When was this made?

To be honest, I have no clue when it was made. I think it was my grandparent’s, so I would guess sometime from the 60’s-90’s, but it could be older it could have been their parents or something. I think it may be silver? On the bottom of the box there’s a big black square in the top left corner someone wrote “XB”, I’m not sure if that’s from someone in my family or from the factory or something, I have no clue. Also, the top forks and spoons seem to have some sort of rust or tarnish in them, but the rest of them are fine.

I have no clue how to start

Hi! My name’s Colin, I’m 15 and I’m from the Chicagoland area in Indiana. Since I was 13 I’ve wanted to get into reenactmenting, and have been a history lover my whole life. I would be most interested in doing a WW1 impression, specifically Austria-Hungary and the UK, but I’ve been told by people I’m too young, and I need more experience, is this true?

What is the ‘correct’ spelling of Allen/Alan/Allan?

I’m just curious because I’ve met tons of people with the name and all of them spelled it differently. I golfed with a boy who spelled it Allan, my grandpa’s best friend is Alan. I think that Al Jardine is Alan as well, but I’m not sure

Should I give my OC a pet rabbit

For some context, my OC is a teenager during the early 40’s (born 1927), and he’s quite quiet, get bullied in school, and is quite awkward socially. I was considering giving him a pet for a while, but I dont thinks dogs would be very popular in rural Normandy. So I watched some shows taking place in the area, and I found rabbits were common, and I thought it was a good idea. But, would that be a thing, kiss being emotionally attached to animals like rabbits?

My grandpa is giving me coins? Should I be as excited as I am?

He knows I’m into coin collecting and he said he has a lot of Pennie’s, nickels and dimes from when he was a paperboy (so like early-very late 60’s I would guess [at least that’s when he found them]), and I am unreasonably excited for two reasons

  1. They must be pretty good for him to have kept them for this long
  2. I love the design Mercury Dimes, but I’ve never actually seen one in person, and I’m excited by the possibility of him having a few of them.

Should I actually be excited about it?

Store owner gave to me for free

I asked the owner if he had anything by Buddy Holly or The Crickets, and he said he didn’t know. So he gave me three whole bins to look through just to find anything by Holly. I was being rushed by my parents so this is all I found by Holly (though I also picked up some MJ and Beatles stuff. So he gave me the Holly record for free for my troubles. I think it’s a Gloversville pressing because of the clover thing? And I’m sure it’s an OG pressing, but I don’t know. He was selling it for $2.00 anyways, which I think would have been a steal either way.

Any cleaning tips?

I just today bought two new singles, but both of them have writing on them and I would like to try to get it off. But is there a way to properly do it without causing any damage. Also, The Apple sleeve it came in is in horrible condition, should I replace it?

My footage from the show in Indy last year.

Me and my dad went and it was a blast! The footage isn’t the best and I don’t think it gives it justice (and my camera work isn’t very good) but it was great!

Should I even bother trying to work it?

I’m very new to vintage cameras, and I bought this one to take with me on vacation. Now, I’ve done some research and I see it’s missing film, the empty spool and the flash attachment. I would be willing to try to get it to work, but would it be worth the time?

I (M14) am worried I’m being a pervert and obsessive over my best friend (F14)

For some context me and this girl are kind of dating (possibly?) and I really like (she’s also my best friend), and I put this photo on my mirror in my room of us. It’s the only photo up there, though. I got told by a friend it’s weird because we’re not officially dating, and now I’m scared I’m being obsessive again (if you saw my previous before I took it down you know what I mean) Should I take it down? I don’t know, some people have told me it’s cute, and some others have told me it’s pervy or obsessive or weird.

A Bit of a hot take; Wait is the best song on Rubber Soul

I don’t even know if this is a hot take; I don’t know what is considered the best on the album, but I have not heard anyone say it’s their favorite on the album other than me, so I’m calling it one.

Is the Record Store in the Courthouse any good?

Since the Record Store next to Square Roots, I've done all my record shopping either on Discogs or elsewhere, and I haven't gone into the one in the Courthouse yet. To make sure I won't waste an afternoon, what is their selection like there? Do they have 45's?

Deciding on a name

So I am making an OC for my storyline on Linz during the 30’s and 40’s, and I have a few name ideas, but first I think I must describe the personality

Name; undecided
Gender; Male
Born; June 14th, 1923, Linz, Österreich
Hair color; Chesnut Brown, slightly wavy
Eye color; Blue-Grey
Build; thin
Personality; reserved, slow to warm up to people, a bit shy, afraid of adults, shouting, sudden loud noises, etc. has a few very good friends, other than that, nothing. Has tried to talk to girls in the past but has always failed miserably

So, here are the name ideas I’ve come up with so far, I’ve used records to try to make then as accurate as possible to the time;

  1. Johannes Peter
  2. Karl Wilhelm
  3. Herbert Anton (Herb?)
  4. George Daniel
  5. George Rudolf
  6. Walter Dietrich

If anyone else has any ideas, let me know! I'm very much open!

What is a “butcher journeyman”?

So Josef was born in 1888 in Pyzdry, Congress Poland
He went to Bremen, Germany in 1908 to immigrate to the United States
Under his immigration record from Germany, it said he was a “Butcher, Journeyman”
Obviously, I know what a butcher is, I wasn’t born yesterday, but the journeyman part? Is that a fancy way for the Germans to classify immigrants? Or is that a different job? I’m confused.

I (14M) did something so bad to my crush (14F) I think I can get in legal trouble for it

I will be completely honest; I engage in self pleasure way to often, I’m not sure if it’s healthy, and I’ve been trying to stop (or at the very least limit) myself from doing such actions. Sure I don’t have or watch any actual…videos, shall I say, but, and I know this is very weird and very morally wrong, I recorded my crush while they were in a bathing suit and I did…things to that video. I feel horrible, and I don’t know what to do. I have cried a lot once this situation, I don’t even know why such a terrible idea crossed my mind in the first place. And now, I’ve done something so stupid, that not only do I deserve to go to jail but I’m scared I might actually go there. Normally, I would ask for people not to be harsh, but at this point, I think I deserve it for everything which I’ve done.

My Grandma’s parents (John and Hermine) on their wedding day, September 17th, 1947

I think there may be another copy out there somewhere? It was labeled #7 on the back (which is a bit odd considering it was the original copy at my grandma’s house)
