Badalassi jacket owners

How do you deal with the noise?

I can't stand it. I used to have a badalassi halfbelt deluxe from Aero Leather, I resold it after 2 weeks.

I feel like Mr Krabs in that SpongeBob squeaky boots episode. Every move, every step, every breath I take there's this damned squeak.

I want to love Badalassi leather. I find it absolutely beautiful and comfortable to wear. It is to me as beautiful as RC's Shinki HH or Horween's CXL. I want to wear it, especially this newly released absolutely gorgeous black SLH Varenne.

But damnit the noise.

Experienced Badalassi owners, how is your jacket today? Does it eventually quiet down? Or is it still squeaking like hell after 5 years of wear?

Would having it "tumbled" (like Aero's tumbled CXL they used to offer as an option) make it quieter? Conditioning + Tumbling?

Today was a nice evening, but it still finished with a bitter note

So I (m29) have been in a difficult relationship for the past two and a half years. Lost close friends and myself along the way. A lot of love bombing from my partner, most certainly unintentional, and her BPD drama to deal with. I miss my best friend, whom I've hurt by disappearing when my partner became difficult and my reflex was to shut down.

It has been 1 week since my partner and I are now living apart, as to give myself some space and time for myself. I invited my friends from middle school over, some of my closest friends who are still around. The night is good, we drink, we chat, we banter, we smoke. They also talk about an event, happening tomorrow. A brunch, for one of my friend's girlfriend's birthday to which I'm not in the loop/invited.

I was expecting this, considering I lost contact with her following the issues my partner had with my friends (including her). I was expecting this, but it still stings. It stings because it reminds me of how much I forgot about myself, my friendships, and how much I've lost along the way. This past week alone made me feel good, but also so empty. I miss my friends. I miss the life I had two years ago. Heck, I miss my partner. I miss my old cheerful self. I can't stop blaming myself for clamming up at the sight of conflict. I've been seeing a therapist to help me deal with all of this. It helps, but it's still so hard.

The Flat Head before rebirth

This one is a beautiful catch and release that I somewhat regret:

A single rider from before TFH's 2019 bankruptcy and subsequent rebirth.

Thickest veg tan teacore horsehide from Shinki Hikaku I've ever handled.

I just wasn't cool enough for the laces, so I sold it.

Rainbow Country Hercules

The grail, the ever sought after Rainbow Country Hercules in their signature Shinki Hikaku horsehide.

I was wary of the hype before getting my hands on it years ago, buuut... It is truly as excellent as the Internet makes it out to be.

Sugar Cane Indian Motorcycle horsehide

My first and only cross-zip "double rider". Made in Japan, thick (and I mean thicc) horsehide, about as thick as my 4oz Lost Worlds.

And I gotta say, Sugar Cane does not disappoint, especially their Indian Motorcycle line.

Finished binging Mr. Robot

And it's a masterpiece. I'd put it way up there with my favorites Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Dark. Now I don't know what to watch except wait for Severance S3.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Forgot to mention The Americans up there with my favs, and Netflix's Daredevil (not too fan of Born Again S1&2 though)

I feel trapped and defeated

Hi,

I usually don't share a lot. I'm usually fairly avoidant and don't like to share my feelings, especially with strangers, but I've read a lot on this subreddit and decided to give it a shot.

It's been 3 years now since the start of my relationship with my gf. And it's been 3 years now I've gradually lost friends, and feeling more and more isolated.

I've had a female best friend. We were like two peas in a pod, did everything together, including sharing a bed platonically.

Came along my girlfriend, and things started to go south. She's impulsive, confrontational, lacks self esteem but also cheerful, engaging at times. My best friend started to feel less and less seen despite my attempts to bring the two together during events (hikes, parties). Usually they'd greet, then my best friend would just go off to chat and socialize with other friends, without much effort to get to know my girlfriend. I'll skip the details, but things go this way for months.
Then came my 26th birthday. Best friend organized a thing at a bar, invited everyone but my girlfriend until "the last moment" (3-4 days prior, others knew for weeks, and she didn't include her herself, she "sent friends" to do so). Now I know my best friend. She's capable of finding some random asshole's ig she met at a nightclub with little to no effort. She said she didn't have her contacts to bring my girlfriend into the group/organization.

Then came the accusations. My girlfriend, feeling insecure and having herself trust issues and a difficult past, started accusing my best friend of having feelings for me. Taken aback and being avoidant, I kept denying but also didn't do much a fix this. I started seeing my best friend less and less, and this impacted our friends' group dynamics. Again, skipping details, but because of this I always felt like walking on eggshells, whenever I brought my friends up to my girlfriend, or whenever I went to meet my friends and talked about my girlfriend. On top of that, my best friend would absolutely worry about my situation, and would discuss about it with all of our friends. Some would even come up to ask me if I was alright, if my girlfriend even paid rent with me or didn't take advantage of me.

Some friends got engaged. They decided to exclude my girlfriend from the party, to invite my best friend. Understandably, my girlfriend got absolutely upset and forbade me from seeing my best friend. We were already on a rocky terrain my best friend and I, but now this event really put the final nail in the coffin. It's been 1 year now since the engagement party. And I feel miserable. To everyone, I am with a controlling girlfriend who is rotting away my relationships, and who I only answer to. To my girlfriend, my friends did not make much effort to include her, and no one dared to call my best friend out.

