Merch is here!

I’ve never been the type who buys merch but this movie made me into one. Will I be alone wearing this on opening weekend?

PS: Not gonna lie though, the print quality is lacking. You can tell it will peel off after a couple of wash.

What is the best seat at AMC Empire XL for an immersive viewing?

I like rows E-H at LSQ IMAX, and rows D-E at Empire Dolby. Guessing equivalent for Empire XL would be row +/-E?

Shoutout to FLC for an awesome 70mm Fourth of July

In honor of the 250th, I spent the 4th of July enjoying American cinema on 70mm at Film at Lincoln Center.

Caught Batman by Tim Burton, Malcolm X by Spike Lee and The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson. Three wildly different movies, three beloved American directors, and somehow a perfect holiday triple feature.

Big shoutout to FLC for this programming. Between the film prints, the 70mm experience (audio was banging at Walter Reade!), and the lineup, it truly made this cinephile’s heart full yesterday.

Looking for 1 ticket to Malcolm X 70mm FLC 7/4 3:30pm

UPDATE: GOT MY TICKETS. Two other people looking in the comments

Didn’t make any 4th of July weekend plans nor do I want to join the crowded festivities amidst this heat wave. So, I thought of celebrating the holiday instead with a marathon of great American movies made by our beloved American directors: Batman by Tim Burton, Malcom X by Spike Lee, and The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson.

The only problem is I don’t have a ticket to the second movie. Help me out? Comment below and I’ll DM.

What’s your go-to NYC theater for non-IMAX 70mm?

I’m trying to get a better sense of the NYC-area 70mm landscape beyond IMAX 70mm.

I already have a Lincoln Square IMAX ticket for The Odyssey, but I’m also interested in seeing it again in regular 70mm. More broadly though, I want to know where people here prefer to go for non-IMAX 70mm screenings in general, so I have a better mental ranking for future releases and repertory screenings.

The theaters I’m looking at:

AMC Lincoln Square 13 — Auditorium 2
Obviously Lincoln Square is the big-event theater in the city, but I’m curious how people feel about its regular 70mm auditorium versus the IMAX room. Is Aud 2 actually one of the stronger non-IMAX 70mm rooms, or is the venue’s reputation doing most of the work?

Regal Union Square — Auditorium 17
This one seems like a strong contender on paper: stadium seating, a more modern multiplex setup, and probably a decent-sized room. I’m curious how reliable the 70mm projection is here and whether people consider it a top-tier option.

Village East by Angelika — Screen 1 / Jaffe Art Theatre
This feels like the most romantic/cinephile choice. Historic room, beautiful setting, and definitely the kind of place where a 70mm screening feels like an event. But I’m wondering how the actual presentation holds up: screen size, sound, sightlines, and projection quality.

Cinema 123 by Angelika — Screen 1
Seems like it could be a comfortable option, especially with recliners, but I don’t know if it has the scale or presentation quality people look for in 70mm. Would love to hear from anyone who has seen 70mm here.

Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn — Auditorium 7
I like Alamo overall, and the comfort is a plus, but I’m slightly wary of the dine-in setup for serious 70mm viewings. Curious if the projection quality makes it worth it anyway.

The Odyssey Opening Weekend Giveaways?

Do we know if there will be giveaways on the opening weekend other than the advertised collectible poster for the July 16 IMAX screenings? I’m hoping for a film strip that will be given away throughout Sunday, July 19.

Evil Dead Burn on Dolby at AMC Empire

Can’t believe Evil Dead Burn isn’t getting a prime-time Dolby slot at AMC Empire before 9 PM.

I like Moana too, but it already has the IMAX screen that weekend. And the following week, The Odyssey is taking over both IMAX and Dolby. That leaves Evil Dead Burn with no opportunity to play in the city’s best Dolby auditorium at a reasonable time.

Feels like a missed opportunity for what should be a great Dolby movie.

Genuinely feel bad for Milly Alcock in all this

Need to talk about milly alcock for a sec because i feel like she’s getting lost in all the box office discourse.

