writing my middle-grade fantasy series called *Elements* since I was 14, only a freshman in high school. Now I’m an English major in college with two self-published works out.

It’s bittersweet. The second book concludes the series, so I have to say goodbye to the characters I created nearly 6 years ago. A part of me can’t believe that I actually stuck with it and finished the project, and the other part of me has always known that this is what I was meant to do.

Don’t count yourself out as a writer just because you’re young. Teenagers can do incredible things. I love looking at this sub and seeing all of the amazing writing talent being showcased by the youth of today while AI threatens to steal our creativity.

So, keep writing!! I know I sure will. And if you have any questions about writing a story, formatting a novel, or publishing, feel free to ask :)

I was packing for college and found these at the bottom of a drawer

Brought back a whole bunch of memories. They all had distinct characteristics and storylines.

I had all of the play sets and thought I threw everything away, but I guess I kept my favorite figures 🥹

Crumbl review

Cinnamon Bun: 9/10
This was absolutely DELICIOUS but I’m a sucker for anything cinnamon so that’s to be expected. Perfect ratio of icing to cake. So yummy!

Mud Pie: 8/10
I’m disappointed it’s not the same as French Silk Pie (the whipped cream is lighter and not as sweet) but this was really good

Peanut butter bar: 4/10
This could have been so good but the cookie was so dry and completely overpowering. I liked the icing a lot.

M&M shake: 0/10
I don’t know if it was just my location but everything about this was disgusting. The icing was grainy and sickingly sweet. The cookie was dry and crumbly and I’m pretty sure even the m&m’s were expired or something because it was a horrible experience. My friend and I both had to spit this out. Sad because I was really looking forward to this

This might be a hot take, but…

Whenever I use the wishing well I ALWAYS use two WCs and choose the color pallet I want. I may never get an epic or legendary mythic, but at least I never end up with crazy color combinations.

This often results in me getting a bunch of semi-solids or pretty combos— my recent Kitsune pulls for example:

Does anyone else do this?

Why do a lot of people seem to despise this series?

Obviously I’m not talking about you wonderful people on this sub 😅

It seems like a lot of readers on Booktok have a specific distaste for Fourth Wing, the main complaints being that “the writing is bad,” and “the characters are unrealistic and unlikeable.”

I’ve had friends who, when I mention that Fourth Wing is one of my favorite series, ask what I could possibly be learning from my “dragon smut books.”

It’s not that I don’t appreciate “classic literature.” I’m currently an English Major in college. I study Greek dramas and Shakespeare and write essays on pieces like Dante’s Divine Comedy.

And in my free time I like to read about dragons and really hot dragon riders 🤷‍♀️ 😭

Why do people think that every book needs to be some sort of revolutionary commentary on society? This goes for all of the popular booktok books that everyone seems to hate. Sometimes it’s just fun to relax with a story about extensive fantasy worlds with all-powerful dragons that only speak to their riders. And Xaden Riorson ofc. (Like HELLO— Shakespeare could NEVER)

Anyway I’m currently rereading Fourth Wing and totally forgot how good it is, love seeing all of the foreshadowing that I missed on my first read. Thanks for listening to my rant 🫡 🐉

My favorite scene from my second novel, a middle grade fantasy, releasing next month

Would love some feedback on this scene! My first novel came out two years ago, and I’m finally finished with the sequel, just working on some final editing stuff. I’m 19 and am so excited to finish this journey that’s been 5 years in the making!

Looking for more ideas for a Broadway themed workout playlist!

I love to listen to music while I run and I’ve been incorporating songs from my favorite musicals. I’m looking to add some more and branch out a bit! What are some of your favorite “hype / upbeat” songs from musicals?

Here are some of the ones I listen to a lot:

Hamilton:
- My Shot
- Non-stop
- Wait For It
- The Room Where it Happens

Mamma Mia:
- Voulez-Vous
- Money, Money, Money

Wicked:
- Defying Gravity
- No Good Deed

Hadestown:
- Wait For Me
-Wait For Me (Reprise)

Just had the best night of my life

I don’t really care that more stick season was played than TGD; I heard all of my favorites and screamed along to everything. Wow!!

So impressed by Noah’s choices to opt up on certain songs and absolutely LOVED the extension to Orbiter, that was incredible.

Loved the set designs, the band, the overall vibes and had an amazing time in the nosebleeds! 🤩

[PubQ] my editor has ghosted me, and I don’t know what to do.

I hired my developmental editor through Reedsy for my first novel almost two years ago, and everything went perfectly. I received my edited manuscript right on the deadline, and we even had a zoom call to discuss what could be fixed. It only made since for me to hire her again after I finished my final draft of the sequel this past winter.

Everything started normally; I sent her my manuscript, waited about two months, and when the deadline date approached, she sent me a message saying she was running about 10 days behind. I said that was fine.

Twelve days passed with no other message, so I reached out and asked if there were any updates. She said, “it will be with you tomorrow night! Thank you so much for your patience!”

This was last Friday. It is now Wednesday and I have heard absolutely nothing from her despite reaching out multiple times. Most recently, I asked her to please just message me and let me know what is going on. Nothing.

At this point I have to assume that something is wrong. Like I said, I’ve worked with her before with no problems. I’m on the verge of panicking because I’ve already paid in full, and currently I have nothing to show for it. I suppose the next step is to get in contact with Reedsy directly, but reports can take up to 21 days and I was counting on this summer to make edits to my novel. I’m frustrated and worried, and would really appreciate any advice on what I should do.