Now I'm feeling stuck and empty. I've drifted away from some of my closest friends, due to them being also friends with my best friend. I've shared wonderful moments with my girlfriend, yet I cannot even comfortably invite friends over at home, especially those tied to the engagement party.

Last night, I told my girlfriend that I wanted to spend the 14th of July's evening with them (no best friend). We planned on cooking and eating/spending the evening together, but the group got the most people ok-ing this date. Not willing to feel left out even more, I wanted to go to this event. This is after spending 4 days with my girlfriend: going to a music festival with her and her friends, going to a spa/pool with her, going shopping with her. Now ever since last night and telling her about not spending one more evening with her to go see my friends, I'm getting the silent treatment. This isn't the first time. She'd often do this when upset. And I'm just feeling so alone right now.

Sorry most of this feels like rambling. I'm not very good at structuring my thoughts and recounting events over a Reddit post without writing much much more.

Corfu old school and specialty coffees

I went to the Greek island Corfu for 10 days. I am genuinely impressed by their coffees. There I discovered my now favorite iced coffee drink: the Freddo Espresso.

It's everywhere in Corfu, affordable and easy to make at home. It's creamy, airy, intense yet very refreshing.

They mainly serve italian roasts in smaller coastal villages with some specialty from U-Roast in bigger towns like Paleokastrisa.

But the real magic happens in Corfu town:

There reside small, local, very nerdy micro specialty roasters Hidden Gem and Cafetierra roasting in-house with a Bellwether and a Probat Probatone 12 respectively, and international brands like U-Roast where you can roast the beans yourself and Athenian roaster Coffeelab.

All make great espressos, amazing Freddo Espressos and I had my absolute favorite washed Ethiopian in a Freddo Espresso at Cafetierra.

I went to Corfu expecting Nescafé and uninteresting stale coffees, I left very impressed.

Paris Specialty cafés and a small rant

EDIT/REPOST: I took down the original post because I realized I'd forgotten to upload the censored picture showing the barista's face. My bad, that's a shit thing to do.

Visited Tanat - Victoria and Motors Coffee today. Great experience overall, and I didn't think I'd see so many EG-1s in such a short amount of time. Two of them surrounding a Slayer at Motors Coffee.

Tanat's Finca Milan double shot without milk blew me away. Green apple, sweet, tangy but still creamy and long lasting finish. Amazing. Motors' flat white was also great. And their cheesecake was awesome.

But I was disappointed in Tanat's Las Margaritas and Motors' Luna Gesha Hydrangea. I get it, they're fancy schmancy competition coffees.

Both were served on ESPRESSO machines, not filter, not siphon, not V60, not Aeropress. ESPRESSO.

A La Marzocco and a freaking Slayer. Yet both of them were about as thin as the hojicha I drink before bed, as seen in pic #6.

The barista used a €4k grinder and a €7k machine to essentially make me a filter coffee with an espresso machine.

I'm not talking about turbo shots here. I understand the logic behind why faster longer shots can work for lighter roasts. But this? Why even use an ESPRESSO machine at all? I know Turbo shot covers a huge range, some retain body and creaminess, some are basically pressurized filter at 1:6+. I've had the former (very light roast at 105 agtron, some creaminess, 1:3.5) and loved it. What I got was closer to the latter. To each their own, but using an espresso machine to land on something with zero body feels a bit like ski boots for a walk in the park or flip flops on a hike, just a mismatch between tool and result, whatever you call the technique.

"Oh but it's to preserve all the flavours of the €€€ beans!" Come on. Use a softer extraction method then, no need for a €10k+ setup, and don't sell the beans as an espresso.

At some point the emperor's new clothes become pretty hard to ignore, these shots are just filter coffee made with extra steps, and a €15 V60 does it better and more honestly than a €10k+ setup.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying they botched the recipe. They nailed it, by the looks of it.

If I'm ordering an espresso, I want it to retain at least some of the features that make it different from filter coffee. Otherwise what are we even doing here.

Maha coffee roaster, Dijon

Found this shop in Dijon.

Another small, very nice nerdy café. The owner roasts his own beans and brews them on an Ascaso Barista T (nice change from the usual La Marzocco).

He also uses a Kaffelogic to try new beans before roasting them.

Late 1930s WMF steam pressure espresso machine

Found this beauty at my friend's parents' place. A steam pressured series 300 espresso machine made by German brand WMF. Apparently it's from the 1930s, maybe 50s if it's from their latter units.

Rancilio Silvia GM pro & Mazzer Philos

It's been a long way since the De'Longhi Magnifica S.

150€ for a used Silvia V5, 300€ GM pro + scale, 840€ for a used Mazzer Philos.

3 days with the Gaggimate Pro and I'm in love. I don't see how it can get any better than this especially since I very rarely drink milk drinks, so the lack of dual boilers isn't a deal breaker for me.

That and the Mazzer Philos, currently with the I200D on, planning to swap for the I189D. Dialing in and pulling shots is a breeze, if I want thick and forgiving I use the Ikape convex 58 to 38mm + a sweet and syrupy profile adapted to the beans, and if I want all the flavors I use the IMS 20g BB nanotech precision basket and another profile.
