San Francisco Approves Controversial Laser-Based Capital Punishment Program
Officials claim the program is “100% emissions free” and say the public nature of the executions will serve as a powerful deterrent. Critics argue vaporizing inmates from a skyscraper may raise minor ethical concerns.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi was a Japanese marine engineer officially recognized as the only person to survive both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings
Tsutomu Yamaguchi was 29 when he was blown to the ground by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Three days later, after making the agonising journey home to Nagasaki, and with bandages still clinging to his badly burned skin, Tsutomu felt the shattering boom of another atomic bomb.
Tsutomu became the only officially recognised double-survivor of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.
He later became a vocal supporter of nuclear disarmament, and pleaded for the abolition of nuclear weapons at the UN, aged 90.
11 years later, the world’s first legally-binding treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons opened for signature.
