Predator

How do you catch a moth between your paws and put it in your mouth in a second. I followed him into the house, but he and his partner were staring up at the ceiling, so I assume he let it go.

I've seen him with moths before, so I expect to find a collection of moth spines one day, along with all of the missing toys.

Delta Pro 3 unexpectedly turning off AC output?

I went to get an ice cream bar out of the freezer last night and the door was ajar, the floor was soaking wet and the DP3 had its AC power off. I turned the AC bypass back on and the freezer started alarming right away, power loss for 21 hours and high temperature. No shit. The bacon in the door was thawed, but still fairly cold.

I assume the DP3 caused the freezer to lose power and not the other way around. I'm not sure why the door was open, defrosting water pressure? I checked the power history and it looked like it had been off for about 24 hours. I could not find an events log or a log of the battery discharge or charging.

Has anyone had their DP3 unexpectedly turn off the AC output? I suppose one of the cats could have been rubbing against it. A notification from the EcoFlow app would have been nice.

I installed the EcoFlow integration for Home Assistant, so I can send my own notifications. I asked for Developer access months ago, but I never got the access key. It was there last night, once I requested verification. I'll be installing a power failure alarm and a LoRa thermometer in the freezer, something I should have done months ago. Hopefully I'm not out a few thousand in food.

Wifi signal (Eufy) stepping on Channel 11

I've had an 'Unknown' Wi-Fi signal stepping on Channel 11 for quite some time. I looked up the MAC ID and it says it's a Smart Innovation LLC product, so Eufy. The problem is it does not appear to be one of mine. It's using Wi-Fi 4, but I understand that's not uncommon.

I find it hard to believe it's not mine, but I don't see it's MAC ID on my router. Anyway to narrow this down, other than hunting by camera?

What is the current fee to withdraw $221 USD in BTC to an external wallet?

I get different answers when I try to look this up. I see 0.00015 BTC, but I don't want to get burned if the vendor is short.

Who the hell wrote the Broil King assembly instructions?

I decided to assemble my Regal S 590 Pro today. The first clue that I was in for a challenge is that none of the boxes/parts are labeled. The next disaster is that all of the screws are dumped into one bag and a lot of the screws look very similar.

The manual is also generic, which is OK, if you tell me. I must have spent ten minutes looking for the propane slide out tray for my Natural Gas BBQ. Then another ten minutes looking for the Propane tank hose holder. The base is also very flimsy, it fell apart multiple times while trying to attach it to the cook box. It didn't help that I was missing a couple of screws and they don't supply extras. You can purchase extra screws for $4 in some cases though.

I see people raving about the assembly videos, but they are no better. They show you the assembly, but tell you to add part X using the supplied screws. Yeah, which of the 50 supplied screws, most of which look very similar. The video did show me one thing, I have a long way to go.

I was trying to attach the flimsy base to the cooktop, but I could not get the 'supplied screws' to thread. I'm pretty sure they are the correct screws based on the number of screws and the size of the screws. If I used smaller screws they would not secure the base adequately. I gave up due to the failing light, so I could take a much needed drink break.

I see people bitching about the Chinese manuals, but this expensive POS has nothing on Chinese products. If you're going to write assembly instructions, label the parts, refer to the labels in the assembly instructions, provide extra screws and list the specs for the screws, so people can replace missing/damaged parts. DO NOT throw all of the parts in a bag and say assemble with the parts supplied. DO NOT use proprietary parts, so people have to source your overpriced OEM parts. If you're going to use one manual for multiple models, outline the exceptions in the manual.

I put together a Chinese microwave cabinet about a year ago that had more parts than your BBQ, but the manual was moderately more clear. When I was missing parts, they sent me a complete set of replacement parts free of charge. They didn't expect me to pay $4 for a screw.

Incredible shrinking Carbon Filters?

Is it just me or is the quality of grow room carbon filters decreasing? I bought a replacement filter for my DIY bedroom air filter, which consists of a large carbon filter, inline fan and Hepa filter. The new filter is half the height of the existing carbon filter and one quarter the weight. I finally found the original prefilter for the old filter and it was a Vortex Pro 70s. I can no longer get these locally, so I'm going to substitute an AC Infinity XL.

I'm in the process of building a couple of large whole house air purifiers, with 12" Carbon filters, 10" fans and a larger HEPA filter. However, the wildfire smoke has been bad, so I want to replace/upgrade some parts on the existing bedroom filter and streamline the design.

I'm in Canada, the filter is for a 12x12x8 (1,152 cf) bedroom with VOC issues and wildfire smoke. The Carbon filter was $139, inline fan was $169, the new HEPA filter enclosure was $136 USD and the 14x14x4 replacement filters are $24. The dual ball bearing fan noise is up to 32db and 402 CFM or 21 air changes per hour, although I usually run it at half power for sleeping. The fan uses 38 watts at full power.

Forcing Homebase off channel 11

Something is hammering Channel 11 at -20db. I have to disconnect the router and then flip the breaker to make sure it's not a me problem. I can manually set channels on my router, but that kills the channel optimization.

