my miniature x-files office!
i love the x files sooo much, so i had to make the office as a miniature! i tried to fill it with as many details and easter eggs as i could (also make it as accurate as i could, which was hard since it’s in 1:15,6 scale—don’t ask about that ,6). but i’m super proud of it, it might be my favorite one i’ve ever made🖤🛸
it’s mostly wood, paper, and foam, with some hand sculpted pieces—and the desk is detachable

1/72 XAJ-1 Savage Prototype
Calling this complete - 1/72 XAJ-1 Savage Prototype
This was a down conversion from the Mach2 AJ-2 kit and all that entailed. The down conversion required:
> Cutting down the vertical stab/rudder,
> Adding dihedral to the horizontal stabs and notching for the rudder,
> Cutting the chord down on the props and extending them by 3/8”,
> Relocating the main entrance hatch,
> Relocating one set of exhausts to the outboard side of the nacelle,
> Scratch building the entire cockpit because replacing the heavily framed canopy for a frameless opening ‘bubble’ canopy would open the cockpit to wider viewing,
> Removing later model antennas and radioes,
> Vacuforming a new frameless bubble canopy,
As expected, the Mach2 kit put up resistance but almost all of it was fixable. By far the nacelles and cowling had the worst fit and required a lot of work. The one thing not fixable is the mismatch between wing roots on the fuselage halves, with one lower than the other giving the a/c the ‘leans’ to starboard. I partially offset that by mounting the stbd strut (main struts sourced from SAC’s 1/72 Su-27 mag with wheels/tires from Brassin’s 1/72 P-47) slightly longer than the port. Additionally there is a bit of droop in the outer wing panels not apparent until well along in assembly.
The canopy was vacuformed using an epoxy buck shaped from the framed kit canopy, and placed on a scratch built base. AlClad metallics were used for the NMF and a mixture of spare, kit and aftermarket (CtA’s AJ Savages) decals used over a gloss clear coat. A finishing coat of AlClad clear semi-luster was applied and the canopy set in place with UV ca glue.
I’ve always liked the Savage and especially liked the clean appearance of the bubble canopy prototype. *If* I build another Savage though, I’m using Roden’s kit…
(McDonnell’s FH-1 and North American’s FJ-1 provided for contemporary size comparisons).
Do normal humans actually do these metal model kits?
So my kid got one of those "metal earth" model car kits as a present. I have spent the last several hours trying to fold tiny pieces of aluminum into the correct shapes/positions and then align+fold the tiny little tabs so that everything fits together, all without stressing the folded edges too much so that they break apart.
My fingers have been stabbed innumerable times by pokey aluminum bits. Things are not going together well.
I've done plenty of the plastic style models that you glue together in the past. Plenty of small fiddly bits, and superglue adhering things to my fingers etc, but this metal stuff is next-level frustration!
Anyone have hints on how to put these together - or even just a hit that "yeah, these are meant for elves, not humans" - because my poor sausage-fingers have had enough!

Sculpted and hand painted this fantasy township, every roof tiled one at a time
Part of a fantasy township we have been building, 3D printed then hand painted. Sculpted by Johnny Fraser-Allen (ex Weta Workshop). Figures are 28mm for scale. The whole tall quarter climbs floor over crooked floor, so we tiled every roof one piece at a time.
It was a great birthday for this dragon lover!
I am very happy. My hoard of dragon related items is always growing.
First attempt at 1/144
Not at all happy with it but you can see where I'm going with it. There's another x wing to add and im still painting the trench run.
Received a model kit of Old Trafford!
Mods, if this is the wrong place for this kind of post, apologies. Was super chuffed with the kit and thought this sub would appreciate it! Super tedious, but building it was loads of fun
Finished the House Atreides ornithopter. So I thought I put both into a nice display case.
I looked at the screenshots of the House Atreides ornithopter and it was fairly clean. So I gave it a simple paint job.
WIP : Midnight edition- Joohour Navy Plane
I’m loving this piece. From the cherry finish on the base to the overlapping layers of large form stickers you use to build the skin over the frame of the plane. This piece by Joohour is a joy to build.
So far my only major mod beyond doing some painting for gaps and such is the propeller. It ships as the flat piece with a square hole that is stationary and I decided to make that hole round and shape the arms into a proper propeller. So now it spins and looks realer. Put 2 coats of sealer on that for a smooth finish and adds a little more material strength.
Happy Building All!
Deployment woes
I have apps that are imbedded in Sharepoint that just don't like to deploy. I make a change and publish it and it may not be there for days. Does anyone have any tricks for forcing the new version?
The chance of my users using a ctl-f5 or checking the version are slim. I was thinking I could delete the app and add it back in sharepoint and then publish the sharepoint page again but that seems like a pain.
First Bandai kit
Just finished painting the model. Didn't have too much time for the base so its kinda thrown together. The various boxes were 3D printed. For the washes I use diluted oil paints.