She was SO good in this. She broke out in house of the dragon, then showed she’s got range with sirens, and now this. If the movie had actually done numbers, I feel like this is the role that catapults her to movie star status.

Everyone’s got their theory on why it flopped. Release date, superhero fatigue, marketing, general state of the DC brand. But Milly is not on that list for me. If anything she carried a lot of the movie on her back.

The way she played Kara had so much going on emotionally. Tough but not invincible, vulnerable but never weak, and she made this version feel like its own person instead of just Superman’s cousin.

I hope this doesn’t get buried under “the movie bombed” takes, because honestly it feels like DC actually found their Kara and that’s kind of a big deal.

Odyssey Opening Weekend LSQ Options

Three of my friends are giving up their opening weekend seats after securing row H/J center-ish seats for the later screenings (weekend of Aug 8) that dropped last week. I myself can’t wait that long.

I do have my own opening weekend seat, and I will either keep it or take one of their seats before we release whichever 3 I don’t choose.

You can tell each seat has its pros and cons from a timing/view perspective. Which one would you pick?

The three AS11 wildcard queens each tell a different comeback story

I just realized the three wildcard queens each represent a completely different comeback story.

Morgan McMichaels is reinvention. We already knew she was talented, but this season she showed a version of herself that feels refreshed and fully realized.

Salina EsTitties is redemption. It feels like she’s finally getting the recognition a lot of fans thought she deserved the first time around.

Joey Jay is revelation. Not because she “improved” the most, but because AS11 revealed a side of her that I don’t think most of us knew was there.

I enjoyed these three queens this season. Genuinely. And I wish they all could come back. My heart goes to Joey Jay though.

Who is your wild card pick?

Jon Hamm making a surprise showing at the Gail Daughtry Q&A with David Wain

David Wain asked everyone to put their phones away because he didn’t want anyone recording what he was about to say. He then launched into a hilarious story about how Jon Hamm isn’t actually that handsome or smart in real life. As the audience was laughing at the obvious sarcasm, Jon Hamm quietly walked into the theater and caught everyone completely off guard.

I’m so glad I talked myself out of canceling my ticket because this ended up being the funniest and most entertaining Q&A I’ve ever attended. What an absolute treat!

Joey Jay’s gold buttons just dropped!

Our first openly gay contestant is also a business woman! Talk about striking while the iron is hot.

Listen, I’m the last person to colllect merch from queens or any celebrity really. But the gold buttons moment is one of the funniest in drag race herstory. I think I might grab one so I can share with my grandchildren a memento of queer art in my time.

Fan First Screening 6/24

Do we know if they’re giving out memorabilias at tomorrow’s fan first screening? I heard they are at the 6/25 and 6/26 screenings. I would find it odd if the fan first watchers are not getting anything.

What is the difference between these two AMC LSQ Odyssey screenings on opening day?

Hey fellow NYers, anyone know the difference between these two? Will there be something special like an Intro or Q&A at the 7pm screening on the opening day of The Odyssey?

What an insane year of movies for A-Listers!

This is a ridiculous year for moviegoers. So ridiculous it fucks up your weekly A-List movie planning.

You get 4 movies a week and 4 reservations, which sounds amazing until all your future slots are taken by “cant-miss movies, or else you get massive fomo.”

And in New York, it feels extra true because if you want good seats for Lincoln Square or Empire Dolby, you can’t really be too casual about it. Those shows fill up fast.

Not ranting. Just funny realizing how much I frequent AMC in a month. Maybe the movie gods are telling me it’s ok to take a week off the big screen and go outside or something. 😭🤣😭

But I can’t be the only one with this A-List right now, right? Not in New York

Anyone who had sexual side effects on finasteride but tolerated dutasteride? Looking for specific switch experiences

Hey everyone — looking for experiences from people who were in a similar situation, not trying to start a finasteride vs. dutasteride debate.

