There are some neighbors on my street who have been playing their music until midnight several days per week. They are probably in their 20s and have some kind of music group or rock band and they “sing” and play instruments and wail and scream until all hours of the night. There is especially one lady who shrieks and howls and cries while “singing” and the others either play their instruments or harmonize by wailing and screaming with her.

I don’t know why nobody else has called the police on them or asked them to stop, I’ve knocked on their door and nobody answers and we have no neighborhood watch group. I’ve called the police multiple times and given their address and no one ever shows up.

What can I do now? I’m at my wits end and they are in the middle of a session rn, so I can’t even think straight long enough to write this message through their wailing.

Je cherche tous les jours depuis que j’étais accepté (il y a 8 jours), je fais des recherches sur plein de sites et facebook mais je ne trouve rien. Je veux juste du court terme mais il me semble très difficile, c’est une période chargée… J’ai regardé sur leboncoin (trop d’arnaques), les résidences étudiantes (quasiment toutes complètes), studapart (peu de choix et que de refus ou ghosting), et carte des colocs (un peu pareil mais mieux que les autres)…

Airbnb me semble assez cher pour la durée dont j’ai besoin (3-4 mois) et je sais pas où chercher car il me reste très peu de temps. Je sais pas du tout quoi faire et je veux pas devoir abandonner mon stage à cause de ça, j’en ai besoin pour valider mon master 😭

Est ce que vous avez un conseil pour comment chercher dans ce cas ? Merci 😭🙏🏻

My childhood friend (29F) just invited me as her +1 to her friend’s (28F) wedding. Its someone she’s known for a long time through her family but not particularly close. I have never met this person “Sabrina”, she seems nice but I haven’t heard much about her from stories and don’t know anything about her personality. (I’m also pretty sure I was invited as a backup bc her closer friends couldn’t make it but I’m not doing anything that day so I decided to just go lol). It will be in a nice venue in the evening and the dress code is semiformal or cocktail. Anyway what would be a safe and inoffensive, nice gift to give someone you’ve never met at their wedding that you’re a random plus one to?

I went in store and tried the Haley kate ivory shirt today and thought it looked SO cute, both in pictures and irl, but for $188 I’m not sure the quality is there?? Also it is sooo tight, I went up a size and the sleeves were still pretty tight with no give and it was really small. Went up another size and it was still tight. I’m like a b cup and could not button it across the chest even though I don’t have a large chest or stomach, it felt really tight and I feel like would be uncomfortable as an everyday top. It is admittedly a cute shirt but I don’t really know where I would be wearing this. Does anyone have this top and like it? Did you have sizing issues too with it? What occasions do you wear it for?

Trust me I moved away to another COUNTRY and this shit never ends. I talk to them much less now but even if I went fully NC I feel like they would still act like this. I dont like it because it feels icky even if I’m not even there to witness it bc I know it’s happening.

My mother thinks of me as her puppet. She has no concept of separating me from her as a person, I’m just a “younger newer” extension of her that she gets to see play out in an alternate reality where she gets to do things differently and exercise her own control.

When I was younger she would crash out whenever I would do anything that isn’t HER taste or idea. Like piercings, dyed hair, even clothing choices that weren’t her preference🙄. Now she does the same except from a distance even tho I dont listen at all.

I do go home every few years and every time I’m there or even send messages, I can hear the same whiny tone of self insertion into my life. Like even seeing someone make a post of me at work, “why didn’t you dress up more to make a speech at the event? your outfit looked so basic” or “why can’t you have a more classy hobby like playing piano? it’s so posh to play piano” “I want to buy you this tea kettle even though you dont like tea because its so nice and I like the flowers on it”

Both of my parents are retired and dont do much so it seems like they are either really bored or just have low sense of self. My mother doesn’t have much of a life of her own like hobbies or interests so she seems to follow along with my life as if it’s a reality show. It’s honestly really sad and I dont see it changing much any time soon.

If you had parents like this were you able to put an end to this kind of behavior for good?

Recently one of my roommates was telling a story about her work, she used the english word jackpot saying her boss was really happy. it was something like « il a trouvé le candidat parfait hier c’était une personne vraiment intelligente et gentille, et super bien formée en la matière donc il était genre jackpot !! »

It sounds like an anglicisme and since she is younger i think sometimes they do use english inspired expressions into french but im wondering how the french way would be?

I think there is cagnotte in a more literal sense and maybe people can also use the english version as well, but is there a french equivalent for the word jackpot in this context or a similar expression that has the same meaning?

