Am I making a mistake maxing my non-reg with VDY?

I figure this sub would give me a different opinion given its dividend focus.

This is specific to my non-reg account only as my other registered accounts are maxed with common ETFs and not the point of discussion.

I am in my low-30s, and my non-reg is all VDY. I do not need or spend the dividends and re-invest it. My avg cost on it is in the 50s

Main reason was for the tax benefits of said eligible dividends as my normal income is ok (100-130k)

What should I be deciding if say instead of VDY I redeploy it to my other typical ETFs? (*EQT ones). Past ~3 years VDY has killed it even from a capital gains perspective and did better than my typical *EQT ones from a YoY perspective

When rolling out the new 110 KPH Speeds across the 400 series highways, why didn't we go digital or even introduce variable speed limits?

I hope we can have a genuine conversation and not everyone replying "bc Ford is dumb" or similar. Is there any science behind it or is it because our infrastructure can't support

I know Vancouver has it to a varying degree. I also know places like Germany have digital boards with the current highway speeds. I know parts of the sea-to-sky in Vancouver change from 90 to 110 variably.

Wouldn't this have been a perfect time to introduce it?

Corporate Tax - 2nd Year Substantially High Income vs 1st Year

Questions that I would like to confirm

I have a corp and in business for 2nd year. Last year 2025 I was doing this job on the side (i.e low/less income). For example I made about 50k.

As a result for my Corporate Taxes for 2025, I see that I have to remit about 500$ a month to my corporate tax account for 2026.

In 2026 I have since committed to this full time. Say my income now is 150k.

What happens to my instalment payments that I am currently paying? I am sure the 500$ a month is too low.
Follow up Q - what happens in 2027 when say my income goes back down to 80k. Will I need to remit the higher amount monthly for that year?

CP24 had so many ads on these guys: Ontario real estate investors in limbo as ‘Simple Investor’ property firm suspends payments

I remember seeing this investor crew with numerous ads on CP24 and 680news about the "set it and forget" investment and the "ease" of passive income.

Today CP24 has this article out lol.

I am an RE investor myself and once considered them, glad I didn't go through

What happens to company pension if company is at risk of bankruptcy?

- Writing for a family member -

70+ Full Time worker (factory) for a company for 40+ years. Company had previously pensions like DB and DC. Over the last 15 or so years the pension switched to RRSP (ee puts and company matches) etc. The other pension apparently is provided for life after retirement.

The company is closing multiple factories and he still wants to work (money isn't a concern, house paid off and all kids are married/moved on and already using CPP/OAS etc)

What happens if company goes bankrupt to specifically their DB and DC pensions?

Edit: DC is held third party with companies like Sun Life/Manulif etc (he can access and view things easily). DB he mentions he has 0 info on it but a yearly statement directly from his company)

Wage Theft and unlicensed staff at Medical Clinic

-- Posting on behalf of family friend --

My fairly young adult nephew applied and "got a job" at a small medical clinic as a PT tech that requires a licence with a regulated body. They are not a doctor, but the clinic has doctors in it (think optometrist, xray or heart clinics). Don't want to be too obvious on reddit for doxxing purposes (hope it wouldn't matter)

After applying for the role they were contacted for an in person interview and were invited to shadow the clinic existing staff. The person who interviewed them said positive things and said they'd call them soon for the next steps.

"Next Steps" ended up them calling to ask if he could work the next following weeks/weekends essentially already being scheduled in for roughly 30 hours. They were told employees are paid monthly and told the "official" offer letter would come with the pay check. They did get verbal confirmation of their hourly wage and all that. Their proof of licence or educational history was NEVER vetted.

The shifts were worked, the month passed and to the surprise of no one (except my nephew...) they did not get paid. The month after they started to notice some coworkers were paid in cash (can't confirm but saw the "manager" (who interviewed them) hand cash to staff members. They also believe some staff are fully unlicensed

Questions:

  1. Who exactly would one "go after"? The manager is not a doctor at this practice -- does one go after the doctors that have the medical corporation tied to this place? They suspect the doctors are in on the scheme but 0 proof
  2. Aside from reporting to MOL, do they report to CPSO? This clinic has multiple doctors, so who would the complaint go to?
  3. Will other doctors get penalized if it is a lone wolf situation? (Either the "manager" or a doctor)
  4. Wage theft is about a couple grand. Is it worth an employment lawyer?
  5. Is there any way to remain anonymous?

Any recent success in linking their account with WS manually?

