Chin ups at 57 🙂

I like the neutral grip, it feels best on my body. I typically do three sets.

57M 5’7” 212-160: 5 years maintenance and recomposition

57 years old. Started this journey in 2019. Lost 50 pounds in roughly a year and a half. Then began working on strength, training and gaining muscle. I’m natural. Lost my leg to a drunk driver in 2009. I hate lean proteins, fruit, vegetables, and a moderate amount of healthy carbs and fats. I use an arc trainer, and elliptical machine, swim laps, and do strength training. I alternate push and pull days. Favorite exercise exercises include chin ups, dips, push ups, overhead press, flys, curls, seated row. It is my goal to show what is possible in one’s 50s with obstacles. Happy to answer any questions.

Close grip push-ups while on break (57 years old)

I like to do push-ups on break with my coworker. I really like using these handles and I like the close grip. As can be seen, yes, I have a disability. Lost my leg to a drunk driver in 2009. I’m in the best physical shape of my life at 57.

On vacation with my son

My son and workout buddy, Noah is 15. Noah is on the spectrum. I posted several weeks ago about how working out together has transformed both of our lives. It has transformed my health - and I’ve lost 50 pounds - and it has transformed our relationship. We have bonded over the years in ways I cannot have imagined possible through walking, going to the gym, swimming, doing cardio and strength training.

The movement does not stop on vacation. Plenty of hiking, swimming, and moving around. These pictures are from our vacation in Washington last week.

I have been amazed at the connection that has been strengthened through exercise and physical activity. 🙏🙏🙏

Maintaining a 50+ pound weight loss 5+ years

Happy to answer any questions.

Started this journey in 2019 at age 51. Took roughly a year and a half to lose the 50 pounds. Also began working on recomposition. Gaining some muscle. I share my journey as a guy who has gotten into shape in his 50s. I also have been able to maintain this for going on five years. My approach was, predictably, pretty simple. Eating less, and exercising more. These days, I focus on getting a lot of lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables, along with a modern amount of healthy carbs and fats. I log all of my food into an app and into the state I weigh my food on a kitchen scale. When I lost the weight, I lost it slowly roughly 2 to 3 pounds a month.

I go to the gym daily. Daily cardio, using an arc trainer, and swimming. I strength train 4 to 5 days a week alternating push and pull days. I focus on compound exercise exercises like pull-ups, dips, push-ups, etc.

As the question does come up, I did this naturally. No drugs, no TRT. I don’t judge, that was my path.

51 to 57 - my fitness quest

51 to 57. 50+ pounds lost and kept off. Gained some muscle. As the question does come up, I did this naturally. My approach is cardio, swimming, and a lot of compound exercises like dips, chin ups, close grip push-ups, overhead press, seated row, etc. I get at least 1 g of protein per pound of lean body weight. Usually more. I focus on lean proteins, fruit, vegetables, and a moderate amount of healthy carbs and fats. What I’m going for is natural, tone, defined, and sustainable.

From 50 to 57 - Later Life Fitness Transformation 🙂

(My last post was taken down, my mistake.) I began a fitness quest at age 50. As can be seen, I do have a disability. The damage was caused by a drunk driver in 2009. Despite this, I am in the best shape of my life at age 57. I have found that a combination of cardio, strength, training, food logging using an app, group support, and changing my habits have been very effective. As the question does come up, I’ve done this naturally. Diet consists of lean proteins, fruit, vegetables in a moderate amount of healthy carbs and fats. I’ve tried different things and for me this has worked the best. Exercise consists of swimming, elliptical, arc trainer, and alternating push and pull days at the gym. Favorite exercises at the gym include chin ups, dips, seated row, overhead press, curls, crunches, push-ups, flys. I try to listen to my body and do it feels the best. 🙏🙏

[50] - [57]

I’m grateful to be in better shape now at 57 than I was at 50 or 40, or 30 for that matter. 50+ pounds lost and kept off through changing my habits. I lost the weight slowly, by changing my habits, and because I lost the weight by changing my habits, I’ve been able to keep it off. I’ve also been working out at the gym for some years now. I get daily cardio, swim several times a week, and I do strength training. I alternate push and pull days. My favorite exercises are compound exercises like chin ups, dips, push-ups, overhead press, etc. I don’t do low-carb. But I do eat a lot of lean protein, fruit, and vegetables. Healthy carbs, and fats in moderation. As the question does come up, I am natural. No judgment, and whatever people choose to do, but my choice is natural. No drugs, no TRT. Happy to answer any questions.
