I don't remember the most impactful moment

When I was 8 or 9, a judge took me into a room and asked me who I would rather live with and why.

Apparently I said my mom and she got custody.

Context: my dad had tried to keep me longer than set visitation by claiming I was sick with the flu and she had to come with police friend to get me.

I have no memory at all of the judge or what I said. I do recall when my dad kept me and he had to give me back. I do recall both sides rehearsing with me what I should say to the judge.

Shouldn't I remember such an important event in my life? I am now 37.

What happens if one doesn't regain the will to live?

Say someone checks in to a hospital for thoughts of self harm or self annihilation, what happens if they keep telling the doctors they want to auto-delete themselves?

Would they just stay checked into some kind of hospital?

How did you move your heart age?

I have a heart age that is 12 years older than my actual age due to arterial stiffness. I started out with "Much Older" in Jan of this year.

Doing HIIT is the main thing that's moved it to be more positive.

Anything else I can add? I'm not overweight and I only have one shot of espresso at 7/7:30 am, 110/70 bp and almost no alcohol (a small sip of wine every couple of weeks).

What worked for you? Thanks!

Meeting between donor and child

We had two children with the help of the same egg donor and our child can choose to contact her when she's 18.

If you were on either end of this interaction, how did it go? Was it something you regretted doing? Was there an instant connection that made you happy?

What happens if I declare I'm carrying cash?

If I take $15000 and bring them into the US and declare them, what will happen? Why do people not want to declare cash/valuables if they're not criminals?

So angry at being a child of Chernobyl

My father was in Kiiv when it happened (I was born in 1989) and was not told to evacuate or to not drink/eat the contaminated food. They were huddled in their homes not knowing what was happening for days.

As a result, I have been robbed of my ability to have biological children and have several other health issues. My half sister on my dad's side also has health issues.

This could have been avoided if there was quick and decisive evacuation of the area, but no they tried to lie. I even watched the video of the man in charge of the plant at the time (he survived, the stubborn jerk, into his 80s!) and he insisted he wasn't to blame at all.

But so many lives were harmed, by the narcissistic people in charge at the time.

Whew thanks for reading.

How to navigate a thorny travel issue?

I went to an exhibit on Austwitz a bit ago and had a panic attack halfway through. My great great grandmother died in the Siege of Leningrad.

I want to go on a tour (cruise) where I like every single item on the itenarary except I know I can't handle being there in person. It was just too horrific even on illustrations and videos.

Should I just not book any tour that includes that as a destination? Would it be possible to stay back and not look disrespectful?

How do people know a bed has been slept in?

In books/movies it's sometimes mentioned "X's bed hadn't been slept in so they knew he hadn't been home"

But.... couldn't the person simply make their bed?

I am trying to quit

I am 36F and I have an issue with masturbating almost every day, at least 3 times a week.

I know it's a problem and I am trying to quit but it's such a good stress reliever in the late evening after the kids are in bed (3yo and 15 mo) and my husband is just too worn out and tired to do more than watch a show together.

Please help me find some strategies to stop. I usually read a romance novel to get me going, but that's just as bad as images I'm sure.

The Simple Life

I'd like to see a William/Katherine or William/Charles mashup, let's leave the kids out of it.

Have them clean, do basic cooking, construction etc to raise money for charity.

I would also like to have a cutoff at William for the monarchy so that when he passes/resigns the monarchy is no more.

Should I stay away from everything?

I have never smoked, never had anything stronger than alcohol.

I tried a THC gummy (1/4) and at first it didn't do anything and I was underwhelmed but THEN it was like I was having a panic attack. I was SO anxious and it was 8pm, I felt like I was going to die, so I just went to bed and felt better in the morning.

What did I do wrong? Is it not supposed to be enjoyable?

Is the twin connection real?

My husband had twin cousins, one of whom passed.

I obviously didn't ask the other twin but I wondered, as a twin did you really feel the highs/lows of your twin when you weren't together in one space?

Does anyone actually like holodets?

As a Russian who moved to the US in 1999 at 9 years old, just looking it makes me feel unwell... something about the texture and the taste of meat in jello...even when I lived in Russia I never understood it.

Do people just pretend to like it? It's next to liver on my list of least favorite dishes.

When I got yelled for asking not to be.

When I was 13 or 14 my mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I was getting yelled at daily for the most innocuous things like my tone or sighing or looking unhappy, "being difficult".

I asked for a day of not getting berated, not getting yelled at, just peace to be myself, fully and unapologetically, as long as I didn't cause any harm to myself, others, or any property.

A horrific tirade followed where I was told I was making my mom seem like a monster (she and I were the only ones there) and that she at least supported me and got me an education, food and a house to live in and she could do much worse things than yell at me.

While I agree that many things are indeed worse than getting yelled at, it is so terrible (esp as a child) to have a parent who flies off the handle unexpectedly at least once a week, and you never know what will set them off. I felt so drained after our arguments. I still will shut down if anyone raises their voice in anger at me.

I hope parents understand than neglect and physical violence is not the only way a child can be harmed. A child needs love, stability, and warmth. Yelling actually rarely solves anything.

How can I chase this further?

I grew up in St Petersburg Russia (born 1989) and moved to the US (1999)

In 1971 my grandfather traveled and worked in the US for a year, as a PhD researcher. He said he was at MIT but it seems, reading through his patents and published papers, along with the music records he brought back, that he was at Oak Ridge, TN.

In order to get his records, I need to provide a death certificate, which means when I go to visit my grandma in Russia next time I would have to spend several days in bureaucracy hell.

Is there any way to get records without this step? Should I give up? Thank you!