About three years ago, I started oral finasteride together with topical minoxidil. I stayed on it for several months, but eventually started experiencing the side effects people commonly talk about: lower libido, weaker erections, etc. So I stopped, and things improved.

Later on, I tried topical finasteride because of reports that it’s tolerated better than oral. Unfortunately, after about a month, the same side effects started coming back, so I stopped that too.

For a while, I basically resigned myself to either managing hair loss without 5AR inhibitors or just accepting the direction my hair was going. But I keep wondering if there’s still a way to approach this more carefully.

I know dutasteride is generally considered stronger/more potent than finasteride, so the assumption is often that the side effects would be stronger too. That said, I’ve seen some anecdotal reports from people who had issues with finasteride but somehow tolerated dutasteride better, or had milder side effects after switching.

For those who had sexual side effects on finasteride but successfully switched to dutasteride, what did you do differently?

Did you start with a very low dose or low frequency, like once or twice a week? Did you gradually work up to 0.5 mg? Did you stay on a lower dose long-term? How long did it take to know whether you could tolerate it?

I know this is all anecdotal and I’m not looking for medical advice or guarantees. I’m just trying to understand what approaches worked for people who were sensitive to finasteride but still managed to make dutasteride work.

Anyone else getting a “Load Failed” error when trying to log in?

Hi everyone — wondering if anyone here has run into this issue before and knows how to troubleshoot it.

I had an issue earlier where a canceled A-List reservation seemed to be stuck on my account. AMC support advised me to sign out to help clear it. I did that, but when I tried logging back in, I started getting a “Load Failed” error.

At first, I thought it might be a password issue, so I reset my password successfully and received confirmation. But even with the new password, I’m still getting the same “Load Failed” error and can’t access my account.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Was it an app issue, account issue, or something AMC had to fix on their end

I’ve already contacted AMC support, but figured I’d ask here too in case there’s a known workaround. Thanks!

Barrier moisturizer/night cream recs for normal-to-dry skin on tret + azelaic acid?

https://preview.redd.it/9oxtgq29l98h1.jpg?width=303&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40f30dd3b113fb30b011fed4e1ed1c3d8e9f9dc7

Hi everyone — looking for recommendations for a good nighttime barrier moisturizer.

My skin type is normal to dry, and I’ve become more consistent with skincare lately, especially after noticing my marionette lines becoming more apparent. I’m male, 43, Asian, around Fitzpatrick III–IV.

My main concerns are texture, dullness, some uneven tone, and fine lines, but I’m especially trying to be careful around my eye area. I have some under-eye puffiness/dark circles, fine lines around the eyes when I smile, and I occasionally get eczema on my left eyelid/left eyebrow, so I’m trying to avoid anything too irritating or heavily fragranced.

My skin tolerates actives pretty well. I currently use tretinoin 0.1% (cream) and azelaic acid 15% daily, except Sundays when I take a break from actives. I started using tret 2 years ago but I was inconsistent until 2 months ago. As for azelaic acid, I'm new to it —only been using it for 2 months.

Current nighttime routine:

  1. La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser
  2. Azelaic Acid 15%
  3. Tretinoin 0.1%
  4. SKIN1004 Bakuchiol Eye Cream
  5. CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream

I’m almost done with my CeraVe night cream and I’m looking to replace it. I don’t mind richer creams. I actually tend to prefer them, but the CeraVe feels a little too sticky for me in the summer.

I’ve been seeing good things about Vanicream, LRP Cicaplast, Aestura, Dr. Althea, and Zeroid, but I’m not sure which would be best as a nightly barrier cream with tret and aa.

Would love recommendations, especially from people with normal-to-dry skin using tret+aa together. I’m looking for something moisturizing and barrier-supportive, but not overly sticky or suffocating in warm weather.

Would also appreciate thoughts from anyone with sensitive or eczema-prone eyelids, dark circles and puffiness: do you use your night cream near the orbital area, or do you keep a separate bland eye/eyelid product?
