TV vs Reality: Consequences for bad bosses

So I noticed a trope on tv where the captain or department head or whatever makes a TERRIBLE call and it’s the protagonist that suffers the consequences and the boss some how is excused even tho it was their fault. I know LE typically has a lot of levels, so like the “boss” also has a boss. And I’m confused if this trope is to advance plot or if it’s true in LE that it’s normal for the person who made the bad call to get off light if they have subordinates they can point the finger at.

Why are the girls so MESSY!!

Every season the girls are DISGUSTING when it comes to caring for this beautiful space that is provided for them. And every time one of the girls is like “we need a system, everyone needs to clean up after themselves.“ the other girls will go off “she’s not my mom.” “She‘s trying to tell everyone what to do.” “I do things my way, I’m not gonna do anything I don’t want to do.” And I’m just STUNNED! Cause it’s not only basic common sense and decency, but it’s also so unprofessional! As a model you will have to share space with other people, you will not be in a penthouse in the sky with a maid, jfc. And sometimes I think it’s cause they are young, but I went to boarding school and university and it was NOT like that. Boarding school, 14-18 year olds, 4 showers 9 girls, 1 washer dryer 16 girls. We made it work! We scheduled, we respected!

Specific scene that is bringing this on: C7, Melrose is COOKING FOR EVERYONE, meaning she is feeding you bitches and she said “I will cook for everyone, but then y’all need to do the dishes.” And the girls are looking at her like she is a monster for cooking for them. I just cannot even. These girls are like “I come from a rough life, blah blah blah.” But then expect maid service and then some. Just UGH!!

Fever dream?

Why do I have this memory of a photo shoot from this show where the girls had to dress AS TYRA and the girl who got the Red Hair Tyra did not do well? Was this real or is the show so wild that it feels real even tho it was possibly a dream?

Weird line to draw?

Does anyone else think it’s weird that the other air bender kids got so hung up on Aang being the Avatar? Like, wasn’t it already unbalanced since he was a master with tattoos and they weren’t? Idk, just seems kind of arbitrary that they wouldn’t let him play because he was the avatar.

Origins of Lightning bending

Do y’all think that lightning bending was invented because of the water benders were the oppressive force at one time? Fire is obviously weak to water from a purely elemental standpoint, lightning turns the tables. Just a random thought I had. I wish they would do more prequel content!

Season 1 is the best, but…

I don’t think it makes any sense that they found Sam’s body in the landfill. There are so many petitions to search landfills for missing people that go completely unanswered and it’s not like someone would casually stumble on them in a LANDFILL! I generally think this season is perfect television, but this one detail kind of bothers me.

Also the Hannah of it all. Cause she’s wildly unstable and the whole “I’ll say whatever you need me to say.” It sounds like a DA’s dream, but actually it’s admitting that she is so emotional she is willing to commit perjury and that’s not a good thing.

WIBTAH If I stopped babysitting for my friend?

This is not my normal job, but I agreed to be the regular babysitter for my good friend for the summer, since her 7 year old is on vacation while she is working crazy hours. it’s the peak of her work season, and I get that she is overwhelmed, but here’s the deal: her kid is really difficult, and my friend and her partner are not the most reliable when it comes to planning, punctuality, or paying. I never know when I’m going to get home or if they’ll have meals prepared for the kid and I never know what I’m gonna get from the kid that day. They aren’t Nanny 911 bad, but this kid is definitely spoiled and bratty and not easy to manage. Again, I’m not normally in childcare and even tho I’ve worked in classrooms, it’s waaaay different one on one. There are still like 5 weeks of summer vacation and I know my friend needs my help, but I’m sitting here at 12:30AM when the dad said 10:30-11 and I just don’t know how much more I can do. And it’s really awkward to confront them about any of it, because we are good friends and I don’t want to spoil that. HELP!

EDIT: Thank you for all the feedback. I actually ended up having a good conversation after they got home where we addressed some of the bad behaviours and the payments. I don’t want to give away too much personal info, but the work my friend does means that she really cant come home at a fixed time. I knew that going in, but didn’t expect that there would be nights where both parents can’t come home on time or that not on time would mean 2 hrs late instead of 20 minutes… that’ll be the next conversation, but I am feeling much better knowing that a) they were receptive to what I was saying, and b) that none of you think I’m the AH, lol.

What does discipline look like in your home?