One of the largest of the space race models I’ve ever done, while shorter than the many of the other rocket models, it is a mass of girders and layers. This sucker is heavy. It also has so many little thin and long folds that you better have a really good set of pliers.
Well next up is the Falcon as it just arrived in the mail today.
Rolife Steam Journey
The choo choo is done. I think anyways. This one took longer than I anticipated. The edge coloring man, killed me. Once you start how do you stop? But it was fun. More of a challenge than expected.
The scene depicts an old time steam or coal train at a stop. No passengers or engineer to see but it evokes such a nice nostalgia for this mode of transportation. Were people used to dress up to travel. Wheee it was considered an adventure in itself.
The panels are fairly all over the place. If you saw my unboxing video you saw the difference in panel thickness on some parts. But it makes sense in the end. Gotta trust the process! While some parts were difficult to insert. Others were fairly easy. The instructions weren’t bad. There was some confusion on the layout and placement of some components to the build. But it wasn’t bad. It came together rather easily.
Modifications
I did a lot of edge painting as I just didn’t feel right with the color variations from black to wood or red to wood. So I made the decision to just follow the color scheme of the parts
I also used some license in using a metallic marker. Particularly gold and silver. As the highlights of the train were already gold, I decided to accent some more on handles, steps etc. the silver was used as the same and I made a patina of some of the mechanical parts on the train that I knew would be normally not so shiny. The chairs on the passenger cabin which you can’t see really, I also highlighted with gold trim.
I added red to the lights and some white to the gauges in the main engine compartment. Which of course you can’t see lol but as we all know the satisfaction comes from the builder knowing it’s there right ??
Ok. Then I finally got my 3d printer kinda working and added a passenger in the back Painted with a acrylic paint and glued that bad boy down. I can’t do faces so now looking at him… dude is kinda creepy standing all alone there… Michael myers vibes, ..
As for the platform itself I only added some flowers on the floor. But I think it could use a hanging basket or a planter. Both of which I dont have the materials or knowledge to make on my own. Oh wait.. I have a 3d printer now… ugh. Use your tools David… oh well maybe later.
This will be gifted to our grandson who currently has a fascination with trains. Being special needs he can just sit there and watch the train go by his house and feel total contentment. It’s pretty cool and I hope he likes it.
Oh! I also added some smoke/steam coming out of the smoke stack. Being empty just wasn’t going to cut it for me. I took some cotton and air brushed a nice dark grey color to it.
Ok I’ve rambled enough. Thanks for reading my nonsense and I hope your weekend was fantastic!!
Interesting subject for a model kit

bbc.comHelp me ( Dream Gift Factory )
Ive been building the factory these past two days and when I got to this step the book told me to test the electronics out. So when I tested the motor assembly, the gears started moving, then they stopped. I was really confused so I examined it, then I turned it manually. There was a loud tick, then it moved for awhile then stopped again. I don't know whats wrong with this, I've tried troubleshooting it and tearing it down then building it again. Can anybody please tell me what to do in this situation? I'm kinda lost here.
