Got a brand new gillette tech for $8

The plateing is in fantastic shape, probably only used once or twice, the blade in it was a old gillette blue blade, but it didnt even have any rust or anything on the carbon steel blade

I think ill throw a silver blue blade in it and try it out

I love when people leave mowers by the curb

I barely had to do anything to make this work. All i had to do was clean the carb out, change oil, and put new gas in it.

I mowed my lawn with it once i got it working, now its time to sell it and move on to the next one

Fed the local snappers today

These guys live in a fairly shallow pond, and always come right up when anybody goes near the pond

Had some dog treats, so i threw em in, and the snappers seemed to like em.

Got a brand new stone for $3

It's only 250 grit and 1000 grit, so fairly coarse, but it should be great as a first step kinda stone before I move to my finer ones

Should be great for things like pocket knives where I won't mind a somewhat toothy edge

The packaging says I can use windshield washer fluid as a lubricant, should I try using windshield lube, or just stick to water?

Abby is really enjoying the cool water

It's been really hot out and at 14 years old Abby really can't take the heat well. Decided that ide take her to the lake today to cool off and lounge around in the water while I try to catch some bass.

She's been sore from skin issues so the dirty water isn't great for her, but she has been cooped up a lot and needed to go have some fun. Gonna be a big bath tonight.

My fishing buddy, fluffy

This big old snapper is extremely friendly and fully unafraid of me. It's been at my fishing spot year after year for 4 years so far.

Its really interested in what I'm doing and basically sits and stares at me the entire time I fish.

It's so doscile I've picked leaches off it's shell with my knife and it didn't try to bite me, or even get away. Extremely weird behavior but it seems healthy enough.

Fluffy the snapper is back

Like clockwork this big snapper is back at the river by my place this year. This is the 4th year I've seen fluffy while fishing this spot

Fluffy is completely unafraid of people, likely because of its size and age. I think fluffy is quite old since I've never seen a bigger snapping turtle yet

I'm glad my fishing buddy is back, it's always fun to have company

Fluffy is back for a 4th year in a row

This great big snapper has always been my fishing buddy when the waters warm

Her (I think) head is as big as my fist and she is really large for a common snapper. Must be really old. Size 11 crock for scale

Shockingly friendly, and completely unafraid of me. It comes right up to my feet which is kind of wild for a wild turtle to do.

Got a big saw.

Homelite XL-76. I got it because it was cheap and was 58cc, it was extremely easy to get going. Nothing's broken on it.

I got a chain made up for it at my parts place, and it cuts great. Full chisel cuts way quicker than semi chisel, it's scary how fast this thing cuts.

I'll likely save it for big jobs and use my somewhat safer XL-1.

My homelite XL-1

So we're posting vintage chainsaws?

I got this at a yard sale and put gas in it, and it runs great. Been bucking up a lot of wood with it and it's a lot more fun than all my smaller saws.

I thought it cut fast before I sharpened the "good enough" chain on it. Now that it's sharp it cuts really fast.

Buddy keeps asking me for $3.50

He keeps diving them inches forward a little bit and pops his head up.

Seems like someone's fed this one. It's pretty friendly and seems to expect me to feed it.

Other younger one sulked off when it saw me. But this one seems to be pretty insistent

Abby likes sitting in the plants by the river

I'm taking her down by the river and thought she was looking especially photogenic today

Tried my great grandpa's "king cutter"

I inherited my grandpa and great grandpa's shaveing stuff. My great grandpa liked straight edge razors, and my grandpa had a Gillette "new" open comb.

I started with a Gillette superspeed, gave it to a friend when I got my adjustable Gillette (which is my daily driver, it is so good)

Anyway after having some experience with somewhat aggressive safety razor I decided to give the straightedge a try. I gave it a quick stropping with my loaded strop and it did ok, tho it felt a bit dull (knife grade polish on the strop, I'll move onto a much finer abrasive like jewelers rouge to get a keener more polished edge than green chromium can give).

It was still really good at cutting longer hair, and left far less razor burn than I thought it would for being a fully exposed blade.

May give a shavette a try. Idk if I wanna deal with the maintenance of a straight edge, but I like how close it shaves

Took a bit to get running, but it was "free"

I gotta trim some hedges, but I get paid to trim em, and I get the gas trimmer free

Took a little work to get going, had to throw a carb at it, but it runs great now. (High ethanol gas over winter + I have 14 carbs)

My grandparents had like 15 weed eater brand string trimmers, so spare parts weren't a problem.

I'll throw a air filter off one of the trimmers at it and it should be set

Carp keep stealing my panfish jigs

I've been fishing with "trout" magnets and I swear I keep getting carp biting them, and then breaking my line off. It's becoming quite annoying

Anyway. What does it mean if they are biting 1/64 oz jigs (junebug brown color TM trailer). What bait and rigs can I throw to deliberately catch the carp biting my jigs.

I figure if I can't catch panfish because the carp have came in and wrecked the cover for them. I could at least maybe fish for carp.

Don't talk to me or my son again

I inherited my grandpa's little homelite XL years ago, and it's always ran great for me.

I saw the older larger homelite XL-1 and figured that it was also made by Textron and should be pretty good. Thought ide have a project on my hands, but no ... Threw fuel mix and some bar oil in it and it runs like a top.

Gotta get some better hearing protection. This things crazy loud.

Having a good time with my Southbend Norseman 110G and heddon rod

Been dominating with this setup today. Group of ppl down the river haven't caught anything and I'm on fish 10

It's an excellent reel. Designed by Abu garcia, the 110 is made by Abu, but this is made in USA by Southbend. It has levelwind

How sharp do the points on this need to be?

I got this Stanley #72 after seeing it for $4 and thinking "this could be handy". Anyway, how sharp do the points need to be on it

It marks really good going along the grain, but going across the grain it's hard to use. Is it only for marking with the grain?

I was useing it to mark out spots to put screws while fixing a small ramp on my dad's property and it was fairly handy.

One single aggressive pass vs multiple mild passes

I find that I can do one pass with my Fatboy adjustable set to 7 going from neck to chin and be irritation free, but no matter what setting I can't go from chin to neck without getting bad razor burn. (Tried many blades)

Should I just set the razor to be fairly aggressive and just do one pass every time I shave? I'm not looking for the world's closest shave, just maintenance