I grew up with two totally opposite parenting styles (divorced parents). My dad was the type to yell, threaten, spank, etc. very fond of the phrase “I’ll give you something to cry about.” My mom was the total opposite like no toy guns, the card game was had to be called peace if we were playing at her house. Very fond of the phrase “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.”

I’m currently nannying for a friend and I can’t really get a read on her style… obviously it is not violent, this kid (7) only just learned that any kid gets hit by their parents from an old book where someone got a spanking. But knowing this kid as I do, they absolutely do not give a shit if you are disappointed in them. They sort of revel in annoying people and they are very disrespectful to adults and dismissive of other kids. I haven’t seen either parent attempt discipline in front of me, and I do understand that part of their parenting style is to allow self determination and independence. Which I totally respect, and I definitely see the benefits of that approach, but I am curious how other parents balance that with discipline which I think is necessary to raise a considerate and empathetic person in the long term.

Would Minato have been a bad father?

I haven’t seen all of Boruto, but from what I gather it seems like being Hokage just automatically makes you a bad dad. You are simply too busy to be a family man. And I kind of got the impression that Hiruzen also struggled to balance family and duty as Hokage. Minato never got the chance to find out, but he seems so perfect I just can’t imagine him being a neglectful parent! What do y’all think? is it the job, or the person who has it? Feel free to comment with Boruto spoilers. Like does Shikamaru start to suck too?

Small note: Did Naruto ever learn his dad’s flash technique? Cause why can’t the clone be in the office and if there was an emergency he could flash over from his house? Why does the family get the clones and the village gets the real deal? Kind of a silly distinction, tbh since they all link up and Naruto doesn’t live the moments of the clones any less than he lives his normal life… but that cake scene seems to be the only fodder for Boruto fans that the MC is right to be a whiny brat

Do you recognize your child’s flaws?

I’ve been nannying for my friend’s kid (7), and frankly she’s a huge brat. She’s really spoiled, doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to, has trouble with other kids, you name it. My Question is: Do y’all know that you have a brat on your hands, or do you sort of over look it all until someone else tells you it’s a problem? of course your kid is “spunky” and has “a big personality“ but when do you start to see flaws? Is there an age where you start to see it, or do you always know? What triggers you into “parent“ mode when you see bad behaviours?

WIBTAH If I Stopped Visiting Family for a Year?

I live in a different country from my family and I’m always the one expected to fly out for holidays or whatever. It’s been like this for years and I’ve been very understanding even tho most everyone in my family has a passport. My grandpa passed away this year and I had to move as well (within the same foreign country). I’ve flown 10 times this year (basically 20 planes bc of layovers) between visiting him in the hospital, the funeral, holidays afterwards (first without him which was tough), and now some special family events and I have another flight coming up at the end of summer and another as part of the move afterwards. I am EXHAUSTED!

I had planned to basically just not see anyone for a year starting in October (I have to fly AGAIN in October for the Yahrzeit), but my other grandpa who is still alive really wants me to come stay with him for a week or two or go on a trip with him and my sister sometime this year as well. My grandma on that side passed away during COVID and it’s been hard on him and then other family members moved out of state the last few years, so I know he’s been lonely and I feel terrible not going. I would suggest he visit me instead, but he doesn’t have a passport and it’s very difficult for him to get one bc he does not live in his country of origin and said country is in a difficult political situation. So it’s entirely on me to make the time and effort, and obviously I know that time is precious and he won’t always be around to visit. But I am so overwhelmed and tired from moving and flying and grief and I REALLY want/need a break.

WIBTA if I put off any visits for a full year?

Edit to add: The special family event was last month and I saw my grandpa who is still alive at that event and spent time with him during that week, but it was with my siblings and cousins and uncle and Auntie. It’s not like I haven’t seen him all year.

Those 10 points

So in PS at the end where Dumbledore gave Neville 10 points for standing up to his friends I thought it was just some Gryffindor point fodder to make sure they won the cup. But now I realize that was actually an important moment for Dumbledore, because he was thinking about Remus Lupin. Dumbledore made Remus a prefect because he thought he was the voice of reason amongst the marauders and thought he’d be able to rein them in a little. But he didn’t, he couldn’t. It genuinely is an act of bravery to stand up to your friends, and Remus was too cowardly to do it, in all 7 years, even when his secret was exposed. Neville could do it as a first year. Truly meant to be in Gryffindor. Big moment, but under appreciated. Shout out to Neville

Do You Compliment Other Men?