Been for about a week now to manually link my EQ bank with WS and it has failed every time. I know there is the other way with flinks/persona or whatever its called but purely asking any recent success without it before I use that service. Reached out to support who claims there is no widespread issue with manually linking so wanted to ask the community

What things do you want tied up/answered by the end of Raising Kanan?

We got 2 more EPs and I think there is too much drama left to answer. These are some of the things I hope is "answered/solved" by the end of RK.

  1. Fame and Krystal - Want >!snaps & pops!<to either be dealt with or answer why they did what they did

  2. What Marvin/Raq do to Kanan (I think this obviously will get resolved)

  3. Juke slicing up Kanan's face

  4. Juke deciding to become a full time crooked cop

  5. Fate of Stefano & Flossy (I think this obviously will get resolved)

  6. Breeze finding out Kanan is the son of a cop (think this is a storyline in Origins)

What else I miss?

Vancouver - Stay in North Van or Whistler?

Coming to Vancouver for 5 days and have the current rough itinerary. We are debating where we should say to save: driving and gas costs and being stuck in traffic. We currently have 2 reservations - one in Whistler and one in North Van that we are debating between.

Day 1: Land in YVR, go to: Granville, Kiltsano Beach, Stanley Park

Day 2: Squamish and surrounding (ex Quercus, Shannon, Mamquam falls)

Day 3: Pemberton + Lilooet Day Trip

Day 4: Grouse Mountain + Capilano Suspension Bridge + Gastown

Day 5: YVR

Accommodation Locations:

Whistler: Town Plaza
North Van: Econo Lodge in North Van

From a KM perspective North Van is better, but I am a bit scared of traffic. We aim to leave every morning at 9am to avoid people and traffic if staying in North Van and 10am if staying in whistler

NOTE: Accomodation costs in both are basically $100 difference (North Van being more) which for us is negligible given the gas price would vary

Is it government bureaucracy? Lack of land development?

I think its greed from developers to try and add as many units possible but that logic goes out the window for 3story downs

Accused of Failure to Respond for Jury Duty Questionnaire despite doing so

This is NOT A JURY SUMMONS.

A few months ago I got the typical letter for jury duty questionnaire to fill out. This time around it contained a QR code along with the questionnaire via paper format.

I filled it out via paper copy and mailed it within the 30 day "deadline".

30+ days passed, nothing additional was received.

Early this month, I got a new Jury Duty letter. I was accused of not submitting/filling out the form for the same QR Code ID Number. I again I was provided with a paper copy.

How would the jury duty people who review the questionnaire know/confirm I in fact filled it out and that it didn't get lost in the mail if they're not providing postage for registered post?

Is there money to be made in buying land and leasing it to farmers to grow crops?

Ontario

Roughly ~30 mins from 401/Highway.

I have a potential opportunity to buy land that is currently zoned for agriculture. Not much context is provided but before jumping further, I'd like to know anyone who has done this and the type of return they are seeing in leasing back the land to near by farmers either for crops/hay etc.

Electricity/hydro/water hookup exists on portion of property. Soil tested yearly

Thoughts?

Elected Quick Method for HST last quarter. I got a confirmation, how do I know if it was "accepted"?

In MyBusiness account last quarter I elected for Quick Accounting Method (April 1st) because my ITCs are too low right now. I have my gross income, and the collected HST in the quarter. I am preparing my spreadsheets to file for April 1-June 30th quarter.

When I am on the MyBusiness account to file my return, there is nothing different and when I am ready to submit, it is saying I am paying all the HST I collected?

Example
Line 101- 60k is Sales
Line 103 - 8k is collected HST this quarter

When I go to next page why would Line 115 be amount owing 8k?

I thought quick method its 8.8% as I am a business providing services?

Is it not automated?

Barring any major roster changes in the East, who are your top 8?

In no particular order, who do all have has the top 8 in the East?

For me I would say: Knicks, Detroit, Celtics (unsure tbh), 76ers, Raptors, Cleveland, Pacers, Magic

Currently not sure I'd place any of these Atlanta/Miami/Washington/Bulls in the top 8

What's your Rent to Own strategy to support affordable housing and housing builds in Ontario?

See a lot of discourse about the shenanigans in BC about the Condo Bailout by Prov+Feds which gives me the question, for those that don't like it, what's your strategy for affordable housing + rent to own for this province?

Paraphrasing here but seems the total cost is 1.45B with 145M being provided by feds and 300M by Prov. And the rest in "financing" (whatever the hell that is)
