I discovered this new baby chipmunk (kit/pup) in my backyard on 10/5/2026. Names were suggested by viewers. Please click the link below to vote on Strawpoll, unfortunately there was no way to create the poll on reddit.

Did you know that a baby chipmunk is actually biologically called a kitten (or a kit/pup)?
I don't have a name for them yet and don't know if they are male or female.
All naming suggestions welcome. I will create a poll later once I have the finalists.
Note: this is a wild chipmunk not a pet. She came in and left via the sliding glass door.

I was sitting at my dining room table with the sliding glass door cracked open, watching a squirrel enjoy some snacks at the tiny picnic table outside. Out of nowhere, Mellie decided she wanted a VIP dining experience. She snuck right past the squirrel, walked entirely inside my house, and came right up to me!
Watch her bravely take a hazelnut right out of my hand, run out, and immediately come back for an almond in the shell all while completely outsmarting the neighborhood squirrel guard on her way out.
Captured this intense face-off in the yard today. Mellie the chipmunk just wanted a quick sip of water, but Fred the mourning dove had already claimed the glass as personal property.

This poor, lovable fluff ball spent a solid minute putting on his best Pepe Le Pew routine, slowly creeping up to show his affection. Meanwhile, his crush was absolutely NOT having it. She was just calmly side-stepping and leaping away.
I had to write and generate a custom mid-century cartoon jazz track to match the vibe. Wait until the very end... the chase completely wears him out! 🐿️💦
A few months ago, I made a post because I was excited to see my first hummingbird after putting up a feeder (https://www.reddit.com/r/hummingbirds/comments/1ttz0l7/tiny_hummingbird_makes_the_sweetest_squeaks_while/). Unfortunately, within a week, our entire community received a notice from the HOA stating that bird feeders, bird baths, and various other wildlife items were not permitted. I didn't want to argue with them about the fact that other birds don't drink nectar, so I took the feeders down and gave them to my friends.
Over the last few months, I have seen a hummingbird in my backyard looking for food at least once a week. (Note: the feeder was originally in my front yard.) I think it was attracted to the red flowers, as it kept examining my red hibiscus and red lilies before flying away without a meal.
Then a thought occurred to me: next year, maybe I could just plant flowers they can actually drink from? Any recommendations would be appreciated!