Saw another post asking men about compliments they remember that stood out. The preface of the post was that men don’t get many compliments in general. Which made me think about my own experience with compliments which almost always come from other women. So I was wondering if y’all compliment the homies? How often? What about men you don’t know? Just curious about how men treat other men.

Does G-d Hate Flags?

One of the reasons I could never be a Zionist, even if the plan was to move us all to an uninhabited island, is because the concept of Jewish nationalism doesn’t sit right with me from a religious perspective. Obviously we have had nations before, but look how that went 😬

I think about this a lot because I hear so many Israelis say things like “We are Israeli first and Jewish second.” But recently I’ve been thinking about the push in recent history (basically WW1 on) for national identity to supersede any cultural identity. Nixon also addressed American Jews in this manner. Basically saying he could set his antisemitism aside for American Jews because they are American first. This concept of putting a flag before G-d or faith feels a lot like breaking Number 1… Flags have started to look like idolatry to me.

So I wanted to hear from other Jews about how they feel about the role of nationalism in faith and how it affects your identity as an individual. Do you feel a strong sense of identity associated with your nationality? Does that identity support or conflict with your Jewish identity?

It’s hard to tell what’s right and wrong these days…

So, I think I might have done something wrong, but these days it’s really hard to tell and I could use some guidance from the community.

I’m from a really small town, less than 2000 people. It’s a really lovely community with rainbow flags everywhere and Palestinian flags here and there. I loved growing up there and I love visiting. I keep abreast of the comings and goings via the town message board and today I saw a post from an Israeli family that are relocating to our town. I never would have seen this coming, bc the one thing I always felt was lacking in our town is a Jewish community. But we do live kind of like a Kibbutz (as much as one can in the US, lol), so maybe that was the appeal? Anyway, here’s where I worry I have done something bad…

I messaged the person who made the post. I told them that this town might not be a good fit for them. I explained that we don’t have any synagogues even if you drive over an hour. And I mentioned that a lot of Israelis in the city I live in consider Palestinian flags threatening and that they will see them a lot in my small town. I basically tried to discourage them from moving here as politely as I could. And idk, I feel like just because I didn’t tell them to get out or that “We don’t take too kindly to Israelis around here…” doesn’t mean I didn’t do something wrong.

Methods aside, my sentiment is that I don’t want Israelis to move here and that I don’t want them to feel welcome. And idk, maybe that’s unfair, not like everyone who lives here is a saint or anything, but I just genuinely don’t want them here. I don’t want their 3 kids at school with my friends’ kids feeding them Hasbara bullshit. I don’t want the parents making a stink with the town council to ban Palestinian flags (which I have seen attempts and complaints in the city I live in normally). I just don’t want their aggressive negativity to paint the town’s view on Jews, which feels inevitable. And I feel like such a hypocrite, bc in my ideal scenario I want to see the end of Israel and a new wave of diaspora, but here I am saying “Go somewhere else tho.” idk how to grapple with my feelings and I could use some advice or insight or something from Jews I trust 😥

Edit to add: the person THANKED me for the heads up.

Second Edit: Someone thought I should mention that the profile of the wife of the family who made the post is full of pro-war articles, photos and fundraisers for IOF, and AI photos depicting Israelis suffering because of the war. I thought this was basically to be expected, but I guess I should clarify that it’s not like my Impression of how they would fit in here was baseless.

Third Edit: I decided to check out the husbands profile, bc I heard what y’all were saying about making assumptions, and just cause most Israelis support the actions of their government (according to polls), that doesn’t mean that they are active participants or that they can’t be educated by a nice and welcoming community. Picture of him in full IOF gear, holding a massive gun and hugging his kid…

Can someone explain Tyler’s age, grade, and baseball timeline?

First time watcher and I’m confused about Tyler’s expectations regarding baseball. Because when the dad gives him the car he says that Ty is 16. But he’s talking about drafts and college recruitment during the summer after that, so he has at least another year of school left. And the average age of an MLB starter is like 25. Is he just like THAT good before the injury? And if he is, then wouldn’t he just wait to heal and try again? idk, I’m really confused, maybe someone who knows baseball better can explain why it seems like his dream is completely over when he isn’t even 18 and hasn’t finished his rehab?