I was wondering if rebooting the base stations daily or more than once daily would solve this issue temporarily. I'd like to randomize the reboot times for obvious reasons. I've read that this lokely won't work, as the HomeBase is not good about changing its channel. I'm going to start recording these unknown signals and report it, if it continues.

How strong a signal to be considered a jammer?

I was trying to watch the World Cup on my tablet, which I've been doing for a few weeks, but I could not get a signal. I switched to a wired connection and the problem went away. I ran the signal detector on my phone and some 'Unknown' signal was coming in at -35db. My Arlo base station was coming in at -50 and it's a few feet from where I was sitting.

I had similar issues a few months ago when my cameras were losing their connection. Yes, i have wired cameras too, but I'd like to track down the rogue signal. My phone doesn't allow me to find the direction of the signal.

Is anyone running a signal jammer detector like HackRF One or Wi-Fi jammer detector. I'd like something that records the signal levels and sounds an alarm if a certain threshold is reached. A directional antenna would be nice too. Any better options out there, that are not ridiculously expensive?

Why don't my cats GAF about the airplanes?

I live near the airport, so we occasionally get planes depending on the wind direction. Sometimes they are low and loud depending on the weather. Today they are landing every minute. My siblings don't care, not even the 'skittish' female. The kitten seems pretty laid back too, that's him in the picture. All 20 pounds of him. He was initially watching them come in, but he is just ignoring them now.

Samsung Ultra 26 offer?

I see Bell is offering the Samsung 26 Ultra for $26.84 a month, plus 200 GB for $61 a month i really don't need 200 GB and my current plan is $46 a month, so the phone is really $41.84 a month. Is this the best deal I can get?

I got a text a while ago about a free Crave subscription, but I passed, as i here it's mostly 720P, but I wanted to watch the World Cup on my tablet. I found the offer on My Bell, but My Bell has a username, not a password. I tried to signin to Crave with my email address and the My Bell password, but it says does not compute. What am I missing.

Explain building a shed roof like I'm five

I got a quote to build a simple 10x16 shed and they want $11K. 🤣 They want $900 to paint it. I can buy the prefinished siding for $400. That price doesn't include the pad BTW.

I'm familiar with stud walls and hanging doors, although doors are not my strong suit. I've never built a roof though. I spent the afternoon arguing with Google over placement of rafter ties vs blocking. I know I don't want trusses and it may not have a ridge, but I likely want to add solar panels at some point, so a ridge may be necessary. I'll be using 2x6 rafters and ties and the pitch will be 9/22.

I'm sitting here looking up at my deck roof, 14x14, which has a double ridge beam, no blocking, no birdsmouth notching and a 'post' sitting on an end beam supporting the ridge. I assume the rafters are just toenailed to the triple 2x12 beams supporting the roof. The rafter ties also rest on the beams and are fastened to the rafters at the beam. There is also a brace sitting on the rafter ties running the length of the deck. I appreciate the simplicity of no birdsmouth notching, but I'm wondering how they lined it all up to nail it. Maybe there's some strong ties i can't see because of the multiple coats of stain.

I'd like some advice for a simple roof that may eventually have to support 12 solar panels on my 10x16 shed. We do get some snow, but no hurricanes or tornados. Yes, i have tools BTW.

Mounting a generator inlet box

I want to mount an L14-30P inlet on an outside wall, with conduit leading to Nema 5-15R panel on the inside. This will be in my furnace room and the generator will be at least 15' from the furnace intake. I know i have to caulk around the inlet box, but what about height off the ground? The installation is at least 30' from the electrical panel.

Aqara FP2 10004 Error

I can't connect my Aqara FP2 to my Samsung Ultra 24. It gets struck on Step 4. I restarted my phone, disabled my 5G WAN on my router and my phone is connected to the 2.4G network. I also tried factory resetting the Aqara FP2, but nothing works.

I know this is not a new issue. Any bright ideas?

Shed install

I want a small install to feed my EcoFlow Delta Pro 3.

I couldn't find a local installer that didn't want to populate my whole house for a 100K and I have terrible angles and sun direction. It would take me 50 years to pay it back, not including a new roof.

I'm thinking about having a 10x16 shed installed that should hold about 12 x 200W panels. My question is how did you run the cable to your house, so that it would pass a building permit and electrical inspection. I can rent a trencher easy enough and install conduit if required, but can I leave it above ground for the portion that runs under the deck? I assume not.

Shed size and setback in Mississauga

Google says i don't need a building permit for a shed up to to 15 SM, 160 sf, but some site selling sheds says I need a permit for any shed over 108 sf. I also saw some old threads here talking about 3 feet for setbacks, but Google says i need 1.2 metres based on my lot size. I think my old shed is setback 3', so I assume the rules have changed. I also assume the setback includes the roof, however minor that is.

I called 311,but they referred me to Zoning, so I'm waiting with baited breath.

Has anyone been through this process BTW?
