"Your predecessor tried to throw me out of a window"

Cornelius Fudge become Minister for Magic in 1990. Depending on when in 1990 he took office he is either talking about Margaret Thatcher or John Major.

Hilarity would want it to be Thatcher but she took office in 1979 and it stands to reason that she would have had to be told about the first wizarding war, so Harold Mitcham, the Minister of Magic during that time would have had to tell her.

I think John Major tried to throw Fudge out of a window but Thatcher was fully aware of the magical world.

What is your workplaces big red button?

We've just had an anti-theft system installed. It deploys aut after closing but can be activated during operating hours via a BIG RED BUTTON. It will take all my personal restraint to pretend it doesn't exist even while already knowing exactly what it does.

So what is your workplaces big red button and do you know what it does?

Doctors appointments and embarrassing yourself

In need of some moral support.

Had a doctor's appointment today to deal with some tummy/bum related stuff and during the examination the doctor asked if I was sexually active.

I replied "no, that is an exit only" in relation to the part being examined and it turns out they meant in general and I had to deal with the last 5 minutes of the appointment trying not to make eye contact.

Turns out it was a very minor issue but I was 'right' to get it checked.

Might have to move doctors.

Anyone else willing to share to ease my inner cringe?

Advice Needed: Do you think this photo as a tattoo, would lose the details and definition if it was coloured white?

Is it wrong to want an Ostomy bag?

I have IBSD and easily visit the toilet 6 - 8 times a day. I struggle to go on long walks or excerise for fear of crapping myself. My meals and diet are heavily restricted and just for funsies I had to get an endoscopy 2 months ago which found something mostly unrelated which they've treated but last week when I asked if I could use some anti-inflammatory meds for a short term issue and now I'm being tested for celiacs, ulcerative colitis and Crohns all of which I know I don't have.

The thing is I started thinking about it and honestly I don't know how my life would be worse with an Ostomy bag. I'm already a germaphobe so keeping it clean wouldn't be a problem. I have reliable access to medication and medical supplies and my job is extremely supportive of my condition as is.

The only obvious issue is that without a good reason I am unlikely to be able to convince a doctor that I need surgery.

Anyone else thought about it?

Advice for a friend living alone for the first time

A little back story will be needed so bare with.

My friend has been primary carer for both of her parents since she was 15. She is now 22 and both parents recently passed away. She inherited a house that she knows how to cook and clean in but really not much else. The bills used to come out directly from her parents accounts which are no hers but she doesn't know how to find out who paid for what or how much, for example.

Today she asked the group chat how often she is supposed to defrost the freezer as she has never done it but the energy efficiency officer said it needed done when they came to do the efficiency report.

So I thought I'd ask the biggest group chat I know.

What should she know that no-one would have thought to tell her over the years?

What household general maintenance should be done on a monthly or otherwise schedule?

Thank you for your help as always

Edit: I never normally edit posts after posting them but all of you are actually incredible!! I normally say this sarcastically but not today, I really hope you all have the day you deserve for being awesome

Collapsible camping toilet for thr win

So I like to go for walks around the local nature reserve at the weekends. It is mercifully close to my house but if I walk the full thing there are parts where I could be up to 45 minutes away from home. In recent months I've been restricting myself more and more due to some VERY near misses and one complete catastrophe.

I bought a camping toilet for when we go for long journeys in the car and it wasn't until I was organising some things and through the toilet (in its holdall) into one of my backpacks that I realised I'd been missing a trick.

Now the toilet, wipes, toilet roll and extra bags go into the holdall and into my walking bag. It adds extra weight but that aides in the exercise and it isn't much.

It also served a rather helpful duel purpose recently when my doctor required a 'sample' and I realised I didn't have to mess about with the normal toilet stuff if I went in the camping toilet. The whole collection process was actually easy.

I will say the one I bought holds my surprisingly well even on uneven ground and that is with currently weighing in at about 16 stone

How much blood is too much blood

I normally have IBSD but 4 weeks ago I stopped a combination treatment of antibiotics for H-Pylori and since then I've noticed and increase not just when wiping but also blood in the bowl. The doctor has said 'some' blood is normal but I haven't seen anything that gives any frame of reference for what is a 'normal' quantity.

At what did doctors take yours seriously or when did you go to the doctors?

Thank you for any and all advice

Introducting a new book with questions

I have written the first 29 chapters of a new book and was thinking about ways of getting readers/interest etc and decided if you think you might want to read a werewolf book ask me some questions about mine

You know what you like, you know what you are looking for so instead of me telling you what I think you'll like ask me about the book instead and we'll see if it interests you.

Have fun

Silverstone and Football

I'm sat watching Qualifying after a decent sprint race, before watching the race tomorrow followed (eventually) by the football.

The sun is out, there is a breeze and actually feels like a pretty good weekend.

What is going right with you just now?