Je suis un étudiant en master et cette après midi j’ai reçu une offre de stage alors que c’était la pire de mes candidatures. Je sais pas si ça veut dire qu’ils étaient vraiment désespérés car c’était la seule entreprise de ne pas me ghoster jusqu’à présent et ils étaient indulgents au point d’accepter qqn qui avait fait une lettre de motivation bâclée et complètement foiré l’entretien.

En plus ce n’est même pas dans le domaine de mon master. Je sais que je dois être heureux pour l’opportunité mais je me méfie presque parce que je m’étais vraiment planté 😭

C’était un entretien en visio et je connaissais pas du tout la réponse à plusieurs questions et j’étais trop fatigué même pour chercher sur un autre onglet, donc j’avais répondu seulement « euhh désolé je sais pas…💀 » ou « je saurais pas vous répondre à ce sujet… » Je n’ai répondu à quasiment aucune question et ils n’avaient pas l’air contents, ils ont juste dit bon ok merci et ils ont terminé le visio.

je sais pas s’ils s’en fichaient juste ou sinon ils étaient désespérés pour trouver qqn, pourtant c’est une organisation assez bien connue. Techniquement je n’ai même pas la bonne formation pour la secteur dans laquelle ils travaillent. La seule chose qui me vient à l’esprit c’est qu’on m’a dit que c’est dans une zone pas trop sécurisée, ce n’est pas un quartier « safe, » mais je pense pas que ce soit une raison suffisante car la compétition cette annee a été particulièrement intense et mes camarades ont tellement galéré pour un trouver un ou même décrocher un entretien… Et la j’ai eu ça sans aucun effort et même une mauvaise candidature faite à l’arrache…

Est-ce le fait d’être pris pour un stage dans ces conditions, ça peut être un redflag ou un signe que c’est un mauvais stage ? Je pense que je dois le prendre parce que je n’ai pas d’autres choix mais j’ai peur que tous les autres candidats l’ont refusé pour raison de sécurité, des missions horribles ou autre chose que je vais découvrir pendant le stage même 😭

Ive been here for a week and have felt pretty safe almost anywhere during the day and the places ive walked at night have felt fine too. When i got here my uber driver was complaining about safety and some people warned me to be extra careful here but nothing has ever remotely happened. Although tbf ive mostly stayed close to the central areas. Theres always people around so i feel pretty ok walking around even around midnight but i dont want to be too naive as i haven’t really strayed too far from the main areas since i still dont know the city well at all. Are there any places or streets to avoid when it’s late? Im a woman and ive lived in big cities before so most of bordeaux honestly feels really safe to me no matter the time of day. But are there neighborhoods that would be best to stay away from if you’re alone at night?

Je suis un étudiant qui ai commencé un stage qui était censé durer 6 mois. Au début on a dû le « scinder » en deux conventions pour des raisons administratives, maintenant j’arrive presque là à la fin de la première moitié et j’hésite vraiment car je me rends compte que ça me plaisait pas du tout.

Je veux partir mais j’ai peur que ça soit hyper mal pris par mon tuteur et mon établissement ainsi que par l’organisme d’accueil et les responsables. Et je ne sais pas ce que je risquerais (dans tous les sens) si je quittes.

C’est techniquement un seul stage reparti en deux, avec le même lieu, le même travail, etc, juste des conventions différentes pour faciliter l’administratif. Donc si je pars avant le signature et le début du nouveau contrat/nouvelle convention, quelles conséquences vais je entraîner ? Est ce que ce serait très grave si je pars directement après la fin de la première convention ? Faut-il leur expliquer si je pars avant que je signe le deuxième contrat ?

My mother is extremely enmeshed and acts like a literal toddler. She expects us to take care of her and seems to not be able to regulate her emotions or self actualize outside of her immediate family members.

She has always acted immature but now as she gets older she seems to be more and more babyish and attention seeking. For example she fights with my dad a lot. She will get upset and whine in a high pitched voice and stomp her feet if something doesn’t go her way, then will huff and puff and storm off until someone acknowledges how upset she is. If they don’t then she will lock herself in her room and whine and sometimes call a distant relative on the phone and yell about how horrible all her family members are and go into detail loudly.

Sometimes she won’t make herself food and will just whine “mommy hungwyyyy” and wait for someone to serve her (usually nobody even reacts bc they don’t even know who she’s talking to). She refers to herself often as “mommy” which is weird bc her kids are all grown and very far past the point of calling her that. She was the youngest sibling in her family growing up and was always called the princess and now still refers to herself sometimes.

I don’t live at home anymore but do have to go to their house once or twice a month and witness this and it genuinely is horrible to watch. Honestly I feel really bad and I think the enmeshment also makes me feel guilty and like it’s somehow my responsibility to fix it. Other than going NC, how do you deal with an enmeshed parent who acts this childish and attention seeking?
